Out of all of the exclusives available at C2E2, how did you/Danielle know to get in line for this one and buy 15/75 copies?
She bought a lot of exclusives at C2E2. She bought 15 copies of the Clayton Crain 301 homage too. UF4 is just the one everyone is talking about. If I had been there and had heard a vendor was dropping a UF4 Clayton Crain cover that might've been where I'd started also.

I like Adam and while I don't know Danielle real well (only met her once back in probably like 2018 at one of the Chicago shows) and she struck me a a very nice person, but it is weird she would delete it. My guess is that a lot of people that bought them did NOT know it was just a facsimile with another homemade cover stapled on. Now you are in the situation where you have 10-15 copies of essentially a bootleg comic you are sitting on.
My advice would be to:
1) Recycle them and take a stand against bootleg comics; or
2) Sell them at sticker price to the people who wanted them (or at a slight premium) and donate the proceeds to a charity.
Being associated with something like this in a tight knit community like ours isn't a good idea. I'm no influencer dealer or whatever, but I wouldn't want my name any where near this whole thing.
When she made that post the plan was always to archive it after several days. The main reason behind the post was to apologize to anyone at C2E2 who didn't get a copy. The idea was to leave the post up long enough to give people enough time to read/react and we also attempted/failed to correct some of the misinformation floating around on social media.
When Danielle left the booth it looked like there were more than enough copies left for everyone in line. When she got home and we started reading that some people in line didn't get one she felt really bad and we felt the right thing to do was apologize since she left the booth with a bunch of copies. On the plus side, that post allowed us to connect with more people that we were able to give copies to that didn't get one at the show. I know the boards have largely moved on from there but that's why the post went up/came down and that's what we felt we owed an apology to people for.
Of the 15 copies Danielle bought to sell, she's given some away for free and some at her purchase price to people that couldn't get one at the show. The rest were auctioned and there is one left that she's giving away for her birthday.
As far as the book being bootlegged/unauthorized, we are reading about that in real time same as everybody else. I would like to give everyone involved the full benefit of the doubt and wait to hear from all parties before commenting about the situation with Marvel. I will say Danielle has been receiving plenty of DMs on social media from people who think we are sitting on a stack of these looking for the "unauthorized" UF4 in the last 24-48 hours, I think at this point the controversy is making more people want the book not less.
With that said, between Filter Comics / NerdyGirlComics we have been selling for more than 20 years. We have always accepted returns on books we sell going back to the very beginning and this book is no exception. If anyone in light of new information no longer wants this book or decides in the future they no longer want this book of course it can be returned at any time for a full refund. If one or more people actually do decide they want to return the book, I really like your idea of selling them at sticker price and donating to charity. The charities we've donated to most recently are Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women USA, The Gary Sinise Foundation, and Honor Animal Rescue, so probably one of those. Really appreciate that suggestion!

Very cool story with lots of interesting details.
I especially like the parts where the book was lost....and then it was found.
You could grate cheese on my goosebumps right now.
Haha sorry I probably could have shared more details in the update but wasn't sure I should bump the thread. The book was involved in a trade at the show. The book wasn't taken, I made a mistake and then jumped the gun too quickly with this thread

And despite overall trends, there are pockets in each Age that outperform. But someone (ehem ) pooh-poohed Marvel SA super-hero keys as longer-term investments based on a relative-scarcity argument. The argument might be intuitively appealing (if you ignore the demand side of things), so I thought it would be worth exploring.
All the ages have their gems, some less common than others. The top GA keys tended to have higher FMVs than the top Marvel SA keys (and that is unlikely to change any time soon!). But since we need to distinguish FMV from the appreciation that FMV has undergone, let's look at the appreciation of the top 12 GA keys (as ranked by Overstreet 2019-2020) relative to their top 12 SA Marvel keys from about 2016 to 2022.
I didn't want to copy/paste the whole thing but this was a great post! I prefer GA over SA all day every day because they are so scarce and the covers are so much better, but on average in my experience they have underperformed silver age keys for years now. Maybe because they don't trade hands as often giving less opportunities for prices to go up from the previous sale? Or maybe because they started from a point where they were already more expensive?

AND they managed to crowdfund their trip to SDCC. So despite routinely buying and selling five- and six-figure books, they’re pocketing thousands more from “fans.” Wild.
Danielle/Sammy decided to try something new at this show. They worked out sponsorships with other businesses, most who won't be at SDCC. They had shirts made up and will be wearing the companies' logos all week in SDCC, will be advertising them on IG & Whatnot, promoting their businesses in San Diego & in some cases selling their products at Comic Con. Similar to dealers who pay to advertise their banners/logos on the front page of this site, except in most cases Danielle and Sammy took payment in the form of books.
They are being sponsored by companies. Nothing was "pocketed from fans". That is just "wild" speculation on your part.

Dylan, I thought I heard you were taking a break from comics and were pursuing a new career as a love guru…. Is that not going well?
We are however heavily manipulating the market on Blackhawk 267 because why not ……. 🤷🏼♀️🙄

Thanks everyone! We will be filing a police report this afternoon. A little bit of good news I spoke to Paypal again and my case with them might not be as bleak as I thought it sounded yesterday. It sounds like there is a decent chance they may protect us after all. But we won't know for sure for somewhere between 20 and 90 days from now
Hopefully the book turns up somewhere or the police will be helpful. I'll post updates if I get any.
I appreciate all the kind words and eyes out for this book!

Wow. I'm truly sorry to hear that and will keep a look out.
Im unfamiliar with this side of the hobby...with Paypal, shouldn't he have to return the book to get the refund since you can prove it was delivered to him?
Unfortunately he didn't file an item not received claim, he filed an unauthorized purchase charge through his credit card, which I guess has a different set of rules. I still plan to appeal through Paypal but am not extremely hopeful on that front.

On February 25th, we had someone purchase this Batman 121 CGC 7.5 from us, which we shipped Fedex overnight, he acknowledged receiving it and said "it looks great, thanks", and then recently filed an unauthorized credit card chargeback through Paypal without returning the book.
He apparently goes by the names Jeffrey Ledbetter, Ben Shroy, and George Panek. The address he gave us is in Little Rock, Arkansas, but his phone number came up with a Kansas area code.
If someone with anyone of these names tries to buy a book from you please be careful, and if anyone sees this book show up anywhere or lives in Little Rock or KS and has a good relationship with the local comic stores (or local police) please let me know.
Thanks in advance for any help!
