  1. P*nis jokes regarding the last one are well within bounds
  2. A series of images for #2. I'm not quite sure where I grabbed this first one. For some reason I don't think any connection was made to these other two which I'd noticed as a swipe. From Harry Clark's Faust:
  3. I'll buy it. I had 2 and 3 as pegged as the same artist, and 5 and 6 have Tilburne qualities (and happen to be my favorite in the entire run). I'm less sold on 4, though it's right in the middle of this run, so that would tend to point towards him, too. Here's a cool one (and different) I saw when checking his style. Scan from my buddy Steve (pulp and magazine Steve, not paperback Steve )
  4. I'm not sure who it is, OE, but I think he did at least a couple in the series. I can say with 100% certainty, though, NOT BOK.
  5. I saw some nuts results for standout DFW covers last year for sure. That one definitely stands out Your copy's really got nice color, too, in the way yellow can get deep when it's not too grubby. I've got one of the Judson Phillips Park Avenue Hunt Club issues, but the cover isn't *quite* as exciting
  6. Received a well-packed box of paperbacks tonight from Jimbo. He was professional every step of the way, and the books look even nicer in hand than in the sales pictures. Thanks, Jim!
  7. Heh, I do like the snark in the third but doubt it's making any top 10s. Cool design on all three, but the #1 is my fave.
  8. Old Chinese proverb: "A man who wears white shoes has no fear of stepping in dog sh*t"
  9. Love pulp? Heaven knows I don't want to set any delicate personalities on edge by bandying the term around, but I'd say so Not actually in my physical collection, but a fellow scanner picked this up for me and sent me the raw scans to skirt the international shipping costs, as I like the cover (artist unknown). Twice a month schedule, the Miracle Library from Fleetway looks to be a mix of romance and crime or suspense: https://archive.org/details/miracle-library-0241-ill-share-your-danger-1959.-fleetway-d-d
  10. A scarcer Broadway title, also Fanny Hill!
  11. I'm in. I'm pretty sure I have a number of different faves than some that got mentioned.
  12. I'm a copy cat, had to have this one. Any chance of an ID @Surfing Alien?
  13. I'm in trouble now. I like these digests even more than paperbacks.
  14. I like it. The faces in the woods are especially weird Cole.
  15. Kinda surprised at the booty detail going on in the second one
  16. Writing at a typewriter in the kitchen all day? Not a place I can write. Cool article. Then the bonus of the staunch ownership of the word "pulp" in the comments by a pulp magazine fan, always good for a chuckle.
  17. This bottom one is a straight classic, Hepcat. You should share it here: Got 53 pages of thread on men's adventure magazines/sweats. Sort of exiled from the pulps in their own little area, LMAO. I'd also point out regarding pulps the fact there's a very active area for the pulp magazines on the boards, from what I can tell as busy or busier than most other areas (lots of paperback talk going on there as well). Many discussions in the past year regarding CGC grading practices as pertains to pulps specifically as well general market talk and reactions to any given spotlight auction...
  18. See, this is fantastic to me She's cute and you can see the swish in her walk, and maybe that blouse is down a button too far, but I don't consider it trashy. The boys are gawking and admirin and smiling but just being boys, not leering. Even grandma on the stairs ain't judging. It's a subversion of sleaze and JD hysteria (just like a lot of JD fiction I've read which seems to have its heart in the right place, at least most of the time).
  19. I still enjoy my records (and I've picked up the collections of my parents and many others as they got rid of their phonographs). My favorite thing about them is the size of the art and the intentionality (spellcheck didn't like that but I feel like it's a word) of having to pick out a specific record and then play a side. I've gotten to the point where I just have no space in the large shelf I built for them all, so I'm picking some out to sell to make room for more. Mostly letting go punk/indy stuff from the 80s and 90s, but I could very easily pick a little of the rock I've inherited from the folks to go, too. I guess one of my favorite things about records is actually the price. Four bucks for a used album I've never heard is fantastic. 20 bucks for a used one not so much. 60 bucks for a new jazz pressing? Hell no, I'm grabbin a pirate FLAC from a fellow audiophile Flea market prices this weekend were totally reasonable, record store prices not so much. It's cool the kids are digging the vinyl, but I guess I'm a greedy and want them all cheap and for myself As for the quality of the sound. I agree with the warmth, and even don't mind the skips and crackle (I wasn't always the best to my records, they are victims of beer spills and bongwater ). Whether the sound is *actually* better is a debate I've had with friends who are audio engineers that cry myth. Dunno. Lots of cool things about digital files, especially the fact that all the music from that actual F8CKTON of records in my collection fits in a little chip on my phone. Speaking of tube amps, my club rig was an old Sovtek. I only remember it being LOUD not warm . I've got a little Squier amp now and was pretty much weaned off of monster gear and much in the way of gadgetry when I moved into jazz since most of the players like a pretty simple acoustic profile. I've been thinking of getting something a little fancier but need to invest a little more time in my chops before I invest in a new rig Last weekends flea market grabs, since I'm gabbin' Really dug the Manassas albums when I listened recently, each seemed to have a different sort of flavor or theme. Sit with a bunch of older comic scanners (boomers) on a Discord, and they are stuck in this particular era, but I don't fault em. I listen to music both newer and older than most of them do. They have little respect for muh new wave/punk roots but whatevs: I got this one in part because it was so shiny. I'm not much of a condition hound (with record sleeves especially just slightly moreso with the platter), but this grabbed me. This is some cheese, so sue me: These last two are probably in my main listening area:
  20. I mean, I get it with a lot of pulps. They're fragile but gorgeous. If you have a weird menace pulp starting to fall apart, putting it in a safe box seems like a good idea. But common lower grade books, especially from the later years are great for reading. You can still grab a stack of 2 dollar pulp westerns and find hours of enjoyment. (or wander over to the Internet Archive and search about any title and do the same minus the pulp flakes and aroma). I love the smell - my wife, not so much
