The hallmarks of a great archive are mat paper and more muted colors than we see on a lot of efforts. For example, look at the mat paper section of the Shazam Archives vol. 1 wherein they reprint the Flash ashcan on cream mat paper. It's a thing of beauty. The Barks library is superior to almost all Archives because they print it on mat paper and use flat, somewhat more muted, color to simulate reading on newsprint. The Nelvana and Jonny Canuck archives have both beautiful color and B&W reproduction on mat paper.
Yet, many archives are printed on overly slick and white paper with garish coloring ala the Marvel Masterworks. Or archives where they use modern coloring techniques which look unnatural for material that was printed using flat color.
There are some examples of high quality scans, but most scanned material is total over yellow dreck (looking at you PS Artbooks).
The strips have made out much better with LOAC's Terry and Fantagraphics' Prince Valiant and Peanuts setting the standards.
Plenty of other very worthwhile reprint material.
We are in the Golden Age of classic reprints.
My big next up is the Sky Masters of the Space Force Complete Sundays coming out via Zoop.

Sometimes I like to show some of the books and magazines I buy to my wife.  Sometimes because they are good.  Other times to get an opinion.  Maybe just to get a rise out of her.
I think I'll skip facing the eyeroll on this one I think it's kind of romantic...
Depravity - Francis Carco (1957.Berkley Books G-81) cover

A *bit* different quality of yellow than the auction photo All good, though, cheap, and I knew there was creasing and the like. A soiled mattress, a soiled copy, heh heh
Artist unknown.  A translation (first translation?) of Francis Carco's 1917 Les Innocents.  Carco had an affair with the writer Katherine Mansfield (friends with D.H. Lawrence and Virginia Woolfe) shortly before he wrote the book.  Carco is still liked by the French, and Ford Madox Ford calls this novel "a second Madame Bovary." We'll see about that (I actually love that book and as soon as I post this will probably go look for sleazy paperback editions).

    You're very welcome.
I stuck a full scan (minus the missing TOC page, unfortunate) up at the IA last night:
    https://archive.org/details/flying-stories-v-02n-01-1929-05.-mac-fadden-missing-pgs-1-2-darwin-dpp
I'm not gonna put it on the IA, but here's the full raw dummy copy, too.  The office notes are neat, and you get to learn pseudonyms on the writers.  Looking back through it when I was assigning art credits in the contents I noticed none of the dummy material seemed to note artists or art pay in any ways, I guess that was all left to the art department:
    https://www.mediafire.com/file_premium/8ixdpbcymq24p2h/Flying_Stories_v02n01_%281929-05.MacFadden%29_%28office_dummy_-_natural_edit%29_%28DPP%29.cbr/file
The scan was from 2012, leisurely getting em all up at the Internet Archive.  If I were to change anything I'd probably make the pulp pages lighter. (and might have kept them dark at the time to contrast with the slick paper of the alternating sections).

I'm reading The Codex now, a little diddy about a billionaire who buries himself with his fortune so his 3 spoiled and entitled sons will have to find his tomb and rob it to get their inheritance. I'm reading the actual 1st Edition copy, and I feel a little dirty, but I'm doing it anyway. I also grabbed a copy of this 1st Edition vintage classic, alleged by many to be the source of the X-Men. GOD BLESS ...

First 2 are true unread and unblemished copies(I might have been the first to open them). I am not sure what the last one is a mix between digest and paperback. A diback?:
