  1. Archie #52 - 2.0 - $44 $34 shipped This is a solid, low grade copy of Archie #52 with a great Veronica and Betty cover. Besides what you can see in the scan, the book has a couple deep bends throughout. The centerfold is also detached. There's a small spline split at bottom, and the cover is (mostly?) detached at bottom staple only. Great colors, presents really nicely, and some classic stories inside! I wouldn't be selling if I hadn't just gotten an upgrade.
  2. My Romance #3 - 2.0 - $44 $39 $34 shipped Here's a Timely classic! As you can see, someone decided to doodle while sending a telegraph or something, and drew a pattern in pencil all over the logo. Additionally, on the right edge of the fc, there's a tear above the word balloon. The spine has about a 1 1/4" split in between the staples. Both staples are attached - book is complete, centerfold attached - but the bottom staple is just hanging on. Pages inside are dirty, and there's a faint bend through the whole book, which you can see in the third image. Besides a ton of fantastic Timely art, this issue also has a fantastic letter from the editor - presumably Stan Lee - refuting the assertions of some crackpot named Dr. Wertham. This is back in 1949, mind you! A great bit of comic history. Plus, I just love that short-lived "Marvel Comic" circle logo. Not sure if the pencilled letter G in the upper right corner has any significance?
  3. Katy Keene Pin-Up Parade #10 - 3.5 - $29 $20 shipped This one is rock solid, and complete with all paper dolls and whatnot It has some nice gloss and other than a crunched bottom left corner and some fairly minor creasing in the upper right corner ,it's in really nice shape. Oh yeah, and some freakazoid went completely nuts with the distributor spray and hosed this thing down front and back. But it's very solid, with a nice interior, and the central cover image is mostly clean.
  4. Summer Love #47 - 2.5 - $31 $26 shipped Summer Love #48 - 3.5 - $18 $15 shipped or take the pair for $45 $37 shipped First, Summer Love #47. This is a double size issue with a Beatles cover. "The Beatles saved my romance!" General wear and tear, plus someone helpfully wrote the 25 cent price in marker in the middle of the cover, but luckily, it's pretty faint: And then, Summer Love #48, with the infamous bare-chested swinger yanking on a girl's pony tail. This one has a couple faint scratches that run from the text box diagonally down to the woman's chest which are hard to see in the scan:
  5. My Love #1 - 6.0/6.5 - $90 $75 shipped! I bought this as a 7.0, but I'm more comfortable calling it a 6.0/6.5 Issues: it has some minor, color breaking finger bends along the top front cover. There are also some color breaking striations along the right edge of the fc. Additionally, there are a couple non color breaking dings, and one longer ncb bend on the fc which I have included a photo of. On the back cover, there's a finger bend in the middle of the left edge, and some mung on the top left corner. Overall, a really nice looking, solid copy with some great color.
  6. Well, everyone else is doing it, so I figured, why not. Compared to the other romance threads going on, mine will be small and pathetic. But maybe you'll still find something cool to buy? Here are some rules: 1. in thread trumps PM conversations. 2. In the case of multiple PMs, or take its, I will go by time stamp. 3. no HoS/probation people please. I'm Crimebuster, not Crimeenabler 4. U.S. buyers only, my sincere apologies to our fine Canadian friends and all our buddies overseas 5. Paypal only! Thanks. 6. please pay promptly, I have a crimefighting monkey sidekick to feed 7. If there's any kind of issue with the books, let me know within one week of receiving it and we can figure out some kind of return. But I don't anticipate any issues! 8. I usually ship via USPS, but for something this size it's possible I may use UPS depending on location and how the price shakes out. Either way, you'll get a tracking number and whatnot as soon as it is sent.
  7. I know exactly the PSA you're talking about. I used to have a scan of it, because when I saw it for the first time it, that goofy drawing of Timmy's was so hilarious I had to share it with people. Unfortunately, it seems photobucket ate my scan, but I will also try to find a copy of it tonight if I have the time.
  8. Thanks for the answers, I appreciate it. I don't have the book yet, otherwise I would post pictures. Trying to decide whether to buy a book that presents very nicely but has some moisture ripples. Thanks!
  9. I've never had anything pressed, so I am an ignorant babe in the woods. Just a simple question. Will pressing fix moisture ripples? I know it won't affect moisture staining, but with a book that has rippling but no staining, will pressing smooth that out? Thanks!
  10. It's valuable because for some fans, comic book reality trumps actual reality. OAAW #168 features a story where Sgt. Rock interacts a handful of times with a mysterious figure who saves the day without ever revealing his appearance or identity. Rock calls him the Unknown Soldier. The story is a cool tribute to the idea of the unknown soldier. Four years later, DC introduced the character Unknown Soldier in Star-Spangled War Stories #151. This character also didn't reveal his true face, which was covered by bandages. So, in SSWS #157, they reprinted OAAW #168 with a new frame story featuring Sgt. Rock, retconning that earlier story as being an appearance of the character Unknown Soldier. It worked really seamlessly, but it's still a retcon, period. Still, thanks to the mind-warping powers of "continuity," some people consider OAAW #168 to be the first appearance of the Unknown Soldier. It's not. But there's the answer! The price of OAAW #168 is more expensive than the issues around it because it's a 1966 appearance of a character who wasn't created until 1970.
  11. Am I missing something here? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Girls-Romances-Silver-Age-Romance-Comics-Lot-Of-8-55-66-57-86-59-58-56-63-/352587045845?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l44720.c10&nordt=true&rt=nc&orig_cvip=true This went for a lot more than I was expecting given the condition of these books. My first thought was there was some Lichtenstein connection I wasn't aware of, but I haven't turned up anything. The #63 does have a great cover, but... I dunno, this seems high. I feel like there's something I don't know about these books. Maybe I am just underestimating the market though. It does feel like there's a bit of a swell in demand right now for SA romance stuff. Thoughts?
  12. I've been having a lot of health issues recently, which has slowed me down some. But I am still plugging away - just finished the linework for page 24, and am beginning the linework for page 25 (out of 30). My goal at this point is to have all the linework done, as well as all the (first draft) dialogue and word balloons done, by the end of the month. I am still aiming to have the whole thing complete for a May 1st kickstarter launch, but we will see. Here's the latest blog entry: https://crimebustercomics.com/2019/02/14/asking-for-trouble-part-3/ And a panel in progress from page 19:
  13. Marvel also did a comic about the life of John Paul II. But if you really want to go down the rabbit hole of Catholic comics, you need to look at Treasure Chest of Fun and Fact. This was a comic that was produced specifically for sale within Catholic schools from around 1947 through the early 1970's. There's like 400+ issues, and it's a mix of kid's adventure stuff and Catholic themed content. A lot of bible stories, lives of saints, biopics of current popes and other church officials. Most of the issues are dirt cheap as few people collect them, but there's some good stuff in there, with art from DC and Marvel artists who were moonlighting for some extra bucks. There was also an ongoing anti-communist series within the title in the early 60's that commands some money.
  14. I am slowly collecting the Spire books as well, just picking them up in 50 cent or $1 bins. I have most of the Archie books at this point and maybe half of the others. Some seem to me to be more regional, which I guess makes sense - I have never yet seen a copy of either Johnny Cash or Tom Landry, which I'm guessing sold a lot more copies down south as opposed to up here in New England. While Hansi is the big one from the set, Johnny Cash I'd say is probably a solid second place. There are also some religious comics from the 70's the look just like Spire books, but aren't by Spire. The company was called Logos, and the books were done by Tony Tallarico. There are apparently four comics in that line: Prison to Praise, Run Baby Run, Ben Israel, and Amazing Saints. I believe I have the first two but not the last two.
  15. Final price drop to $1200. I am under water at this price, but for you guys, I'm willing to cut a deal, including trade offers. Just don't make me go to ebay. Please, don't let the bad people get me!
  16. Hello! I had this run for sale a year ago but ended up holding onto it. Now, however, I am overrun by romance and Archie comics that need a home, so something needs to go to clear space. Sorry, Thor!! Thor #104-502! Plus Annuals #1-19 and a pile of guest appearances, crossovers, and more! $1400 $1300 $1200 shipped!! Additionally, if you live within a 2 hour drive from Boston, I will knock $100 off the price and deliver the books in person. I will also consider trades, or deals with part cash and part trade. Only selling this as a lot, not breaking it up for individual issues. This is complete run of Thor vol. 1 from the first issue with the Thor logo - #104 - through the end of the series at #502, which is 399 consecutive issues. Plus, all 19 Thor annuals, and a big pile of crossover appearances, like Daredevil #30 and Iron Man #65. And more! The early Journey into Mystery issues are low grade readers. The grades edge up into mid-grades by around #140ish, and there are higher grade books mixed in, particularly once it gets to the Bronze Age after #200. I think at this price I might actually be underwater on these, but unfortunately I just don't have room right now to store them, so I am really hoping I can find a good home for these amazing comics. Jack Kirby's run on Thor is one of the most amazing works in comics, and anyone who loves the Fourth World at DC should really have this run in their collection, as his run ends with Ragnarok - the end of the Old Gods - directly leading into the rebirth in New Gods #1. The concepts for New Gods were originally ideas for a Thor reboot! Plus, there's all sorts of great stories after as well, like Roy Thomas's massive Ragnarok/Celestials/Eternals storyline that runs from around #280-300, Walt Simonson's legendary run from #337-383, and the replacement Thor arc from #432-460. A couple specific issue notes- #105 is a rag. It's complete, but probably a .5, just a placeholder that I never got around to upgrading. And #131 is missing a pretty large piece of the front cover. A couple issues are signed, including #337. Besides JiM/Thor #104-502 and Annuals #1-19, this lot includes the following: Daredevil #30 Fantasy Masterpieces #4 (reprints Silver Surfer #4) Sub-Mariner #59 Iron Man #66 Marvel Team-Up #26, 70, 115, 148 Marvel Two-in-One #9, 22, 23 Marvel Spotlight #30 (Warriors Three) Captain Marvel #57 Invaders #32, 33 Power Pack #19 Balder the Brave #1-4 What If? #10, 47, vol. 2 #12 Sif #1 (one shot) Here are some scans of key issues! Please PM me with any questions. #112 - 1st Thor vs. Hulk! 1.0 - The spine is split from the midpoint to the bottom. Presents beautifully for the grade. #114 - 1st Absorbing Man! 3.5 #118 - 1st Destroyer! 4.5 #119 - 1st Warriors Three! 4.5 Annual #1 - 1st Hercules! 2.0 - the spine is basically missing, but since this is a square bound annual, it doesn't affect the integrity of the book, and both front and back covers are still firmly attached #126 - 1st issue of Thor! 1.8 - This has a kid's name, a store stamp, and a date stamp! It's got everything, and it's still holding together! I love well loved books like this. I can't be the only one, right? #133 - 1st full Ego the Living Planet! 4.5 #148 - 1st Wrecker! 6.5 #150 - 1st Hela! 5.0 - Looks beautiful, but is a little toasty, particularly on back cover. #165 - 1st full Him/Adam Warlock! 3.5 - has some bends and is super dirty. A press and a clean would make this look a billion times better, though I'm not sure it would improve the grade with the scuffing and creases on the edges. #166 - 2nd full Him/Adam Warlock! 5.0 #168 - Galactus! 5.0 - structurally nice, but dust shadow and toastiness on edges #169 - Galactus! 5.5
  17. This time around, I talk about getting creative inspiration from others making art — and making comics. https://crimebustercomics.com/2019/02/01/inspiration/
  18. I have talked to plenty of people who like Frank Robbins, and not just his writing, but his art as well.
  19. As Iceman399 implied, Justice League of America #75 is actually the most important Silver Age appearance for Black Canary, by far. BB61 and 62 are tryouts on Earth 2. In JLoA 75, the character is completely revamped, to the point where it was later retconned that the story actually introduces a new character, the daughter of the original Black Canary. She gets her canary cry powers, begins a relationship with Green Arrow, moves to Earth-1, and becomes a member of the Justice League all in #75, plus it has an iconic cover to boot. Pretty much everything modern audiences associate with Black Canary begins in JLoA #75 (other than the name and the fishnets). BB #61 - first full Silver Age appearance of Black Canary JLoA #75 - first appearance of the Silver Age Black Canary
  20. Before JLoA #73 she was in Brave and Bold #61 and 62 teamed up with Starman: (not my copy)
  21. I feel pretty sure we all understand the point of your posts.
