  1. Picked up this one from Dale Roberts. Wasn't cheap but I'm happy with it.

One of my favorite books, and total bi-atch in grade. Mine's a slabbed 9.0, and when I last looked it was highest census. That may have changed - still, a tough, tough book in grade.

    Shep

There's a CGC 9.4 W ending on CL tonight. There is a slabbed 9.6 as well (haven't seen it).

OUR ARMY AT WAR #235 Condition: CGC 9.4 NM

And that is a sweet looking raw copy Jeffro. (thumbs u

Thanks for the heads up, Bill - seems a lot of 9.4 and 9.6 graded issues have appeared since I stopped buying slabs.

Good thing I stopped, too... I'd be broke!

Yeah, despite what you would think, you still have to pay to play in the world of slabbed DC bronze war in 9.6 (and some 9.4s).

I was hoping it would ease up a bit, but no such luck as yet. Most of the books I am looking for don't even come up for sale and I have a feeling CGC's impending new pricing structure will make slabbing most books of this genre and age even less likely in the future.

I still need 6 issues of SSWS post #188 and cannot even find them raw NM or NM+ to slab on my own as I doubt dealers would take the chance due to demand compared to the superhero books.

  3. Found this scan from one of my old board sales... probably my favorite WWT cover... soooooo good.

I am pretty partial to WWT 14 and 24 as far as favorite LD WWTs. I am lucky enough to own a few of his horror covers and he is an excellent illustrator who gets far too little credit IMO. I would love to meet him at a con some day.

  4. Weird can you shed some more light on what you just said as im not sure i understand it. What for example is auction magic archive as ive never heard of it.

Also my memory is poor as i actually thought the Oakland copy went for about $300. Is there anybody else who thought that the winning bidder paid too much at the time and more importantly what do you War collectors think that book is worth today.

AuctionMagic is sniping software that can act as a permanent "Watch List." Meaning it will save ebay item descriptions locally for reference purposes. Since I watch a lot of late SA and Bronze SSWS CGC books, I happened to have the issue you mentioned in my archive and after a quick search identified the book and bidding information.

It was also mentioned in another thread at the time because a board member here(1 of the main war guys) tried to snipe it but was outbid. If anybody has a link to that discuassion id be pleased to see it because for the life of me i just cant find it. Thanks.

Oakland SSWS 138 was a 9.2 that ended on 11.28.06. Execsec2 sold it to internetworkshop for $500. Motorcitycomics had a non-pedigree 138 in 9.6 end two days later for $1200 (which was the starting bid) to merceade. Goldust40 won some of the other SSWS Oaklands in that batch, perhaps he is the board member you are thinking of?

    You've either got a fantastic memory, or you've got a great record-keeping system. 893applaud-thumb.gif

I wish my memory was that good, Andy. AuctionMagic's archives and collecting the title for a while provided that information. (thumbs u

  7. Very nice randyp. :applause:

I would like to see a CGC Registry set for Blitzkrieg. And I would like to see a Showcase edition of the odds and ends of Bronze DC War as well. Like Blitz and Four Star Battle Tales, DC 100 Pagers, Brave and the Bold crossovers, DC Special, DC Super-Stars, DC Presents crossovers, GI War Tales, etc., as well. Even though I know it will never happen.

This thread has been dead! I love Silver. And Bronze is before my time for the most part (even tough that is what I collect), let's liven it up! Anyone have some interiors to post? Once I finish my SSWS set I will overload the thread with posts from my favorite run, but I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

  8. I always LOVED the "Goth Chicks" on 130 & 134... :cloud9:

I like 134 bunches, myself. Always found it odd though that the husband finds it strange to be getting company at midnight, yet thinks nothing of still being dressed in a suit. hm

I think maybe it's a smoking jacket and an ascot? (shrug)

  9. Thanks guys. The reason I asked is because I am currently waiting on that one cgc'd 9.6 copy to arrive in the mail. I knew that it was the only and highest graded copy but wanted to try and get a feel for how many other raw copies might be out there, in that grade.

No problem. (thumbs u LMK if you ever decide to sell. :foryou:

I use Valiantman's site quite a bit when researching the Census. CGC should totally implement his work into their site. Their Census interface is a little clumsy and fairly tedious.

    SSWS at Valiantman's Site

And I was not meaning to contradict you too much Shep, my experience has just differed for those later issues raw and I do a pretty good job of looking - I just don't take a lot of eBay chances anymore. Them not being slabbed I can totally understand - the demand is just not there.

  10. Is a high grade SSWS #180 common or is it not? (shrug)

    Thanks, Bill

HG, as in slabbed? It is not. There is 1 9.6 and no other copies graded. From 180 to 204 there are three issues which only have one graded copy and four issues which have no graded copies.

Do demand and prices realized have a lot to do with that? No doubt, but I have been looking for raw copies to submit on my own and finish out my Registry set and have not come across too many over the past 3+ years. VFs of later SSWS you can get all day long raw, but strict NM and above? Not from the major dealers I follow. I do not plan on finishing my set anytime in the near future. Almost half the issues I need don't even have a copy in the census.

The 190s are the toughest stretch by far. In fact, 3 out of the 4 "no copies graded" issues come from the 190s.

    Another Bill

  11. You're so right... very, very, very tough book to find in grade.... almost impossible above 9.4 - nice one!

Did you get a nice 237? Let's see it - that is a super tough issue.

    Shep

Yeah, after I saw the 422, I noticed the BIN on the 237 was about $5 over OS for a 9.2. :o I hit that one quick too. Nice White-paged, super clean looking copy and tied for top census. Not too shabby.
