  1. Fellas,

Just got this in the mail today. Extremely happy to have found the Dominguez cover for HOS 127. I love bronze horror comics and pool, so this is pretty much all I could ask for in one package. It will be up on the wall as soon as I can get it in to my framer.

A big thanks to Norrin Radd for the heads up on this. Took a big chance on a low feedback seller on ebay and everything worked out well.

  2. What quality pages did the last 9.6 go for? I think it had OW pages...the one up now has OWW...mine cost around $210 or so for a WHITE page copy. Page quality does get factored in...but still a YIKES from this corner. $250+ range was appropriate prior to the flooding. I personally think the market could bear those number of copies, but selling them all at once isn't going to net the seller the best results.

Both the last 9.6 and 9.4 on Heritage had White pages.

  3. Hi everyone, I just spent my entire Sunday reading every post of this thread and I have to say it was pretty cool. I have to agree that there have been several copies of this book up for sale recently. There's currently a 9.4 copy listed on Comiclink for $200 so it will be interesting to see what the 9.6 on ebay goes for, I'm guessing around $250 to $290. I have several Wrightson duplicates listed in the registery including a 9.2 HOS #92 so if anyone's interested in making a trade then let me know. headbang.gif

Well if you check out the Heritage archives, you can see the impact that many copies have had on recent selling prices. The last 9.6 went for $138 and the last 9.4 went for $80 and that's with the juice. I'd say if someone ends up paying near your guess, they haven't done their homework on the book.

    And welcome to the boards!

  4. Yet another coming up --> HOS 103

If you take a look at the cert. numbers for the batch it looks like one submission order alone had 9 or 10 9.4 and up HOS 103s in it (including a 9.8), 5 HOS 108s and 4 Unexpected 147s. That'll swell up the census numbers for those issues pretty quick.

HOS 103 is still a way cool black cover. Just will make it more affordable in slabbed higher grade I guess.

  5. Picking up from Greggy's killer run of OAAW, here's some Sgt. Rock books. Some of these have been posted in the past, but it's always nice seeing them one after the other.

I still haven't found a decent 302. I think it is harder than US 205.

Anyone have any idea if the print runs changed when OAAW and SSWS had their title changes? Or did they remain the same?

  6. Weird,

That's a killer-nice copy.... don't sweat the 'hanging chad'. Takes nothing away from the book.

Question - do you keep your CGC books slabbed, or do yo break them open? As for myself, when it's a book for my collection (ie never selling it as long as I live) I take it our of the case.

But I keep the cgc slip!

    Shep

    Shep,

In the SSWS run (including a 144), I have 5 slabbed books so far. For storage and protection, I have left all of them in the slabs. I will probably break them out at some point and save the labels as you have done. My Oakland SSWS books look fine in mylar and the others would too.

I have been wondering lately if CGC will ever put up a SSWS 151 on up Registry set (or Bronze OAAW/Rock, GIC, OFF, or US - for that matter). Even though I am not into the Registry thing, that may prompt me to start slabbing my high grade/pedigree copies in the run. SSWS would probably be the only title I would do that with.

  7. Slowly making progress on getting SSWS 151 and up in VF or better (hopefully, with most at VF/NM or above).

I had seen this one on Mile High for a while, but it looked like a bottom corner piece was loose in the slab so I never pulled the trigger. Took a chance and bought it and the corner looks like an odd production error instead of normal damage.

It is like a piece of the cover that is in addition to where the cover would normally end - like it wasn't a clean cut and this little bit is still hanging on. I dunno - doesn't bug me enough for me not to keep it. confused-smiley-013.gif

  8. If so, I need to focus on war a lot more, as the stories are hands-down the best from that period.

Nice books and your comment is dead on. I think they are the best stories in the 1950s too, compared to other DCs. And the 1970s, though I'd put the Weird Westerns up there too. Let's face it, the war (and DC western) books are just more adult than most other genres. For obvious reasons.

    Marc

I just started reading the Weird Westerns and you are absolutely right, they are excellent as well. The subject matter just lends itself well to comics.

I just finished reading the first 100 pages or so of the Showcase Presents Jonah Hex. Excellent stuff (most of which I have already read). Can't wait to get to the Fleisher issues. cloud9.gif
