  1. While I have avoided the boards since they were changed to the horrible way they currently look, I popped on after doing a search for the name Herb Dolph.  I just bought the Fantastic Four 34 which has Mr. Dolph's name stamped on the first page last Sunday at NYCC from High Grade Comics.  Almost a decade after the first, and even the last post, this thread became relevant to me.  Blazingbob, I assume you were the gentleman I dealt with when buying a batch of 10 Fantastic Four books and 2 Captain America books.  I am glad to hear that Mr. Dolph reached out to you and hope that almost a decade later he is still in good health.   I wish both of you the best.

    Respectfully,

    Jay Ward

  2. The one to the right is the Deluxe version and if you look at the top left you will see that word underneath the word X-Men.  The middle one is the newsstand Deluxe version, which I believe is the only version the newstands got.  The one on the left is the regular non-deluxe version.  The difference is that the Deluxe versions, which I believe there are more of than regular, have better paper quality.

They have been promising version 8.0 for something like 8 years. The company was owned by a couple of people with minimal staff, and they sold it to one of their most active community contributors... who has a day job... and never delivered on a promised re-write of 8.0.

The software was never built to handle a community the size of ours. The search function bogs down the whole site whenever anyone does anything intense. The plugin community is thin. The "modern" version of the software doesn't handle responsive design. The future of the whole product is in question. The last version of the product was release 2 years ago, and was a tiny little release. v7.5 - the last real release - was done in 2009.

It doesn't show up in market share estimates anymore because no one adopts the software:

When we selected the boards back in the 90's, it was a good and intuitive product in its field, but it's been left behind since then.  With 9+ million posts, it was time to move to a more robust solution with a real product road map and active development.

THIS is an inferior product.   I used to read the boards several times throughout the day.  It was easy, I could turn my phone to landscape and see everything just fine.  I also did not have to scroll through every name in a PM thread.  I only have come on the boards a handful of time since this dreadful style began and I really only look in here.   You posted this on 2/14 and I saw it today when I clicked the dot to see new posts.  I admit that I stopped reading at the point because I just do not understand what "the brains" at CGC have against giving their customers what they want.  This is like a repeat of the moronic case that no one wanted to admit was crushing books inside.  Then when submissions declined, they popped back up with another case that had an inner well.  This new look is horrible and is not used friendly.  People will not get used to it and be happy.  They will stop or slow down on how often they come here.  Facilitators will get less orders, members looking to have sales threads will not have their items seen, advertisers will pay less to have their banners displayed because the site gets less traffic and CGC will make less money.  You can defend it all you want, you are allowed to be wrong.  I would ask though that you do not defend another poor choice by your company to people that have supplied it with income, in many cases for years, because they are upset about a useful tool being made into a mockery of its former self.  I will not be frequently checking back so if you would like to reply please do so and send me a PM to let me know which page of this ever growing thread to check.  There are already a ton of pages ahead of the one where I found this and I am not reading them all.  The good news is you will not have to worry about another 9 million posts, unless they are in this thread.

  4. I would not bother to try to obtain a 1:1,000 variant, but I am curious about the $9.99 price tag mentioned for Amazing Spider-Man 25. I checked the websites for both Midtown Comics and Mile High Comics and they are both listing it as $3.99. I think that might have been misread, possible Marvel was charging store owners $9.99 specifically for the 1:1,000 variant (which would ridiculous since they should get that free considering they ordered 1,000 of the regular cover to sell at the $3.99 price), or possibly misread another way.

  5. Hey there!

Welcome to the boards. Good luck building your collection.

  6. If I'm paying him $30 per book to sign, he should sign where I WANT him to..not where he feels like he should.

I definitely agree and while I have not had this problem with him, I have paid Jim Steranko almost as much and had him insist on using black in a dark area while I was asking him to use a red paint pen that I was handing him. Due to this, I will not get more signatures from him in the future.

  7. 3 invoiced received 4/27. Modern tier

    1 invoice shipped 7/14

    1 invoice shipped 7/15

And the last invoice still sitting in encapsulation

This is good news for me. I have two invoices that were received on 4/29/16 that have been sitting in graded for awhile. Maybe they will get mailed out soon. Hopefully all the reholders will be taken care of soon and the turn around times will start to come back down.

  8. I feel your pain but yes this story has so much build up that it has to come to a violent end i cant see it being drawn out to long without ruining the epic feeling of the first half....for me its a great time to be a comic reader with this and saga when they both end those will be two runs hard to replace

Agreed. Does Saga have a stated final issue ?

No, that has never been said. However, here is a Brian K. Vaughn quote from I believe January of 2014:

"I know exactly how the story ends, down to the last page, but I don’t know exactly how long it will take to get there. It’s a long one, that’s for sure."

I think he also once made a joke about it being one issue longer than The Walking Dead.

  9. do you guys think that people returning books to have "re-done" should get 1st priority over people who have been waiting for their first books to get done?

are the "re-do" customers entitled to have orders done twice, while the rest of us are still waiting to get an order done once?

Since you never responded to me in the thread you created about this same thing, I will sum up what I wrote there. Yes, we should because we have comics that are potentially being crushed within the slab. Please go back to the thread you created and read through my full posts with pictures. Again, I am happy that you have not had issues but had you received a comic that has a big dent or "wave" in the middle you might want it out of there and into a safe slab as soon as possible as well.

  10. What happened to the original Electro that they need a new one?

The original Electro was a male.

    But he's still alive, correct?

I haven't even seen the character, but I was guessing it was a female.

You are correct, he is alive. I assume they will explain the switch later on, but who knows. I am sure it is just one more move in Marvel's plans for an entirely female universe. Maybe it will be written really well and most of us will like it, but I doubt it.

  11. Hey Frank B said on his facebook that there should be some news in the Fall about Five Ghosts

For anyone that's forgotten the last comic came out in July of 2015

    doh!

Fall is still awhile away, but I will look forward to any good news. This book has an excellent creative team and I will buy future issues whenever they come out.
