  1. [Yeah, there's a few Kaluta and Kubert covers, sure and even a previously unused Wrightson cover on Secrets of Haunted House 44 in 1982 but overall, the ends of those runs can't compare to the beginnings.

Unfortunately, that's the case. I love them all because it's a set...it's like you can't start with desert without the main meal so from a collecting standpoint I'm all in....but If I had to chop 30% of my run the later 30% of the run would definitely be it...save for 1st I, Vampire and the occasional Adams, Wrightson, Kaluta, Kubert cover.... ironically though the later part of the run is what I bought off the stands and read as a kid, so there's still that nostalgic value....so still...tough call.

  2. lol, I guess I've forgotten how to search for posts....I need another WTTB training session.... doh!

That's what you get for believing you can leave this place. :baiting:

    Cue Hotel California

Indeed. You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave. Stab it with their steely knives, but you still can't kill the beast.

  3. I think Ghosts has some of the best covers not done by guys like Adams and Wrightson. Cardy was firing on all cylinders when he was doing covers for Ghosts.

I agree--I think Dominguez is highly unrated as well. And Kubert really didn't get to shine that much in the horror realm but I really like some of the stuff he presented as well. Didn't care too much for the Heck / Giordinodo covers though. I know I massacred the spelling.

  4. ^ It's the reason why I got suckered into collecting that series, despite the precipitous decline both in covers, story and art in the later issues.

Just a quick reminder on a few Kickstarter Horror items that I invested in. Crypt of Screams has 3-4 days and Untold has ~10 days left. The Crypt of Screams is fully funded (by 300%) and looks awesome, if not mature. COS is pure anthology while Untold is an ongoing story / plot.

The Untold book looks more psychological driven....which should play out well over subsequent issues. I'm really digging the art style. There are still spots open if you want Vicks to do a sketch, as well as original art if that's your thing. I did some cameos (you'll be surprised) and the Dark Figure OA.

    And both are 1st issues!

    Untold - Kickstarter

    Untold - Facebook

Check em out, throw em some money if inclined. Support those who create the content we love!

  5. Why don't they just hire more graders???

I wouldn't submit anything to them unless it was done via fast track.

    You answered your own question.

I'm ok with a little wait. Last time they hired a bunch of new graders earlier this year the grading got way too tight.

Buyers aren't going to be duped into buying the label. I'm laughing at all of these 9.2s in 9.8 slabs and then laughing at the asking price. Good luck with that.

  6. Seems like theft would be rampant at the CGC headquarters; especially in terms of outbound shipping. Even if one didn't know what CGC stood for, a simple google search would confirm the type of business and address. Carriers know based on the address that in every box there is something valuable.

What are you basing this off of?

    Can you be more specific?

Are you stating that theft IS rampant via shipping outbound from CGC? If so, please provide additional info. Thanks.

No I don't know that, but if it were it wouldn't come as a surprise. I mean all packages leaving there headquarters address have comics in them. A carrier could google the return address on the box, know what kind of business is operated at that address (i.e. grading and returning of high dollar comics).

Well sure, there's always a chance/possibility...but as others have noted if there was a trend we as a community would be all over this like stink on mess.

Welcome to the bores. zzz .. err...boards...

  8. Is DC Horror making a comeback? I remember years ago when they were all the rage and the prices they were fetching were incredible which was when i decided to sell but i still kept an eye on sales as it was a genre i remembered and collected fondly. Prices then started to dip and then flatlined but in the past year they seem to have been on the rise again, especially the issues with classic covers and those in high grade. A House of Secrets #94 that fits both bills and a comic that has always frustratingly eluded me in high grade was sitting at such a reasonable price yesterday that i thought i would bid on it just to say i finally managed to get a copy. The price with about6 hours to go was $229 which was below my maximum bid but I had to go out and do something so I thought I would bid when I came back. So 20 minutes later I came home and when I checked it had more than doubled to $485. I could not believe it as there were still several hours to go. A little over an hour later it then rose up to $555 which was above my max bid so I didn’t bid. Im not sure what the GPA is on this book but it finished above $1200 which seems like a strong price and a lot more than I thought it was going to fetch. Anybody have any thoughts.

Where's the link to the book you refer to?

It all basically boils down to if there's competition for any book at any point in time. Bernie is always in demand, anyways. Want to see what my 9.8 Dominguez cover of Ghosts will sell for? Cheap.

Frankly b/c of the height of the 2000-2004 timeframe I think a lot of books are overpriced now. I've been gone five years and I see the same issues for sale. So I'd say AT BEST "certain issues of a common popular cover artist" is hotter momentarily, but I definitely don't buy the genre is on fire. Which is the way I like it. How else am I going to get 9.8 issues for less than I paid for 9.6 copies?

Here's a well aligned copy of a HOS 91 in 9.4 /White pages that sold at least $50 cheaper than I paid for 9.4:

  9. I get that lawyers specialize in certain areas...I doubt there is a need to specialize in the "shipper service / lost packages" space, otherwise they would be there like the ambulance chasers. You may want to seek out one that specializes though...not sure which one it would be--maybe the local lawyers here can chime in.

What your response from the lawyers are telling me is "it's not worth my time to figure it out---at least for free of charge". Or did you pay for that answer?

  10. ^ Agreed. I think Wayne-Tec has reached the capacity of what this board can do and offer. Time to visit handleonthelaw.com maybe?

Does FFB still peruse the boards? I'm not sure as a consumer of their shipping service you necessarily have rights to COMPEL them to deliver that information. That said, a lawyer can try...but that will cost you.

I'm not sure what you're looking for that will satisfy you....it sounds like you don't believe them or trust them to do their job to look for the package. And I get that you feel like they're not doing everything YOU THINK THEY SHOULD BE DOING...but they're not going to dance along to your tune.

At the end of the day, that's what insurance is for. That is the albatross we should learn from this experience.

  11. FedEx is protected in the event of damage or loss, but not free of liability in the event of internal theft, correct?

As of now, I've been provided with no direct evidence to prove it was stolen, but because the package went missing on FedEx property, I have no means to investigate on my end. Some have suggested that the police can not, and will not, conduct a physical search themselves. If this is true, and it may be, can someone please help me track down the law/statute that states this.

But "if" I am provided with no means of external investigation (e.g. the police), am I at least entitled to the details of FedEx's investigation? When searches took place, the duration of the searches, the locations within the hub that were physically searched, the number of employees that were spoken to in an effort to track the package down, etc.

Because if my package was stolen by own of their own employees, a thorough investigation could make all of the difference in aiding the chance of recovery. Conversely, a shallow search could easily allow a stolen package to slip through the cracks.

What if they refuse to provide the details of their search, or, if those details illustrate a lack of thorough effort on their part to locate the lost property?

I get your'e upset, but you're talking about things I'm not sure you have the power to influence...short of following the age old advice: you'll get more bees with honey.

  12. If my understanding is correct from the context in this thread, that $4K FMV was just pulled out of proverbial hat for the sake of CGC/picking a stated value on the form. I do believe the real value of this piece/slab (what it would fetch in the open market) is significantly >$4K. And the total out of pocket cost for the OP is in fact > $4K.

I bought the page from a fellow collector for $4,300 -- a good deal IMO, as it was more than $100 less than a similar example, page 3, sold for at CC auction recently.

did anyone ask if you have your collection insured with CIA or the likes?...

    yes, near the top

  13. I'm assuming the hotflips version have all that advertising on them as shown in the picture on their website, so if you want the one like you posted an image of, you can get them from E.Gerber.

    http://bit.ly/29V3lhB

Thanks, definitely cheaper...which makes me suspect if this doesn't have the CGC logo on them. FYI I've had the boxes with and without and those without did feel of less quality. Does anyone know what kind eGerber has?

They have the logo, just like the picture you posted. I've ordered several from them.

    Awesome...Eureka! Thanks so much.
