  1. That's not how it works... $12,100 - "fair value" = amount you can claim as a charitable donation. We discussed this a few pages ago. What determines FMV? Here is the defenition from IRS Publication 561: You would have to argue that the FMV of the Adlard cover was less then what it sold for. That seems tough to me. That's why I say you would need to prove that it's FMV is more than what it ended for. $$ - $12,100 = deduction. Either way you want to look at it, consult a competent tax preparer. I don't think the recipient of the artwork can claim ANY write-off because they are receiving the artwork that was sold on the open market. Regardless that the money is going toward charity - the fact is, it sold on the open market and the fact that it sold with the proceeds going to charity does not change the value of the item received. The person getting the write-off here would be the artist IF the artist donated the piece and did not get anything in return. Oh, and never to post here and not take a shot on WD prices. No offense, but 12 grand on that WD cover :insane: :insane: :insane:

  13. ever since his eBay auctions, the cheapest as of the end of 2012 was around $600. This year, they've averaged $950. i remember seeing on end on ebay around 350 for cinn-con? maybe it was 2 years ago already..sheesh im getting old
  14. different claudio - not inferior -- in fact - i think adlard is better at drawing emotion than moore - moore is very cartoony - very teenage style - adlard has got a lot of maturity to his work - unfortunately hes also got a schedule which means the last 15 issues have been terrible and the last 30 were worse and worse progressively. what passes for a cover now is pathetic and the prices paid for them are even worse. that said, i wouldnt pay 1000 for a TM commission either - he doesnt seem to spend too much time on them - the time he spends is probably worth a couple of hundred bucks if that - the problem is - too many people would want them at that point - so i really think he has to keep the artwork prices artificially high - remember kiddos, his commissions as close as LAST YEAR were going for 3-500.

  18. just watched the finale. boo. super boo. so many reasons to boo, too lazy to type - but seriously, the entire season was pretty lame. also about syndication - its tough for a show like TWD to syndicate well - each episode is a progression and doesnt really work well on its own - take any really successfully syndicated show: seinfeld, mash, law and order, star trek, simpsons -- they all worked well as individual episodes, and because of that, they worked well in syndication... you cant really watch TWD out of order...can you? oh, and finally, boo season 3, boo.
  19. woah, gone for a week or so and i miss a lot! congrats james on the massive purchase
