  1. See you I have no problem with Banner, so it would seem odd that you would align yourself with such trash. The only thing I can do is present what happened and you can judge for yourself. I guess Hammer paved the way for others to swindle the board as they please. You don't have to present anything to me, I was there waiting for the books, I was interested, I emailed him, Sterling changed the method by which he chose to sell the books, we were disappointed he didn't list them here first, I bid on a couple on ebay but didn't win any as the prices were too high for me personally, and that's the end of story. How did you get so bitter about it? It's just not that big a deal...I suggest you let it go.
  2. Sterling - I don't know what happened to the forum member formerly known as deathlok that used to seem reasonable, but I don't think anyone else around here has the same skewed perception of your fund raising endeavour that he does. It wasn't seamless...but under duress, what is? I suggest you simply ignore him as you've said your peace, and most trolls stop if they don't receive reciprocal attention. With that, I'll present a recent acquisition...not quite into the horror run of the title, but hey it's an Adams cover and it's "seasonal"!!
  3. DBanner, now just what did you mean by that? I was just defending myself a few pages back when Greggy threw some darts at me proclaiming that I was playing by some kind of different rules a year ago when I first came to these boards. I was just defending myself regarding how I started a thread about how I was ripped off on an overgraded and restored comic. And I ALWAYS take a position. If you cannot see that then maybe YOU cannot see the obvious. My position is that I do not throw darts at an individual without a voice. I hope that you can respect that. It appears that if you cannot, then maybe things are not as obvious as you say they are. Ok, I'll agree with whatever you're trying to say if you promise not to psycho-babble-analyze any more posts on this thread ('cause no one can figure out what you're trying to say half the time anyway).
  4. They weren't dups? Well I greatly appreciate you selling them to me then.... I've been picking up more GK horror/mystery lately and am starting to really appreciate the painted covers. It's amazing to see what I've been missing all these years by just simply stopping and giving them a closer look instead of just flipping through because they were "GKs"... Jim I agree, I may have to start searching out more GK's! The Blazing One mentioned in one of a recent post on the board that GK's were selling well, but that he was unsure as to whether or not they were overpriced since there have been warehouse find(s?) of the books. The early, painted issues of Solar, Magnus, Star Trek, Twilight Zone, Lost in Space, etc.,. do seem to be a little pricey to me.
  5. Nope, we just need to weed out the bad apples Which reminds me, got any other Oaklands you can post... I think I posted my Oakland HoM and Unexpecteds already? However, I have been able to upgrade a few books recently, but since I'm limiting my horror to the DC titles up to/including the 52 pagers, they've probably all been posted!! I'll see what I can dig up. In the meantime, I'll toss out a little history of collecting this genre with the original Oakland list of DC horror from August of '98 (incomplete as I didn't have the list of all issues)...and to think there are those who would deny these books pedigree status!! 6. Yeah, I like all the GK painted covers and have veered out of my focused want list recently to pick some up...including re-acquiring the Mars Patrol issue(s?) I sold you, now why'd I ever do that!?!?! Covers are great...deathlok blabbering on and on about some unending vendetta against Sterling without apparent reason isn't, neither is reading yet another dart-throwing/forum policing post from MK, nor is yet another post from bassgman stating the obviously obvious while weighing the evidence to and fro about any particular position without taking a stand on anything.
  7. Looks like this thread has run it's intended course...and has now devolved into an ongoing "thread of horrors"!!
  8. Great! Always nice to do business with collectors of good taste... Let me toss out another round of Kudai for recent sucessful transactions with: Flaming_Telepath Rip awe4one donut greggy shrunkenhead tkg2627
  9. Sorry...have never had another copy better than VF/NM or so. greggy has one of the other 9.4's that he picked up in a Vault Auction, and the 3rd 9.4 copy sold on ebay several years ago for a paltry $450 or so (as I recall). There is a bit of a story behind this book however, and hopefully I won't get bonked over the head for telling it . This copy was listed on ebay as a "NM", but had the typical teeny ebay-size scan. The seller had a few comics listed, as well as numerous pieces of original art from Mad magazine. I emailed him asking for a better scan and learned that the seller was an artist who used to draw for Mad. So he sends me a scan and since the book looks great, I make him an offer-he-can't-refuse, he pulls the auction, and a few days later I'm a happy camper! This was in the pre-CGC days, at a time when sellers like loisandclark, hogations, and nochips were offering quite a bit of NM DC bronze, and the good stuff (the 100 pagers, Super DC Giants, etc.,.) was going for WAY over guide. There were a couple alleged NM copies offered around that time, and just before I picked this up there was another copy that got pulled early, so I learned you either join 'em, or you get left behind. Yup! Unless it's you or I, of course! But of course!

  11. Back in '02 we were buying a new house, so I liquidated many books and downgraded many others. I sent a slew of books to CGC, including 9.4 copies of Marvel Spotlight 2, Batman 227/232/234, Hulk 181, etc.,. Amongst these were several high-grade DC horror books, including what was then the only 9.4 copy of DC 100 Page Superspectacular #4. Anyhow, I sold most of the books, and was planning on selling them all (or I wouldn't have had them slabbed in the 1st place), but the horror books weren't really selling for all that much and I was reluctant to let them go. However, a collector I had done a good bit of business with offered me silly money for the DC 4, so I sold it. To this day, that's the only book I've really regretted selling. Fortunately, about a year later the guy emails me and says he wants to get out of collecting and would I like to buy back some of the books. I said sure, and "Hey, do you still have the DC-4?". Long story short...I bought it back at the same silly money price I sold it for and the book made my "grail list" in the Holy Grail thread...and here it is.
  12. Actually, many of the later NM and better books went for below guide!?!? Of course those never end up being the ones we need, do they?
  13. I saw jscomics and his HOM lot--the bidding got too frantic for me--even those 60 centers were going for $20 +... so I bailed. Who was selling HOS and Witching Hours? I did pick up a couple of nice Ghosts/Witching Hour from nochips; his grading is spot on... Yeah, Stu's books are pretty nice! JS also sold runs of HoS and Witching Hour recently...
  14. Anyone notice the huge influx of BA DC horror on ebay lately? Seems there have been several, near complete high grade runs of 20-cent and later issues of HoM, HoS, Witching Hour, etc.,. on ebay lately. Not that I'm complaining!!
  15. Nice! Regardless of the genre, you gotta love his use of color and the rather psychadelic layout of many of his covers...
  16. I believe I have it on my trade list as a VF+, but it is nicely centered with good color and cover gloss so on eye appeal it might get bumped up to 9.0-ish?
  17. Is everyone here aware of the Official DC Bronze Horror Trading Post? Ok, that's not the real title of the thread but it can be found in the marketplace forum, or at the link above. As of this weekend Sterling was not aware of the thread, so I suspect it may be news to a few others as well.
  18. Nice color on that Shocking Mystery! Here's a Cole Dinosaur cover...or maybe it's Godzilla?
  19. The 1st Cole War book for the thread, nice! I have a few on my want list, but to date this is the only one I've secured.
  20. Did you click on the finger? Here's the Startling Terror Tales #11 black logo variant:
  21. And then there's the little known Hulk prototype LB Cole issue! "Suppose you could separate the good from the bad...One man dared experiment with nature and became his other self..."
  22. Hmmm...I'd put it in the fine range, but am afraid it might get the qualified label. When it arrived and I opened it up, I was a bit dismayed as there was writing on the bottom of the 1st page: Suspense Comics #8 for $10!?!?
