Let's examine ASM 194. I've included links to the cert verification page, added pics and comments when the book and the grade don't jive and found one for sure scam book.
Some of these books really should not have been given a 9.8
    16 sales since Sep, 2022
    4074245001 Sep 19 2022 $4000
    4109596003 Oct 20 2022 $3950
4152956002 Dec 16 2022 $4995 - We have a hit here... This book was "sold" by the seller Dec 16 2022 w/o the Mark Jewelers designation on the label. This book has a new holder with the MJ indicator. 100% a different comic.

    4130849002 Jan 16 2023 $3950
    4121886001 Feb 13 2023 $3252 - Submitted with 4121886002 below.
    4146028003 Apr 4 2023 $3665
    4121886002 Apr 11, 2023 $3718 - Note, submitted alongside 4121886001
    4199541002 May 22, 2023 $3218
    4167224003 Jun 5, 2023 $2755
4235257002 Jun 13, 2023 $2808 - Ink loss above Amazing and Marvel Comics Group, hell of a wavy book. Slight Miswrap, distrib ink stain back top.
4265040002 Aug 17, 2023 $3450 - Apparent cbc on front middle spine, scuffs on front right edge, large stress line on back bottom staple. Ding to back top left corner.
    4261360005 Aug 28, 2023 $3201
4301294002 Sep 20 2023 $2400 - Top edge wear, miscut, possible ding on bottom of UPC
    4301294002 Oct 4, 2023 $2226 - Same issue as sold on Sep 20th
There was one other sale in 2016, cert 0284402016, an 8.5 that sold for $100, however I cannot find that cert in the census db. The book doesn't appear like any of the others above.

So when someone replies to YOUR post, simply because you're WRONG, it's trolling and targeting.
It's weird... you talk about 'inspiring conversation', and that's all good and fine when people agree with what you are on about, but as soon as anyone disagrees with you, you call it 'targeting'.
You don't have to interact with Cat, you can put him on ignore. You don't have to interact with Buzz, you can put him on ignore. You don't have to interact with anyone you don't want to.

I really don't get it. The eBay sellers name is B Riva
One of his customers came on, and showed a message and said that the sellers name is Bree
All I said is that there is a Bree Riva, that matches perfectly three different eBay seller city locations that have already been documented.
It really wasn't some enormous leap.

I think the idea of criminal masterminds is overblown. Most crime (and this is one, if you think of it in terms of defrauding people) is unsophisticated and not particularly well thought out. I would default to: this individual found an angle, figured out a way to capitalize on the angle, conned an unknown amount of people with it, and then was eventually found out. We are dealing with Joe Pesci's character in Home Alone rather than Magneto.

His first name is Brees, which i found from the box label when he shipped me a Hulk 340 9.8 i won on Oct 24, 2023. When i received the book I found that the book had 4 or 5 color breaking spine ticks along it's black spine and was disappointed that this book was able to be graded a 9.8 by CGC. The book was at most a borderline 9.0 or 9.2 at most.
Luckily Brees allowed refunds on his ebay auctions, and I was able to return and get a partial refund (lost around $200 Cdn due to exchange rate and shipping costs). I tried looking for his address, but the book was shipped back to Ebay Global Shipping hub location at Glendale Heights IL, which was then forwarded to his Forest Hills home.
Fortunately I feel lucky that i was able to recoup almost 90% of the book, unlike others here who were scammed thousands for much higher books. It looks like he was not just swapping out golden age books, or MJ newsstands, but also common books like Hulk 340s.
I messaged him for refund and you can see in the ebay history how he tried to justify his scam by saying lots of CGC 9.8s have spine ticks. Read below.

My perspective is that it's a hell of a loophole, and the only reason this guy got caught is because he got greedy and tried his trick with a very high profile book that subject matter experts would have had their eyes peeled to. Greed got the best of him. Had he stuck to Hulk 181's, Secret Wars 8's, New Mutants 98's and ASM 300's, he likely never would have been caught. Where there is smoke, there is fire. There is undoubtedly others out there who have been pulling the same trick who just weren't dumb enough to leave as many identifiable fingerprints behind. Instead, he left a crumb trail of poor grammar and writing that revealed questionable activity for over 12 years. The other thing is how often this guy resold the same books, how the hell did eBay not recognize the obvious fraud going on there?
  10. Thanks

I wasn’t defending his statement just analyzing your choice of words. But since you asked, when you first showed up in this thread, days after it started, and commented obviously without reading the thread or watching the videos were you ignorant, lying or insane?  Your choices not mine.

Why do we have to splice these side bar arguments to the atom level. Personally I find them distracting and something like this will eventually derail this thread. Just my 2 cents.

I don't consider a credible company one that takes money for gimmicked grades, aka the Bad Idea transparent bought grades, that was wrong on a few levels. That's just the first thing that comes to mind. There's a tonne more.

More Worthpoint mining, this time focusing on ASM #300
He's sold 21 copies just on eBay between Sep 2022 and Oct 2023 (There's one from 2011 too, but not going to count it)
Total final item value of the sales: $82100 and change.
A few of them were sold multiple times however.
Not nearly as easy to pick out differences between the books, and no matching certs here at all, but a LOT of vanity labels.
The books that didn't appear to have any defects I didn't bother copying the picture.

    Conclusions?
I'm too tired to draw any. To me, it sure seems like a lot of 9.4s and 9.6's dressed up as 9.8's, but I'll leave it all here for others to decide. Definitely not as easy to pick out matching books like with the hulk 181s.
Kinda sick of doing this anyway... CGC doesn't pay me enough to do their grunt work.

What I know for certain is this is the second case I've discovered where a green qualified IH 181 (first missing page 10, incomplete) ending-up in a blue label. The second missing the MVS and a panel from pg 14, also ending-up in a blue label.
Occam's razor may not be the most appealing to the raw nerves it exposes, nor does it uncomplicate an already troubling pattern, but I have a hard time reconciling this is not someone with some sort of access right now.

    Two different s/n's:
    Green 7.0: 4115260001
    Blue 7.5:  4115170002
They are both available through lookup, meaning someone had to input them into CGC's database on the very same day. This simply is not possible unless the same person who has access to populating the database also has access to the tooling to make the switch. Remember, the same book went from a green label to blue label.
He could have luckily mined a Blue 7.5 s/n, but the same day as the green label got graded?
At this point, we need to eliminate every possible scenario that this isn't an insider. I can't think of one.

    I predict...
CGC's eventual statement will be that there was an inside man. That way they can act as if the problem slabs are isolated and people think there aren't that many out there and it will blow over sooner.
I think they'll say that no matter what the reality is.
Also, it won't be their 1st or 2nd statement.  The usual revisions will occur first.

Well, I don't know if we are ready for this mystery to become even more complicated, but I'm pretty sure I found another one. This one is a big time head scratcher.
Allow me to post in sequence please as there is a lot I want to show, the before pic (the one I'm asking for clearer pics) shows just enough to make the connection, it's the other part that is going to complicate the heck out of this.

The problem is, there's absolutely no way of knowing how many others out there have also taken advantage of this process flaw in the same way. The bulk of any blame needs to rest at the feet of the company who dares to call themselves Certify Guaranty Company.

    But...
The answer to all the questions of "how did they miss that?", "why couldn't they see that?", "did they even open the books?"....  could easily be "Inside man".
