  1. Thankyou! Once again, I learn something new on these damn fine boards Thanks Ads
  2. OK - I'll be that guy - the book got 7 'likes' - what am I missing?
  3. And here we go...... The problem with making this damn series as per the 'book' was always going to be fear of treading on toes. List of most definately offended people: Israel (Burning down their own Synagogues for starters) - plus much more like, oh, I dunno, invading the USA etc etc Australia (Nation of Heroin users - plus not a hope in hell of using Aboriginal people - it's Australian Law that so many conditions need to be fufilled prior to filming Aboriginal people - including an on-screen message warning of their app on screen as it genuinely is regarded by some as taboo to see others on screen, especially if they have since died, or have deceased relations + recognition of peoples involved) - Beth #1 Cancer sufferers - self mastectomy will go over like a bag of cold sick to a lot of people with Breast Cancer (Daughters Of Amazon) Heaps of lesbianism - some of which is crucial to the actual story Animal rights The Catholic Church - Beth #2 Plus this. Y - The Last Man is what it is: To change it makes it something else, and like Preacher, will make it so much poorer. You can't just add a character to virtue signal or be a woke studio. Film it as written, or leave it for a bolder studio
  4. Some great choices - I'd also have this one...as you can tell Y-The Last Man (IMHO) has some of the greatest covers ever. I believe most were oil on canvas - and I'm pretty sure a boardie owns the one from my 1st post and THIS one. I freaking love this one....
  5. Yeah,I know there's a couple of forums devoted to OA, but unless you are heavily into it then its usually only the officionado's that venture into it. So here in CG I'd thought I'd throw it open to the holy unwashed (that's us btw) If you could find it - what OA would you buy? Lets go personal choice, not for $$ like Tec #27 pages or something. Me - I'd buy this....
  6. Thanks - that was a great read (again). - new members would be well served to read the thread, as when all the messing around is put to one side, what this forum is capable of, is quite astounding. This is probably the only place where the biggest collectors in the world of comics freely share 50 yrs worth of wisdom - you would not find this in any other hobby, especially one with so much $$ attached to it The above is a perfect example. Thanks again @sfcityduck
  7. What about the fabled movie house 1st app of The Submariner? Haven't only something like 8 complete and 3 partial copies ever been discovered. In the world - now that's got to be up there with the most desirable surely? What would one of those actually sell for, should an owner actually ever consider selling one? I believe someone did an awesome thread about it, with scans of some of the pages?
  8. Assuming the staples are attached, that's a book I'd take a chance on. A press won't help 98% of the visable damage, but hopefully would 'tidy' up the book, centre the cover, enough to get a 2.0/2.5 HOWEVER - I do see some kind of ?? foxing/staining on the inside of the cover on the left hand side of the 2nd pic. If there is a large proliferation of that, then it's a -shoot. Perhaps worth sending for a pre-screen, and go from there. I would. Downside - you are out a few $$ for a pre-screen Upside - potential 0.2/0.7 increase. I'd be amazed if anything more than a 2.5 was possible on the sunniest of sunny days.
  9. Damn Rick - just the book I'm after, sadly, the ped puts it just out of reach.... Great Book - and the REAL 1st Scarecrow!
  10. Besides the incredible $10,000 paid for an incomplete 0.5 - current prices are right back in line with GPA 2017 averages. I speak only for GPA, not dealers. The world is in turmoil, people are worried about $$ again, so maybe there is a slight air of caution in bigger books currently. Big events in UK in December and USA in 2020 might want to make people hold off on spending a fair wedge of disposable income. When things settle, perhaps people will have more peace of mind to purchase bigger books. It seems prudent, and lets not forget, some of the prices a 7.0+ have gone for will buy you a house. Maybe sometimes we forget how lucky we are to be able to afford such things, even in the lowest of grades. I consider myself very lucky to have a low grade book (took a year to save for it) - and I only buy books with $$ I make from selling collections of comics, magazines, playboys etc etc that I buy in the wild. No way would I have paid for an AF #15 out of my salary as things currently stand here in Australia - we are teetering on a recession and my home value has dropped 20% over the last 3 yrs - as has most everyone else's here. I'm lucky that I have stable recession-proof employment, but a lot of people in the world don't, so I understand the caution around high value purchases for the average guy (like me!).
  11. Liz - what are ebay bucks exactly - ebay Australia randomly sends a one-time coupon code out ranging from 3% to 10% off 'selected' purchases. Sometimes it has to be over $100 in value to qualify for the discount. It's completely random and sometimes lasts 24 hours or 3 months. But USA ebay lets you accrue 'bucks' - bucks = discount, yes? If that's right, how long do they last. I have bought quite a few books from ebay USA over the years, but never got any 'bucks' - I guess it's at the point of registration that determines what kind of 'bonus' you get? Thanks
  12. Cheetah. Hasn't been seen for a while - that guy had a great collection and knew pretty much everything about well, everything
  13. Get well soon. Stop worrying about funny books on the internet and go spend time with your loved ones. Come back when you are well mate. What would the Big L do? Take it easy - be well - see you soon - health comes first, so go spend some quality family and friends time. This place will be full of the same silliness when you get back Good Luck to you Dude!
  14. As I said in another thread - the cost of my store means I can keep low value items in full view of millions of people for 48c a year each. Dealing with the odd wanker or two is the cost of that 48c. I had one of those Amazing Spider-Man #36 newstand issues - I sold it to a guy for more than I paid for the entire boxload of stuff it came with, and some. He complained the 1st page was blurry. It was a printing thing. I asked him what would make him happy - he wanted a $14 Heavy Metal mag as compo. I repriced it for $1 and he paid for postage. He has since left 5 star feedback. Cost to me - nothing, as the Heavy Metal was a freebie in another bulk purchase. Sometimes people are just wankers. Sometimes you just have to eat a poo sandwich. Sometimes a $1 Heavy Metal Mag gets you a $100 sale and 5 star feedback. How you deal with the complainant usually determines the outcome. It's really isn't a pizzing contest, it's a place to sell funny books and make a few $$ to support your hobby (unless it's your career). Ebay is what it is - a cross-section of normal life with all walks of people who want to pay you a lot more for something, than you originally paid in the first place. Sometimes though, you just have to bend over and smile. Even when you are really, really pizzed. If you can't , then ebay is probably not the place for you to sell. In the end - @showcase4 - I'm sorry you couldn't work something out with the buyer before the claim was thrown in. But, be honest, at those prices, how many thousands of $$ did that issue make you. You did well right? - At $60 a book with a $5 cover price, one return isn't going to kill your bottom line really mate is it.
  15. I know this has been done to death - but the search function is royally bolloxed and after going back 15 pages i gave up. So I was reading Saga and came across their survey results from issue #1 - it was quite encouraging, although it is from 2012. So the average age of reader was 27 with 35% of respondents being female. Maybe the death of this hobby is overstated - I remember some dealers saying they were getting kids at their booths buying books. What are peoples thoughts - agree or are we still heading for comic oblivion in 20 - 30 yrs when the 40 - 50 yr olds start to die off in big numbers Just thought this would be more fun than watching Selena Gomez in a Walt Disney film.
  16. Couple of very nice smaller books too.......but Boom! Dr Doom!
  17. When did Wolvie join 'Manpower'? https://www.manpower.net.au/
  18. Sell. AMC/Kirkman have killed the golden goose. 9.4 of #1 down 40% 9.6 of #1 down by 35% 9.8 of #1 down by 15% but kept alive by weird outliers ($3177 sale ???) The only thing that will save this book financially is the show going free to air. And a whole new team of writers, producers and cast. In fact clear out the whole lot and start again with someone else - they have run out of idea's. #1 - #48 were fantastic. The show on TV - what a dribbling mess. I couldn't name 10 characters now. The show is dead. If it was a horse it would be shot. Sell - you might find one of the very few remaining collectors pay $2-3000 for it. And that will probably be the bloke who paid $3000 for the 9.9 9.8's are struggling to break $100 on AVERAGE - there have been many sub $100 sales, some as low as $68. The last 9.6 sold for $22. Yup $22. What a shame - it's like the comic version of Firefly.......
