  1. If I were to rank all of the threads on the boards, this one would be #1. #2 would be the Adventure/New Adventure thread (which doesn't get any more action because no one can find the books). #3 would be "Which would you choose?", which I didn't like at first but has grown on me and now is a fun distraction, especially when the pairings are chosen well. At the bottom would be anything started by lastyle7.
  2. Don't slab it! Why pay all that money to NOT be able to access your book? Most GA buyers for books under, say, 8.0, aren't so grade conscious that they care about slabbed vs. raw, and if you're concerned about resto there are a number of people who'll check it out for you for far less money than slabbing would cost.
  3. Nice!!! But is it my imagination, or does Buck have headlights too? Saggy side-boob?
  4. I'll go Famous Funnies. Highest graded or not, that seems like a fairly generic issue of Detective Comics.
  5. I think he actually has the books. I just think 1) they're horribly overgraded 2) he takes forever to send them to you 3) he doesn't communicate (other than possibly to try and sell you more *spoon*) If I had recognized "aurikabe" as this guy (who I'd had a run-in with years before), I never would've bid. But with the constantly changing eBay handles I didn't notice. At this point he's pretty much ruined all of Germany for me, as I'm not going to buy a book from there over eBay on the off chance it's him.
  6. I got this book from him under a different eBay name (I think it was "aurikabe"): Advertised as "Fine" when in reality the spine is completely split, both covers detached (not to mention the stain and tape pull, which I could at least see from the auction scan and factor into my bidding). He was impossible to reach via e-mail. I didn't enjoy the transaction at all. As a completionist I was happy to mark the book off my list, and it didn't cost too much, but on general principle I felt like I'd been bent over.
  7. they seem scarce to me, but I'm a novice - been looking for only 3 years. The "low" numbers on my scarcity ratings for these books are in the mid-teens, which is itself a representation of being tough to find. Compare the Science numbers to, say, the scarcity numbers for All Star Comics #1-#8: Science Comics 1.... 17 2.... 20 3.... 14 4.... 17 5.... 13 6.... 16 7.... 18 8.... 13 All Star Comics 1.... 11 2.... 13 3.... 13 4.... 8 5.... 7 6.... 6 7.... 6 8.... 10 Science is a tough title. Fantastic's a bit tougher, that's all.
  8. The later Fantastics (like all 1941 Fox books) are clearly tougher, but generally speaking the covers are weaker and the values are lower, so it's tough to tell how much of the scarcity is for real vs. people just not bothering to submit/consign the books. I've tried to adjust for that in my sheet and I think my rankings are accurate. Those later books are truly tricky. Science Comics ended its run in 1940, before Fox availability dropped off, which is the main reason the run as a whole is easier to find.
  9. Well, to be fair, I've never specifically looked at Atlas books and generally don't keep up with the Timely thread. But still, I thought I'd seen most of the cooler superhero Atlas covers.
  10. Wow, I've never seen that cover before. Great pick-up!!!
  11. Sure! I haven't done Weird yet, but the other two are completed: Fantastic Comics 1.... 16 2.... 16 3.... 24 4.... 21 5.... 19 6.... 19 7.... 21 8.... 15 9.... 10 10.. 17 11.. 15 12.. 20 13.. 21 14.. 18 15.. 21 16.. 22 17.. 22 18.. 24 19.. 28 20.. 23 21.. 20 22.. 21 23.. 22 Science Comics 1.... 17 2.... 20 3.... 14 4.... 17 5.... 13 6.... 16 7.... 18 8.... 13 Generally speaking Science is noticeably easier to find than Fantastic.
  12. I would love to do a deal with you Win, but Ciorac has been promised 1st shot at Detective Dan, if I ever decide to part with it.....which at this moment looks like never That's ok, I'll call dibs on one of your other "Big 3". You can even pick which one. "never" is a long time, but I can wait.
  13. Fantastic!! I love iconic issues like that, even when they're outside of my normal collecting tastes. Speaking of which, let me know when you're ready to trade Detective Dan for a bunch of pre-Batman Detectives.
  14. Nice!!! That's a great cover, and a tough 21 on my scarcity index. Very presentable despite the flaws. The Kooba Cola, however, is a rock-solid 30. Let me know if you find one.
  15. Best thread on the boards. Thanks Scrooge!!!!
  16. Wow, a Millie 42. That's awesome! Someone should let Donut know.
  17. I'll add that it's also one of the easiest Centaurs to find, scoring a 10 on my scarcity ranking. Content + cost + availability = excellent reader issue. Its compatriot, the 2nd issue of the 2-issue series, also has good content and is generally cheap but it's much tougher to find, scoring a 24 on my scarcity scale.
  18. Woo hoo!! That's a very fun goal. I know when I was collecting King Comics 1-12, I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. A big reason was because the books were so darn cheap, especially given their age! Good luck!
  19. I won't be in the hunt, CM - the Little Giants just never grabbed me for some reason...best of luck with your bid. STEVE Thanks, but let me emphasize, in no way should anyone feel the need to step aside. I do know where a 2nd copy is, which would likely be harder to get than this one (I'd be trading good stuff for it), but there is a price at which I'd stop bidding on this one and move on to my back-up choice. So please, anyone interested should bid freely. If I were the seller I wouldn't want to think anyone was interfering with the free markets. I do know what you mean, though, about the Little Giants not doing it for you. Unlike the detective or superhero Centaurs, these books are much more of an acquired taste. But they're nifty and they're rare, and as a completionist I've pretty much got to strike when one comes up at auction.
  20. In the same vein, here are some of the Little Giants I already own. They're a fun cul-de-sac on the road to modern comic development:
  21. I'd already had it tracked. I imagine I'll be winning that one, but if someone wants to make it expensive for me they may be my guest. I fully support the free markets.
  22. Great books! Nice to see that, despite being in the middle of a gunfight, the bad guy had time to write a threatening note to the sheriff, artistically sign it with a skull & crossbones, and throw it into the sign above him. It's little things like this that really enhance a bad guy's reputation.
  23. Awesome!! I especially like this one. It's not often you see penguins being used for paramilitary purposes.
