  1. Mine too and I haven't met him. Pretty much unfairly maligned in this thread imho. I don't think Dormian was maligned at all in the thread. He asked for people's opinions and received them. That's kinda how it works on the internet.
  2. Outside of rusty, rustier and rustiest, I'm not sure. I have had some success in cleaning and/or replacing staples in SA and older books using vintage staples. Even if there is is some migration to the pages it is a worthwhile effort, as "rust never sleeps."
  3. Rust is as rust does - it's rust. Too tight deal with, without removing them first.
  4. If you beat me, I will bow to your prowess.
  5. You'll need to enlighten me on that one . . .
  6. Not the first book, just every book thereafter. Limited to using the proceeds from the first book. There has to be a way to "level the playing field." Someone might buy a spec book get it graded by CGC and sit pat. Others, will have their own methods, ideas , whatever. It's a constructive contest - not just, I'll keep selling my 30 copies of Thor 390 until I kick your jazz.
  7. I am thinking of running a different kind of contest on the Boards here. The purpose of this thread is to get suggestions on the RULES of the contest before it begins. Yes, there will be prizes, but the ULTIMATE prize here is, of course, SWAGGER! Many here maintain they have the right model for both selling and selecting books. You get to choose one copper age book. Over the course of one year, you can buy and sell as many copies of that book as possible, as long as you buy and sell them on FEEBAY, and use only the NET proceeds from the prior sales to purchase another copy (or multiple copies) of the SAME book. I think that CA books have matured enough in the marketplace for this contest to measure how WELL you SELL. Each player at the end of the contest will present the winner with one of their remaining copies of the book they chose to sell. Obviously, rules have to be STRICTLY followed. This may be too difficult for many to follow, but you will be HONOR-BOUND by these rules (and SEVERELY chastised if you knowingly break them). Any disobeyance of the rules will be looked upon as a disqualification. Propose rules are as follows: Contest begins June 1, 2019 and ends May 31, 2020. Start with ANY SINGLE COPY Copper Age (indicia/cover date 1984 - 1994) book. There are no limitations or rules which apply to your starting book of choice but one - IT HAS TO BE RAW/UNGRADED at the time of selection. You MAY CHOOSE to have it graded for resale immediately after selection, but all such books must show a submission date of AFTER June 1, 2019. Post your progress in the contest thread. WHOMEVER ends up with the highest net proceeds on May 31, 2020 . . . WINS! There is NO CREDIT given for any leftover copies (So it will possibly spur many INSANE auctions at the very end.) I welcome your thoughts and discussion on the Rules. (I am home sick today, and may have glaringly made some errors in the above in terms of mechanics.) Please vet the above to the best of your abilities. I'm not opposed to any suggestions from LEFT FIELD. cheers, divad
  8. Recently pulled this one out of the tomato boxes . . .
  9. exactly. At least clean his garage out for him.
  10. Why you have to pontificate on every thread and crave constant approval is beyond me . . . no one but you will ever know in this lifetime. Try and exercise some self-control.
  11. Usually, you say it's the other way around. I think we're from different planetoids. And you know what? I don't care to visit yours Ever.
  12. The opportunity (both before and after) was significantly diminished once you started to cherry pick the collection. You may not think it was cherry picking, but it was, You chose what you thought were the best 11 of 60 long boxes.
  13. The examples show that the books are mostly HG - like the donut has said the amount of money you are leaving on the table is staggering. Don't listen to the naysayers (except October).
  14. Life is not about money. "Lucrative ventures" are not the end all. Take some time off, get married, have kids, get in touch with yourself - experience life itself.
  15. This, as long as the collector was sufficiently OCD.
  16. Call me crazy, but . . . I actually do it because I love it!
  17. As the Donut says, as close to free money as you'll ever see on these boards. Good luck!
  18. No argument there. North Florida . . . I was right, perhaps he started in Jersey?
  19. Btw, "Location: On the shore" you must live on the east coast, as no one on the left calls it a "shore."
