You had a list somewhere of the full-chromium covers . . . not really that many issues if I recall.

Unfortunately, there is no first-hand story as the collector died relatively young from cancer. He was an avid buyer of independent labels mostly, The books were boxed as he bought them with no order as to title, publisher or issue number, and appear to range in date from 1988 through 1996. The funny thing is, he kept all of his cash register receipts in the boxes - the guy would drop $150-200 a week on books! It's been a lot of work to sort through so far - somewhere around 45 small boxes and a few longs - about 5,000 books. I am now officially a Valiant collector!

Agreed, but the continued misuse of "cameo" really gets my goat. P.s. - Just bought a complete HG collection of Valiants . . . (including a glossy Rai 0 and a very sweet Solar 10, along with all of the other keys.)

I like them both . . . Ordway's Supe was sooooooooooooo old school. (i.e., "truth, justice and the American way) Byrne's was always getting his butt kicked.

Seriously, if you're selling it, just set the price you want and sell it for that. I had a whole series of early Marvels (including AF #15) where the OO had covered the CCA seal with his own stamps . . . what a freakin' shame that was.

Or tear the book in half, have both halves slabbed, and then sell them.

That's a good point, and I don't know offhand how many months there were between NM98 and X1 but I don't think it's too many, so there must have been plans for him. I just recall reading it and it didn't seem like a big character rollout. He just seemed, in that issue, like a mercenary who could have not showed up again. I just didn't get that "big plans for this guy" feel from the story. Well, that was followed by the cover story app on XF 2.

Yup, and if the market is organically strong, one underpriced copy will be sucked up immediately, with no real effect on prevailing price. No one's ever accused me of undercutting the market . . .
