  1. I never stated that the price over the past year was $2300. That is an average of just black labels that are in my sample over about 2.5 years. I also stated that the average white label sold for $2,032.71, which, if you look at GPA, is really close the total average over the same period of time ($2,057.23). I never claimed to be looking at prices over the course of one year. I do not think you understand what "sampling" means. By it's very definition, a sample is incomplete when compared to the population. The very reason why this thread exists is because we cannot know the population of black labels - not because CGC doesn't know (you assume they do not care), but because every strata in the line of production of the comic never thought to keep track of it. "No one knows that because CGC does not mention it on their labels." Please realize that, even if CGC had kept track of label colors from day one, we wouldn't know the true population of black and white labels, because the census would still only be a sample of the population, as not every comic gets graded. I suggest that you read up a little on statistics and sampling. While not perfect and not 100% representative of the population, it does give us a very close idea of it. The prices I posted are from GPA. While not representative of all markets, it does represent what is arguably the most active market (eBay). Prices fluctuate and change over time I will agree that prices, as a whole, have gone down a bit over the past few years. That is why I included the averages over each year so people can look at trends. However, unless a book a swinging wildly in price, then you need to look beyond just the current data to find a long running average, to gather more data points. The current sales do not always tell the whole story, especially when you can only look a back a month or two like eBay. Providing dozens of data points is not comparable to providing over a hundred of data points. The logic you have used to draw your conclusions is fallible. You should obtain a better understanding of how sampling and statistics work before you can throw out words like "flawed and misleading".
  2. J I am working right now, and do not have the time to respond in full. However, you have not read my comments correctly and thus some of your comments are flawed. Please re-read what I have written and then reconsider the points you have made. And honestly, I made no analysis. I simply compiled the data is that is available for everyone to see.
  3. Please do. See what I see. -J. Long story short: there is a price difference in White Label sales vs Black Label sales for 9.8 copies. Average of Prices White $2,032.71 Black $2,337.67 Long story: using the confirmed label color status from the first page of this thread (I didn't want to take the time to confirm more label colors), I looked up the corresponding sales prices from GPA between 2013 and now. I used this time period because that is when the prices stabilized around $2k. Here is the pricing data. There were 113 data points used from the 241 that were available in GPA: Some additional information: Year 2013 Labels Average of Price white $2,088.91 black $2,389.64 Grand Total $2,132.43 Year 2014 Labels Average of Price white $1,918.92 black $2,194.75 Grand Total $1,955.70 Year 2015 Labels Average of Price white $1,990.44 black $1,985.33 Grand Total $1,989.17 Months Oct - Mar (while show is on air) Labels Average of Price white $2,007.42 black $2,196.00 Grand Total $2,032.57 Month Apr - Sep (while show is off air) Labels Average of Price white $2,066.65 black $2,345.30 Grand Total $2,114.69
  4. Understatement of the year coming from James. Said while he plays on his WD pinball machine. I represent that statement..... Is there a WD pinball machine?!
  5. I just counted it...whether it be in lots or individual sales there are 35 copies of WD #1 for sale on the Bay...29 are white labels and 6 are black. Then looked at CL and between Sales Pending and available it's 7 white and 1 black. To suggest there are thousands of black labels to select from, is absolute and complete BS. The print run is just over 7k, and I would hazard a guess there isn't even 1,000 black labels still in existence. When all I used to do was buy and sell WD comics, every single one of my black labels sold for more than its white label counterpart. And a black label was always the version most requested. Jim Kirkman himself has gone on the record specifically disputing your "guess" and your personal and anecdotal experience is in direct contrast with what we see in publicly available sales data. (thumbs u -J. This is true. Kirkman has publicly said that he thought that there were less white labels than black labels. However, ask anyone who has sold enough copies of Walking Dead #1 to have significant sample size (more than 20 or 30) and they will tell you what Jim just did: white lables outnumber the black labels. This is not just confirmation bias, as my analysis provides empirical evidence. As far as price difference - you cant just look at what is on sale in eBay right now. You would have to look at trending data. When I first considered doing this, I did not think it would be possible because the prices were swinging around to wildly. However, I think the baseline has settled around $2k, and you can probably do an analysis now. Anecdotally, most sellers will tell you black labels fetch a premium. I tend to believe people who have sold a significant amount of them (like Jim). I've only sold on black label and one white label, and I was able to sell my black label for 50% more than the baseline. I think that is an extreme example, though. I also sold it during the middle of the season, which is a better time to sell WD than in the middle of the summer.
  6. I'm pretty confident that there are not thousands (slabbed or raw) of black labels available.
  7. I took a quick look at completed sales, and you are correct. However, WD sales are usually depressed during the summer. (HINT: If you are looking to buy WD slabs, the summer is the best time to do so). Sales that occur when WD is on air (Oct - Dec, Feb - end of season) have been a different story.
  8. No I changed jobs about a year ago, and my time allotted to do things like this has gone severely down! That being said, keeping track of the prices of black vs white labels is pretty tough. I can say, from personal experience, that I sold my black label at a very nice premium to GPA.
  9. Preview seems interesting. Reminds me a lot of Constantine.
  10. The only #2 9.8 that just popped up on the bay, the guy wants $2000obo. So I sent $1000, he counters with $1800. He must be so high to think I'd pay that. That's #1 prices. No thanks. I feel that I'd have to wait till the show ends to buy one. 9.6's are looking sweeter and sweeter every second. If you think 2 9.8s are hard, try finding a second print 9.8.
  11. I was just thinking the other day that Starman would be a better fit for a TV series than a movie. I hope this does well, as Starman is one of my favorite series. I wonder how James Robinson feels about this news.
  12. After seeing his sparing scene in Pacific Rim, I thought Charlie Hunnam would be good for the role.
  13. Had another great transaction with Revat. He paid quickly and let me know when it arrived. Thanks!
  14. Had another great transaction with retro. He paid very quickly and let me know when they arrived. Thanks!
  15. Wow, all of those statues look great! I really like the Samaritan, Starman, Hawkeye, and Iron Fist. Those are some of my favorite characters.
  16. I agree about who the star characters are. I especially loved the arc about Milo. I guess I had forgotten about him wanting his own house - that is certainly interesting for the show.
  17. Whenever I think of Captain Marvel, I think about him smiling. For me, whoever plays him has to have a great smile. I think Jake Gyllenhaal has that, but isn't big enough (muscle wise).
  18. I completely disagree. I think if you have a different suitcase proposition in each episode while slowly introducing some of the Minutemen mythos audiences would be hooked early. Yes, I think that's how you'd have to do it. Let's face it, the overall plot of the books is way too much for TV. I would anchor the TV series to the suitcase proposition too - gives more scope for new mini stories, with the Minutemen in the background, the focus being on their hidden identities and then, once reactivated, their relationships with each other. There'd be a lot of potential for someone with a cameo role in episode X appearing as a Minuteman in episode X+5 for example. Honestly I think you'd probably have to dump the whole Graves and some of the Minutemen rebelling against the Trust arc altogether to make it work. I think you could still have the rebellion and it work. In fact, you need the rebellion; otherwise, what's the point of the story. The rebellion is the story; isn't 100 Bullets about the revenge of the minute men? I imagine it working kind of like Fringe: we get the weird-case-of-the-week shows (in this case, suitcase-proposition-of-the-week shows), with the background being that Graves has an agenda to reunite his minute men to get revenge on the trust. Every once in a while, a minute man gets reactivated. Overtime, we get less of the suitcase-proposition-of-the-week shows and the focus shifts to the revenge as the show ends.
