Decades later that same graphic would become a teaser preview for board sales thread.

What does CGC consider Restoration that should NOT be
rjpb replied to Chicago Boy's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
While trimming isn't restoration in the traditional sense, I have no problem with it being lumped in as it is either done to "improve" the appearance of a book (the goal of most restoration), or in some cases to give a uniform edge in a bound volume. I think tape and glue should be treated the same, whether you want to call them restoration, conservation, or just make note of them. -
CATRICK'S QUARNUCOPIA IS CLOSED!
rjpb replied to catrick339's topic in Golden/Silver/Bronze Age Only
Pretty ragged, but the best part of the cover is still there. Well worth the $20. -
in thread rules. Returnable in 14 days for any reason. $7 shipping in US, free over $500. At cost elsewhere. No HOSers or probies. Paypal, zelle, check or M.O. Need a couple weeks to pay? - no problem, I'll hold the books for you. Unfortunately I must collect sales tax from buyers in California. I will invoice when I have zip code. I will discount tax against shipping costs. No sales tax on sales outside California.

Please grade this Startling Comics #52 (Canadian)!
rjpb replied to Point Five's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
It looks structurally sound with decent PQ, but the general light wear and dirt along with multiple creases caps this around a 4.0 for me. Potentially improvable with a dry clean and press. -
Grade is In -- PGM Tessie The Typist 21
rjpb replied to buddy2's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
While I can see why the board opinions came in a bit lower than CGC on a couple of the other books posted, this one looks pretty much a textbook 5.0 to me. I'm not sure where the 3.5s were coming from. -
Crappy copy of Avengers 1... but just how crappy?
rjpb replied to Gman65NJ's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Technically a .5, as clipped art effects readability, but could be called a Qualified 2.0. A decent candidate for marrying the wrap from a coverless copy. It would still be a Q 2.0, but at least a complete book. -
Great eye-appeal on that MM 44!

I'm sorry for your loss, Cat. Condolences to you and your loved ones. -
Do you read the text stories in your GA books?
rjpb replied to Raze's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
I've read hundreds of Golden Age books, but not a single text story. -

$210 on America's Best -
koenig9806 Asked for extra time to pay for an item, but never did by agreed date. I checked my records and they had pulled something similar two and a half years ago, claiming money troubles after delaying payment for a couple of weeks. Lots of positive buyer feedback, so maybe they aren't always a flake, but one chance for redemption is enough.

CATRICK'S QUARNUICOPIA IS CLOSED.

Nice selection of relatively inexpensive books. I seemed to have always logged on several hours after they were listed though -
That particular cover is a bit of a head scratcher. If you look at some of the other Atlas covers for which their seems to be changes made when comparing U.K. and U.S. usage, it generally seems that that while tame compared to pre-code covers, some covers were toned down a bit due to being a bit too menacing. In this case it's a bare beastly arm covered with a sleeve, and the head redrawn so it looks less terrified, though the original hardly looks "scarier" than a number of other post code Atlas covers. It's unclear as to whether these changes were made due to CCA complaints or anticipating possible trouble. I recall an article or thread showing a number of examples but couldn't find it, but here is one other example. https://tombrevoort.com/2020/07/03/your-comics-code-at-work-mystery-tales-38/
