SPICY DETECTIVE Dec. 1936 VG cream pages with slight corner chipping at right edge some pages, and along right edge of a few. Overall, pages are supple enough to read, but do have slight brittleness at right edge. Appearance is nicer than assigned grade, but down graded due to PQ. Spine complete and unfaded. $200 $185

Decades later that same graphic would become a teaser preview for board sales thread.

What does CGC consider Restoration that should NOT be
rjpb replied to Chicago Boy's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
While trimming isn't restoration in the traditional sense, I have no problem with it being lumped in as it is either done to "improve" the appearance of a book (the goal of most restoration), or in some cases to give a uniform edge in a bound volume. I think tape and glue should be treated the same, whether you want to call them restoration, conservation, or just make note of them. -
CATRICK'S QUARNUCOPIA IS CLOSED!
rjpb replied to catrick339's topic in Golden/Silver/Bronze Age Only
Pretty ragged, but the best part of the cover is still there. Well worth the $20. -
in thread rules. Returnable in 14 days for any reason. $7 shipping in US, free over $500. At cost elsewhere. No HOSers or probies. Paypal, zelle, check or M.O. Need a couple weeks to pay? - no problem, I'll hold the books for you. Unfortunately I must collect sales tax from buyers in California. I will invoice when I have zip code. I will discount tax against shipping costs. No sales tax on sales outside California.

Please grade this Startling Comics #52 (Canadian)!
rjpb replied to Point Five's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
It looks structurally sound with decent PQ, but the general light wear and dirt along with multiple creases caps this around a 4.0 for me. Potentially improvable with a dry clean and press. -
Grade is In -- PGM Tessie The Typist 21
rjpb replied to buddy2's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
While I can see why the board opinions came in a bit lower than CGC on a couple of the other books posted, this one looks pretty much a textbook 5.0 to me. I'm not sure where the 3.5s were coming from. -
Crappy copy of Avengers 1... but just how crappy?
rjpb replied to Gman65NJ's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Technically a .5, as clipped art effects readability, but could be called a Qualified 2.0. A decent candidate for marrying the wrap from a coverless copy. It would still be a Q 2.0, but at least a complete book.
