  1. Silver - Congrats on the HT #12 - sweeeet copy! MUCH nicer than the one you didn't get a couple months back.
  2. Nice eye-appeal for a 2.5. A raw copy with a big chunk out of the cover recently sold on ebay for $480 . On the other hand I couldn't sell a raw VG with a detached centerfold for $675 ( I guess I'll keep it), so it's tough to guage what the book's FMV is - though with many Timely books, a low grade copy will often sell for a higher percentage over guide than a mid-grade copy, as there seems to be a bigger demand for affordable copies than there are for nicer ones, especially if low grade copies are over $400.
  3. If you got it for around the OPG 2.0 price - you did well - that's a book on my want list.
  4. Thanks to Chris Beyonder for a quick and easy transaction - I'm glad to hear it got there all right. A big to buying and selling on the boards in general.
  5. It is unlikely in the extreme that Daisy Mae was modled after Veronica Lake, unless Capp knew her when she was a 14 year-old. Daisy Mae appears in 1934, Veronica's first screen appearance is 1939 - in a bit part, and she doesn't really become a star until 1942. But, otherwise - excellent posts, Scrooge.
  6. Congrats! My fave GA Superhero cover of all time! If there is any book you won't regret paying "too much" for - that's it!
  7. The obvious flaw in this line of thinking was that the USSR destroyed it's own economy in no small part trying to accomplish such a goal. The Chinese Communists, on the other hand, seemed to have figured out a way to undermine US economic dominance while making money on the deal. Sure they had to abandon much of the ideology of communism in the process, but ideology is little more than a means to power for much of the world anyway.
  8. Point Five I agree with you completely - #10 is the only Suspense I own and it is my favorite Cole cover of the run. While it doesn't have an iconic Devil or a macabre spider, it's color and composition put it above his other covers in the run IMHO. I too don't know why it isn't considered a classic among Cole fans, but #8, #9 and #11 seem to get the attention.
  9. Nice books Donut, the red on that Rangers #29 is amazing for a Fiction House. the other Rangers look strangely familiar
  10. I got it a couple of years ago on ebay - I don't remember who from exactly - one of the usual GA sellers.
  11. Realistic grails (in no particular order): Captain America #46 Phantom Lady #17 Headline #8 Adventure #79 Exciting #28 Can't afford Grails (in solid mid-grade or better): Suspense #3 Detective #31 Action #2 I suppose if I had millions at my disposal, I might buy copies of the big GA keys just because I could - but they don't appeal to me as much as other stuff - though if I had the money, runs of Captain America, Marvel Mystery, Cat-Man and hero-cover Adventures would be pretty cool!
  12. I'll probably be waiting a while anyway - as it's the kind of book I buy when i stumble across it without actually seeking them out - but when I get back into buying on a regular basis I'll be looking for lower priced Atom Age books that I enjoy reading. In the past I was more cover oriented, and still have a soft spot for what I consider "classic " covers, but finding books I enjoy reading for $10-$50 is what appeals to me the most these days. Fortunately I enjoy esoteric books more than super-hero titles, so there is alot out there.
  13. If you upgrade let me know - sharp looking mid-grade I like, and the RQ Sale art in those Combat Casey books is a riot.
  14. I'm becoming wistful already - when I start buying again - I think I'll be looking for a raw VGish YM #24 (among a few score other books). Good luck with the rest of your Atlas super-hero run IM!
  15. Kudos to Iron Maniac for making the sale easy. Enjoy!
