  1. Nice - I'm jealous - seems like a decent price if the book looks as good as the scan - no kidding about the rich colors! Congrats!
  2. "under the radar" and Black Cat 50 is a pretty unlikely combination.
  3. You guys had to pay sales tax on comics? Ohio had sales tax on comics - fortunately only 4% when I was a kid - so my 25¢ allowance afforded me two 12¢ comics plus tax. When they went to 15¢ I was screwed - although the corner store sold second hand comics for a nickel apiece - pretty ratty for the most part - but when i was 10 I didn't care that much about condition. It was a couple years before I really started buying back issues at cons - once I was flush with that paper route money.
  4. wow - the post office has some pretty cool books - i should go check my branch.
  5. Not that obsure to Atom age collectors! Long considered a classic post-war Schomburg cover - nice copy!
  6. I've always thought that was a pretty cool hybrid genre cover as well - how is the story - any gruesome bits.
  7. Bravo The Cap - Red Skull story is a classic - with a definite horror angle. How much was it if we may ask?
  8. Congrats Deathlok - are these your first GA books ever? How are the stories in the Super Duck - the title was a favorite of R. Crumb when he was a kid and I've wondered if they have any charm.
  9. Wow! I only just checked out this thread as I'm not much of a platinum age fan, but that copy is amazing for a comic book published in 1901
  10. Nice book! I love the "featuring your popular favorites" - I can't think of a more obscure line up featured on a GA book - Timely or otherwise.
  11. kudos to mrwoogieman for a great ebay price on the JSA Strange Adventures mini and for digging up a sharp copper age indy I was looking for. The books were packed as if they were worth more than a few dollars - so a big
  12. I think it would be worth slabbing for resale. If the back cover is as nice as the front it should grade at least 6.0- probably higher - the rounded corners being the drawback - it also looks like it has some poorly cut interior pages with a ragged edge that sticks over the top - not all that rare with GA books I guess - i don't know how CGC considers the inevitable tears on those when grading. My feeling is that any GA book that grades better than VG and is worth at least $400 probably benifits from resto detection if nothing else when being slabbed and will make buyers that much more comfortable throwing out a bid.
  13. I would be toasted to find a copy that looks like that at a price like that. Well done!
  14. No, he's the Phantom Stranger..er...MysteriousTraveler....er..um..The Witness...uh..A Man called Fate.
  15. You can always post it in the pre-code horror thread! - one of my favorite Atlas covers BTW - A lower grade copy was one of my earliest Atlas purchases after seeing the cover in the Gerber guide - I always figured it should be breakout book, but I see it still lists for less than issues 3 and 4 in the OS -
  16. Nice copy of Atomic Attack #5, Adam. Ya gotta love the a-bomb covers! The story is some goofy fun as well IIRC. Here is a recent ebay impulse buy. I was browsing the war stuff, and this caught my eye - great Maneely cover- and though no condition was listed, the scan was big and the book looked in pretty decent shape, even with a little rust on the staples. Plus, even though Overstreet tends to oversell the violent aspect in Robert Q. Sale's art, I do dig his style - kind of has an "underground" feel to it. Happy to report the book survived being shipped in a flimsy mailer with just two pieces of thin cardboard , and has great color and ow/w pages - with 2 Sale storys
  17. The Watcher could EAT Galactus and poo him out without the slightest bit of bowel irritation - The Watcher is strongest of all!
  18. Nice looking 7.0 - doesn't appear to be a GA curve on that copy.
  19. Nice book - it may be your first Cole cover, but I'd be surprised if it were to be your last.
  20. While not as sweet a pick-up as Banner's Cap #46 - I recently aquired this All-Winners #14 on ebay from board member Dmac538. Graded by CGC as a 2.5 due to a loose cover, 1st 2 wraps and centerfold - It has great eye-appeal. I'm always happy when I can pick up a Timely with a Schomburg war cover that looks this nice for $200 including shipping (especially one with Cap on the cover).
