  1. Auction ending this Sunday!!!! Lots of great books up for grabs in auction still and a few BIN's as well, like this great Goddess Inc. #3, 1/100 Hot Flips/NYCC exclusive book!
  2. Saved this from an antique dealer. No missing pages or cut outs. Some slight upper and lower left corner abrasions that might not show up in scans. Some minor 'impact' creases lower right corner. Other than that, nothing "noteworthy" that does not show up in the scan. Thanks!!!!
  3. I like to think so, otherwise, what is the point It does feel a bit daunting with increasing prices of AF #15 and ASM #1 (more of the AF #15 obviously, I could buy a decent ASM #1 right now though) I am selling more of my non ASM keys to help get me towards knocking off one of the big two and not really buying books for personal collection unless they are a good deal that I happen to stumble across, like the ASM #36... My current personal "Top 5" (in order) are: AF #15, ASM #1, ASM #3 , ASM #9, and my fifth spot is kind of "wide open"...Maybe ASM Annual #1 at the moment...
  4. This is what I have left to go still... Amazing Fantasy #15 Amazing Spider-Man #1 - #5, #7 - #12, #16 - #19, #21 - #24, #27, #29, #30, #32, #33, #35, #37, #38 Total ASM issues to go: 26 Like I said, I have been saving and not really making any purchases...
  5. Finally got around to scanning the book I purchased from Andy. No new updates. Still saving. I have upped my sales game though. While I am not selling any of my ASM's, I am letting go of some of my non-ASM keys. I have sold about $1,000 USD worth in past week and a half.
  6. My homemade job is all out of wood, sturdy but heavy. It is also not all that large either...I would like to have a bigger "wall" but the legs are adjustable and it has a "lip" at the bottom to help books stay in place. Again sturdy but heavy as heck LOL. If I was travelling further or doing bigger shows, I would need a more portable (and larger) wall book display but for now, it serves its purpose. Just over a week until my next and last show of 2017...Sadly, I saw the organizer put out a notice on FB for "hopeful vendors" to pay up...Also, the advertising seems weak...Apparently they are listing a radio station as a sponsor but I have not heard anything (then again, I don't listen to local radio) and other advertising seems really weak...Maybe I am just not hearing it but will be doing my own advertising via social media anyway so I am very curious to see how the turnout will actually be... Also, I may try the FB paid boost post again but the one annoying thing about it? Now EVERY TIME I post something on my "business" page, I am getting ANNOYING messages from FB asking if I want to boost the post.
  7. I thought the listing was very humorous! MY Grade 8.5 IF he hates CGC so much, why does he bother to have them graded? Why bother with that wall o text? Too funny.
  8. Agree. I may have missed it but what do you really like? Personally, I would not buy any book that was missing the MVS, centrefold, etc. I would also avoid a restored book "just to have a copy" unless you are into some GA/SA key that would be completely unaffordable otherwise.
  9. I came across this listing...Just going to leave this here... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-SPIDERMAN-1-WHITE-PAGES-BEAUTIFUL-My-grade-8-5-CGC-3-5-color-scrape/332430800611?hash=item4d666b76e3:g:JoAAAOSwcqBZu673 "Condition is almost perfect and nearly flawless expect for few imperfections! which is normal for a book 50 years old ! When the publishers sticker was reduced it left a 1/4 color scrape on leg and Tiny tan spots left of the scrape ! Otherwise book looks brand new ! not negotiating price ! If your looking for a high grade book at a low grade price then you've found it ! I grade it 8.5 & Cgc grades is at 3.5 because they have no idea how to grade this beautiful unrestored copy with a "color scrape" and WHITE PAGES with a gleaming BRIGHT COVER! unbelievable beautiful first issue Origin! And it's only $10800.00 not $259,999.00 Original Publishers File Copy with White pages and almost flawless This first issue of Amazing Spiderman .This one is A beautiful bright white pages copy! if not for Cgc grading it 3.5 because of a color scrape on Spiderman leg otherwise it would be a $95,000 copy! it's one of best copy's I've seen! No marvel chipping squared corners! no dog eared corners (I've seen Cgc 8.0 with dog eared corners) this issue has-no creased corners. Looks like the books has bearly been read! If not for the scrap on Spiderman left leg the book could possibly be a 8.5! This book was a publishers file copy with a sticker stuck on the cover! When the sticker was removed it removed two tiny specks of blue color! Otherwise this would be in the $85,000 to $95,000 value range! Cgc has no idea how to classify this book ~grade wise! Imagine a near mint file copy of action one but it has a eraser size scrape off supermans leg! In my opinion it would still be a near mint book and no way would it be Graded as a CGC good! The back cover is just as nice as the front ! I posted a amazing fantasy 15 in 8.0 to show it is not as nice condition as my Amazing Spiderman 1 / Cgc 3.5 except for the color scrape ! The values of issues just keeps going up! It's AMAZING! Amazing fantasy 15 spidermsn issue under different title hits $261k this week and action comics one break $2 million dollars ! This First issue and origin of spidermsn should be equal in value too these soon! Very soon".
  10. This thread is going the way of the AF #15 Club thread...Sad!
  11. At the last Gateway show I did, I was stuck in a centre aisle and the people behind me kept bumping the board. Made me super nervous. I politely and strongly requested a space along the wall this year. ...Totally off topic but if anyone likes Zenescope I have a 60+ exclusive cover auction up from that collection I bought a few months ago...Just sayin'
  12. I have no real knowledge of the card market or Beckett. I also have no idea how Voldy ownership was structured, but do we really know they (Voldy) were "folding" as in "going under" OR were they (those who own a majority stake) just made an offer they couldn't refuse and/or "bought out" by a bigger company wanting a piece of the comic grading market to grow their own business? I am trying to understand how them being bought out is really a big deal...Do these things not happen in business all the time? How is it really any "different" than how CGC would be "structured" under the Certified Collectibles Group umbrella? Not trying to stir the pot, just curious...
  13. I really think 7.0 range books can be a really nice sweet spot between price and presentation. Gorgeous copy. Congrats!
  14. Damn. Just bad luck or are they cramming booths too close? Little bit of both? That also seems like a pretty significant drop in attendance even with a down turn...
  15. THAT is looooooowwwwwwww What an individual_without_enough_empathy - I guess no security cams? I have been to a few antique shows and always hear something breaking, the sound of slabs hitting the concrete or whatever...Damn... I feel bad this happened to you, truly. Besides this incident, had the show been decent in the past?
  16. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, ok, I have to ask, what the heck did the clumsy person say???? Sorry to hear that damage was not at least mitigated by being a good show...Ugh...I don't know if I could keep my cool in that situation...

  18. I can "get" not doing shows but if I ran a store, I would to at least "fly the flag" at a local show. A store that does not buy collections seems like a huge missed opportunity to me though.
  19. Thanks! I have not heard the "they will not be back" from customers for this show yet, but some vendors did bow out (for various reasons). I do get lots of compliments on my booth, it is a nice feeling to have your hard work at least acknowledged. There were two other comic vendors there previously. One said he did ok. The other guy, who I also know of, did not cover his costs to even set up. There are several reasons for that beyond "growing pains" for a first time show. I did very well by my standards for a show this size (hence why I am back) so him not making his costs back is more about him than the show itself. I think these are the reasons why there are so few other comic vendors. A) there are not just a lot of us in this area and B) it would not really be "worth" the time for larger dealers or anyone really more than a couple hours away to make the trip for such a small show at this point in time. Maybe the whole "if you build it they will come" philosophy might work but who knows...For whatever reason, my LCS does not "do" shows. The other LCS that is about 1.5 hours away is moving more into the video game side of things and they have obviously made a determination that it is not worth it or they don't know about it. I have a "minimum standard' in my mind and I will keep doing these small local shows so long as I continue to at least hit that minimum or people get sick of seeing me
  20. That is frustrating. I never understand why people have trouble with basic communication. Due to set up issues last year, I spoke in advance with organizers so I am was assured of my spot but as I am sure you know, you kind of have to be prepared to "roll" with whatever ends up happening. The only show I have had that I have ever been able to set up the day before is Graphic Con in Sudbury, ON. All the other ones, yep, a few hours before the show. Good luck with your show! Love to hear a report and see some pics!
  21. Next and Final Show for 2017: North Bay Gateway Fan Ex - Sunday November 12, 2017 This is another show right in my home town. Last years show was the first attempt of a local "convention style" show. Based on the difficulties last year, I have been assured that I have a space along the wall (not in a centre aisle) and as costs were cheap, I decided to pay for a double wide booth (essentially two booth spaces), so 20 x 10. I plan on having a mix of boxes and books (particularly sets) laid flat and displayed on at least part of the table. I don't have time to restock my $2 boxes or sets unfortunately (taking down dying maple in backyard on Saturday, taking dock out at cabin on Sunday and next weekend taking out other dock at my parents and likely the boat) but I should still have enough variety and I am only taking "mainstream" stuff and that basically just has to be loaded. I like that now I am pretty much at the point where I can just load boxes. I still have more stuff to price but it is nice to just have to only double check prices once in awhile and being ready to go/set up pretty easily. I know some vendors did not do very well at the last show and are not returning. There were problems with advertising, signage, etc. so it will be interesting to see how those problems have been addressed. The organizers are very pleasant though and I think some of these issues, hopefully, will improve over time. I am pretty sure I will be the only comic guy this year. I did well enough last year, mostly thanks to regulars who knew I would be there and the "casual buys" were a nice bump. I cannot understate how important it is that my local regular customers come out and support me with these shows in my home town. Without them, it is likely they would not be "worth" doing. I know this year they are planning on a cosplay contest, a few tournaments for things like Magic, Pokemon and there will be a Wii tournament of some sort. We shall see!
  22. The people are kind of known "wheeler dealers" and refused to move even after I politely pointed out the flaws. Had the welds been fine, held silver age books and the spray paint not been so bad, I would have paid the $250 but now way it was worth that with all its problems, at least not to me. I appreciate the advice on checking for the welds. I checked all of them and the loose weld was not obvious until you moved/touched it and it was one of the last things I checked.
