  1. Timed payments on the ASM #300...It helps...Besides' tis the season for giving, even if it is to yourself.
  2. Yep! Peter and Doug from Paradise Comics in Toronto are great to deal with. The ASM #258 came from Pendragon Comics in Toronto as well. Oh, and I may as well show this too...I also picked this up on the weekend from Paradise as well in addition to the ASM #300...
  3. PART 2 Not all are new this week but I just picked up a couple recently (Web of Spider-Man #1 from board member Bosco685 - A great guy to deal with) and the ASM #300 from Paradise Comics this weekend to complete my themed "Birth of Venom" collection. I don't have a scanner so apologies for the less than perfect pics. All CGC 9.6 and all white pages.

  5. How can he say pressing is controversial, I thought most people don't know about it and those that do don't care Yes, people do not consider pressing restoration. And if they are unaware of the process, once explained, they do not care. But these crazy irrational types who do not like it, they are just in the head. I PREFER a book that has not been pressed over a pressed book. But we can manufacture hg books for profit and should do so. Why leave cash on the table right? It worked well for the BA market, look how healthy those 9.4's are with all the "new" 9.8's. 100% agree, all is good in the comic book world. The biggest question in my mind is what "new" process are people doing to books to help push the grade even higher while maintaining the blue status. So far we know. 1. Pressing 2. Dry cleaning 3. Micro trimming (when done properly) 4. Disassembly and reassembly. 5. Staple replacement (when done properly with vintage staples) 6. Reattachment with tape Well, I just found out my ASM #238 (1st Hobgoblin) received a 9.4...I thought it was for sure a 9.6...Maybe I will try my hand at the pressing game just to see what all the fuss is about...Once I find out what the actual defects are of course...
  6. Interesting article up at BLEEDING COOL... http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/11/22/cgc-buys-classic-restorations-in-a-9-8-graded-conflict-of-interests/
  7. I emailed CGC and found out my books that were received by CGC on 7/5 (Modern, no fast track) were graded about a week ago! Did not too bad on my second sub either...If it all holds the same, one I was hoping for 9.6, came back 9.4, one I thought a 9.0 came back a 9.2 and the last one came back a 9.6 and I was surprised, thought that one would be the 9.4 Apparently it will be another two weeks before they ship.
  8. Man I want an X-men 14! Nice score! What is the grade on the ASM #19???
  9. Just buy another Encapsulation Machine, add a 2nd shift, and hire more graders. To train the new graders should be done on 2nd shift. That's a good idea. I'm assuming you will be putting up the $ to purchase the machine, and hire a 2nd shift, and hire more graders? That's very nice of you. CGC is a business, not a non-profit. They have to balance profits with keeping their customer base happy. With the amount of submissions they are getting, it doesn't seem like the turnaround time is hurting their business. ...Yet
  10. Modern - Just started grading moderns first week of July
  11. This is what I got today...October 29th, 2012... "we just started grading comics from the first week of July"
  12. Just arrived today! I have been looking for this book in a decent grade for awhile now. Now have ASM #59 to present in a perfect run (not all CGC copies and excluding variants and annuals) with a few below #59 (such as #56, #50, #46, #39)...The working back continues...
  13. Yeah, the splash effect is cool but DEFINITELY taking "inspiration" from other artists work...A quick search of Alex Ross Superman... http://www.returnofthechampions.com/2007MFL/img/logos/Superman%20Alex%20Ross%207.jpg You even see he is holding the glasses in both...I guess I'd like to see a "after (insert original artist name here)" in the paintings as they are clearly derivative of others work. I think it is just the 'proper' thing to do... After seeing that one piece, I'm surprised Marvel hasn't partnered up with Anderson "The Spider" Silva for him to come out to the Octagon in a Spidey suit... By they way, awesome Bat books in your sig!
  14. Those paintings are pretty cool and all but they seem very heavily "influenced" off of other people's work...For example, that Spidey painting is a dead ringer for the cover to ASM Annual 2001 (just a change in arm positioning) http://marvel.wikia.com/Amazing_Spider-Man_Annual_Vol_1_2001 It is also a pretty popular Spidey themed desktop wall paper (I have it myself). The comic (and wall paper) even have the reflection effect as does this painting. ...I think the Superman is "influenced" from Alex Ross?
  15. This was found in a big stash of comics I just purchased. NFS. Not high grade but a solid mid grade I think. Will submit to CGC for protection and display purposes.
  16. Anyone here have any idea if this is good/worth anything? I picked it up b/c I liked the vintage of it and the cover...
  17. Ok, I will add my two paltry entries. I have a very solid ASM run, just very few graded and/or signed. My first 'sketch' cover - Non CGC of course...Dan Slott Secret Invasion Sketch and ASM #50 (posted it on another forum) signed by Stan Lee and John Romita. Also, can someone please tell me how some of you get those wonderful CGC signature series sketches???
  18. Agreed! I was able to see a few of the books but I did not know the extent of the collection until I got it home and unpacked it and to put it mildly I was pleasantly surprised! Gives me hope one day that I will find something like this again...But I am not going to hold my breath...
  19. Thanks!!! I always wondered what it was 'worth' (I have zero intention of selling though) and saw a similar book sell on eBay recently for over $500.00 (same CGC grade, both signed by Stan Lee and JR Sr.). This book was worth the wait too!
  20. I bought the comic raw off a seller on eBay (took a chance) for a good price, advertised as 7.5 grade. While I did not get this book back this week, it was my FIRST book I ever submitted and it was for CGC Signature Series and it kind of got me on the CGC train. I am waiting for a few more books to come back early next month hopefully...
  21. Bought this lot from a local antique dealer for in June 2012 because he did not want 'the hassle' or 'have to deal with them' so I took this lot off his hands. Some really nice bronze and a few silver age issues. He bought them as part of a larger estate sale. He was asking $200.00. B/c I called him on not 'wanting' the hassle to sell them, I got it all for $80.00 ! Kept some of the keys for myself. Last of it is on eBay right now...Helped to fuel my ASM collection...
