  1. Architecht's post in VIdeo Insert button with default starting size was marked as the answer
I changed the default embedded video size to be no larger than a certain set of pixel dimensions, so it's no longer 100% of the available space.
  2. Architecht's post in How are the account merges going? was marked as the answer
When you click into the Account Merge Requests forum, you can see:
Only your own post if you've made one, AND At the top it tells you how many topics are in the forum (47 as of the time of this writing That tells you how many requests have yet to be resolved.
If you drill into the Completed Account Merges folder you can see the number of topics there to know how many merges have been resolved (118 as of the time of this writing).
There are ALSO some requests on the old boards in my in box that we are following up on that may not be represented in these counts.
  3. Architecht's post in What are the known issues with the new boards and their status? was marked as the answer
    UPDATED 2/16/2017 2:10pm central
What a great question, Arch! But you totally stole it from Dr. Love.
Here are things we know about. We probably know about more issues than will be in this initial draft, but I wanted to start documenting the top-of-mind list, and add as we go. I know some other folks here working on the boards have more.
ALSO, if you as a member know of some issues I haven't listed, feel free to contribute below, and I'll try to update the master list over time.
A good number of people did not sync up their email addresses on the registry and the boards, so we need to merge their accounts - These merges are currently clipping along nicely. We will address the account merge requests forum first, followed by Arch's PM box on the old boards. The "sticky" board header is both a bit too large, and blocks some things on mobile phone, I turned this off for now until we fix the size and blocking problem. Many older posts have ugly formatting - we know this is true, the board software is slowly reformatting all of them over about a week (newest first) Editing time is limited so I can't edit older sales thread - We know this is the case. We limited the edit time to 48 hours as of now so that people aren't editing old posts that haven't been reformatted yet. After all old posts are reformatted we will return this to the old setting. Some people would like less brightness in the colors - We introduced a "beta tweaks" theme adjustment and made it the default - more improvements to come Some people would like a more easily readable font There are problems with ignore - once you ignore someone you may not be able to unignore them or selectively reveal single posts - We added a "settings" menu that let's you get to ignore settings. The old emoticons were hard to find -- I created smaller categories for these so it should make them easy to spot without using the category drop down Someone was able to turn off their PM ability and couldn't turn it back on The profanity filter migrated, but did not set the replacement word to *spoon* - instead it's blank Sig lines DID migrate, and ARE in the system, but all users have a preference set to not see them, and either single sign on or the theme has hidden those controls - We added a settings menu at the top that provides access to signature controls. Custom titles have html in them that doesn't render Signatures have UBB markup / html in them and MAY not get reformatted - Now that people can edit their own signatures, they can fix them as desired. It takes too long to jump between forums - where is the handy drop down?  -- There is a plugin that can give us a function like this that I have my eye on. We will not install it until after the migration settles down, but look for some minor enhancements to things like that over the first month or so. I have to scroll to the top after reading a thread and it's slow -- Use the red arrow in a circle in the lower right We can't use HTML in posts -- No, html is turned off in posts. My video embed code doesn't work -- Because HTML is turned off, you can't use embed code, BUT you can just copy the URL of youtube and vimeo videos and paste it into your message and the boards will embed it automatically A menu link to jump to the registry has been requested - We added this along with a link to the main site, a settings menu, and a quick way to jump to board categories I don't see a post preview function -- It wasn't there at first, but I put a button on the post formatting icon bar for it - it's all the way on the right. There aren't any display preferences, like # of posts on a page, font size, color, etc. -- we will see what we can provide here, but it will be a week or two There's a live chat thing! No wait, there isn't! -- There is a live chat thing. It was supposed to be off for everyone. It is off for everyone now. A bunch of PMs that I thought I removed myself from are now back - that's staying the way it is, sorry for any inconvenience Clicking on a post doesn't take me to the unread posts -- No, but clicking on that black DOT or STAR to the left of the thread name does My watched topics and other items are not complete -- No, we are told that the migration process will slowly populate those over the next week, so you will see them fill in I hate change and new things -- Yes, everyone hates change and new things, until they get used to them. If something is really bad AFTER we're used to it, we will definitely try to make adjustments, but please give things a shot first. We're pretty confident you will like it. I can't upload my profile photo! -- That was true, but we fixed that. At about 11:30am central on 2/15 the boards started loading slowly -- We fixed this on 2/16 The "Jump To" menu doesn't show on mobile
Change log (of things I can remeber):
Made a variety of updates to a "beta tweaks" theme variety and made it the new default - thinner headers, wider body, less bright white Upped the threads per page and posts per page to 40 Increased the edit time on posts to a year now that reformatting is done Categorized the emoticons so they show better on the menu and can be found quickly Added back some missing emoticons Added a "topics with new posts" to the activity streams (btw activity steams come with an RSS feed) Added a "categories" drop down at the top for faster navigation to the lists of forums Added a "jump to" menu to move directly to a specific forum Added a "display name history" area to profiles so you can see who someone used to be Added an envelope icon to every post next to the "report" button that allows you to PM the post author with a copy of their post, hit enter a few times and discuss it Added a "Mark As Sold" button to marketplace posts to make it easy for buyers and sellers to close a thread when it's done Turned on the "Like" button and "Leaderboard" to help people spot good content Added a new Marketplace Probation forum so people can discuss transaction disagreements each in their own thread instead of one giant long running thread Added a sidebar to promote marketplace posts and popular threads Added some spammer and troll prevention tools for moderators Moved the sendmail function to a specialty service to take load off of the service and improve delivery Fixed the permissions on the "About Me" section of the profile to show for other users Put some more buttons on the editor Probably some other stuff I forgot
  4. Architecht's post in Anyway to edit posts after making them? was marked as the answer
    Current editing time: one year.
  5. Architecht's post in Add a Like button was marked as the answer
Eh, we'll try it for a bit. If it starts to become a way to troll people, we'll turn it off. Enjoy for now.
  6. Architecht's post in Will duplicate accounts get scrubbed? was marked as the answer
I just merged Mysterio1 into your mysterio account. That should make it possible to use whatever email you like.
  7. Architecht's post in Post counts are different was marked as the answer
One of the last things the migration does is re-count all of your posts and update your post count. Here are things that would make the post count different - either from what you see on the old boards right now, OR what it was over here just before the recount:
One of the TEMPORARY board posts while the migration was happening were moved over, so they don't count I set the test forums so that they aren't included in post counts Anything you posted on the old boards over the years, but deleted would not be here on the new boards during the recount and so, they would drop out of your post count
  8. Architecht's post in Changing your forum name was marked as the answer
Name changes don't currently go through the mods. I added a plugin that shows name change display history now on the user profile. One reason we had mods approve name changes was to avoid having trolls or probation list folks attempt to dodge their past through name changes. Now that we can see the name change history, it's not such a big deal.
So HOW do you change your name?
When you change your registry name and then click a link from the main site to go back to the boards, the updates are passed through to the boards account.
  9. Architecht's post in Where's the best place to post forum bugs/errors etc? was marked as the answer
I think you can just post it as a question here in this forum... I know it's not STRICTLY a question, but it kind of is! like ---- hey, what the heck, and when are you going to fix this??!

  10. Architecht's post in Loading Speed..Will It Improve? was marked as the answer
    Hm.
I haven't experienced that myself, although every now and then I will see a spike of slowness, it has been a random server load issue rather than directly related to any single type of page.
There are a few things in the short term that impact performance:
The boards are still re-indexing old posts as part of the migration, so that's a continual drain on resources We are still in a single combined instance. As we completely finish migration, the NGC and PMG posts and users will move off to their own instance, and that will reduce both server load and database size On a more permanent basis - the re-indexing of posts that HAS been completed means that searches on the site are searching a greater and greater number of posts rather than only having a few that can be searched. This will have the effect of making searches more draining on server resources. We saw that on the old boards, that searches when sufficiently broad would bog down the server AND take forever. This software seems much more efficient than the old software, but it's still possible that it's an issue given the size of our database.
The splitting into 3 instances will help the search performance somewhat even if it is still a bottleneck.
  11. Architecht's post in Coding/Formatting of Emoticons was marked as the answer
Yes, you can still use text code short cuts to make emoticons, although I'm not sure that every text code shortcut made it over, so if anything is weird, let me know.
If you HOVER over an emoticon EITHER in the pop up when picking one OR on someone else's post, you will get a remind of the text code
  12. Architecht's post in How far back do searches go was marked as the answer
Right now, it's temporary. Only the posts that have been re-indexed will show up.
They DO warn that searches can drag the boards down, so as more posts are indexed, if the search function impacts performance, we may limit it in some way. But for now, it's not intentionally limited.
  13. Architecht's post in Name Change & Post Count was marked as the answer
    Hi,
Since you had different email addresses on your CS account and boards account, you ended up with two and need to request an account merge. Here are details:

    https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/announcement/3-starting-on-account-merges/

  14. Architecht's post in Is there a way to view active "Topics" was marked as the answer
If you go into the "activity" menu at the top of the page, and go to "My Activity Streams" you can find a bunch of cool ways to track content.
I think the option you want is "Topics with new posts". You can view that in either expanded or condensed form via the toggle in the upper right of that page.
NOTE: there is a REALLY powerful feature called "Create New Stream" where you can really tailor what you want to see and how and make your own stream.
ALSO NOTE: I think some of these streams can be a little slow or incomplete because we haven't finished reformatting and re-indexing all of the posts yet. BUT we're close!

  15. Architecht's post in Pms on old and new boards was marked as the answer
The old boards are still open just to make sure we don't leave anyone behind who is having trouble logging in over here. While they are open, people can actually send PMs on that side. That is a little confusing, but as people fully migrate and as we shut down the old boards, that problem will stop.
  16. Architecht's post in Easy way to update links in signature? was marked as the answer
As we complete the migration, the old links should automatically redirect to the new pages on the new boards. That will probably be within the next week.
  17. Architecht's post in Watched Lists was marked as the answer
They haven't finished migrating yet. But we're getting close!

  18. Architecht's post in Font types was marked as the answer
I put that, and some other editing controls back in... I'm not sure there is enough demand to warrant them, but they're there at the moment - until it starts to seem like too much clutter for not enough function.
  19. Architecht's post in What is the "Hide" Option? was marked as the answer
Once you hide something, the Mods can see it, but no one else can - that includes you. You can no longer see it.
It's not reversible at the moment.
    It's there instead of delete.
  20. Architecht's post in Too much scrolling was marked as the answer
There is currently a "change request" on the change request board to make the threads list denser so that more fits on a screen. It has tons of votes, so I'm pretty confident that we'll do the work to get that done shortly.
  21. Architecht's post in Can everyone find the new board? was marked as the answer
Once everything settles down, all the old URLs will redirect to the new boards.
Also, once I'm confident that everyone has been able to access an account on the new boards, we'll be able to advance that process.
  22. Architecht's post in Why was the old forum turned back on? was marked as the answer
    A few reasons:
Some people were having trouble logging into the new boards, and I wanted to be able to communicate with them We can't set up the redirects from the old threads right away, and I didn't want google to start finding the pages missing
  23. Architecht's post in Can you go "invisible"? was marked as the answer
    Hm.
I see that I can set a whole group to either be visible or NOT visible in who's online, BUT it's not configurable individually by the member.
  24. Architecht's post in Going directly to first unread PM in a thread was marked as the answer
Hm. Yeah, that looks like a limitation. I don't see any setting that enables jumping to unread, but I'll keep an eye out.
  25. Architecht's post in Allow for darker (less white) background was marked as the answer
I think there is more to do here, but for now, if you go to the lower left corner at the bottom of the page, you will find a "Themes" selection.
Pick the "beta tweaks for feedback" theme. It's not great yet, but it moves in this direction.
