  1. New listings on ebay - a low-grade one, maybe this cover's a swap candidate. hm

    . . . and there's this one too, not a low-grade but restored.

The first one sold (the seller ended the auction). Probably went for > 2 grand. Cover detached, rusty staples, centerfold loose, bad stains, etc. But still a number 4.

Top one went for $1,750 (plus $40 shipping).

  2. manetteska--

This is exactly how I would have ended the mini to setup for more minis down the line. It was never the plan to have a done-in-one story. This arc was really about Fabian getting control over his powers, finding out what his "Haunting" was and setting up the main conflict of him trying to find his sister's soul...which is the crux of the entire series.

Image does not ask for any story details--we have no editors and no one checking/asking about content. Once your book is approved, you can do what you want--if we wanted to stop doing the book after issue 2, we could've. There is really no approval process to move to ongoing--we just said we want to keep doing our book.

    Frank -

Thanks for the quick - and detailed - reply. Learn something new every day. I didn't know 5G was always meant to be a collection of minis; I didn't do my homework on that front and assumed the Five of Five meant it was the end.

So another question: What is the difference - at least for 5G - between doing a collection of minis versus an ongoing with different arcs? Is it mainly adhering to a more defined release schedule and how that fit in with your other work?

  3. So I finished up the first arc(?) the other night and without spoiling anything, it ends with a lot more to explore.

Question: How far into the process does a publisher say/ask for a mini to become ongoing in order to give the creator(s) time to shift storylines?

I'm guessing if 5G stayed a mini this loose end would have been tied up by the end, or at least tied a little tighter.

  4. Ok guys I have a quick question and I know I should post in the Todd: Ugliest Kid discussion area. But I can locate a few of the second print copies of #1 for cover price (only around 4 copies) in a 100 mile radius of location. And some copies of #2 (1st print) for $6.00 each. My question is do you guys think these have some future chance of going up in value know from what I have been reading the second print run for #1 was lower than the 1st print, and #2 was lower than the first issue print run. Do you guys think these prices or good or do you think the book may start to tank like some other hot recent books.

I am not the speculation master, but given the # of copies available and the distance you would have to cover, I would pass.

If you want to speculate on these issues, I would check eBay first as prices have come down since the initial announcement.

  5. I noticed that while we are all enamored with Day Men which seems worthy of our attention, there are some bargains (at least the way I see it ) on Clone and Todd ( already brought up here yesterday ).

    Clone 1 and 2

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/321175965361?ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1435.l2649

or about half counting shipping what Day Men is bringing. I think these will be far bigger books both in the near and distant future.

or how abot Clone 1,2,3,4,5 for the price of Day Men 1

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/310716863097?ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1435.l2649

Is it still "worth it" to get Think Tank and Clone 1's slabbed (assuming 9.8)?

When is it not "worth it" to get #1's slabbed (again, assuming 9.8)?

  6. Here's another listing for AF #15 from a zero seller.

He claims he's had this book since 2001, yet the 2 pics of the front cover that he provides shows 2 entirely different books. One has a piece missing on the edge (in the building area) and the other doesn't.

Well, at least he/she explains it in the revised description:

"It has come to my attention from eBay memebers that my first two photos do not match up. This is correct, I fear in my carelessness when I took cover photo two I accidentally took out peice of the front cover all from its side. I apologize I did not see this error. Thanks for users pointing it out to me."

Doesn't appear too concerned that this accident cost him/her thousands of dollars.

Not addressed: the countless other things that make the two pictures not the same book.

  7.

    Ken -

    That's Officially good news!

I saw that you're going to be at a local con in a couple weeks in Illinois. What are you going to be up to at the show?

YES! I'll be at Mighty Con --- I'll be signing as a guest of the con. Would love to see you there. Here's a link to the show: http://mightycon.com/

Will you have any issues at your table/booth? -- in case the locals don't have any for sale.

  8. Did anybody else come across copies of Manhattan Projects #12 with messed up covers today? Every copy at my LCS had what I can best describe as a big indentation line that ran from the top of the book to the bottom.

I think I read in the EoW thread that some stores had this problem with issue 3 last week. My LCS was fine for EoW but every copy of MP 12 had an indent running the entire length.

  9. I didn't look back through the pages, but is there a listing for all of the books (and I'm sure there are *a lot*) that feature two teams/groups running at each other? And this motif spans many different ages.

    Such as:

    avengers53.jpg

    xmen100.jpg

    avengersannual2.jpg

Is this a Marvel-only thing or are there some DC examples?

  10. Why is everything on ebay a BIN these days? (shrug)

#1 They removed the $0.50 (or similar) listing fees for BIN (up to a certain amount per month).

#2 All listings are now a straight 10% off the top, so no "savings" if you have an auction that ends at $10. Previously, auctions ending under a certain amount would be less than 10% in fees.
