  1. With MD #1 selling that much in 9.8 slabbed, one would think raw NM copies would be selling better than Saga #1 raws, but many copies still priced at $15-20?

    I don't get it...

    Saga #1 9.8 avg around $130

    Raw #1 NM Avg's about $80

    MD #1 9.8 (one sold for $200+

    MD #1 NM avg's about $15-20

    WTF

Can you point me in the direction of Saga 1 9.8's for $130, please?

    :roflmao:

Before believing anything (especially on the internet), consider its source.

And Saga has not been losing steam for a while. There was a huge bump from a news article that put copies in the stratosphere. Since that peak it has come down to its "normal" price, and has been hanging around $175 for some time.

  3. I cant remember a time when just a trailer has dramatically influenced sales of books. In under 2 days after the trailer I have sold almost every 1st appearance and related GoG books. I sadly regret selling my Hulk 271s for $30-50 last year.

To a lesser extent Captain America is seeing the same thing. Cap 6 and Cap 359/360 are seeing adjustments as well. We may be entering an age of trailers driving sales of comics in way not considered before. Disney is going to dramatically change the landscape of collecting in the next 10 years.

I hope long time collectors see this as the time to sell because it wont be better then the next 1-2 years for high and low grade.

Where are CA 359/360 selling well? There was a 9.8 that set a new high, but raws are still low.

Has Crossbones been shown in a trailer yet -- or named?

Cap 359/360 are seeing adjustments as well.

My term meaning they are increasing pricewise in sales. Said nothing about selling well.

Although recents sales do indicated an increase in price via BINs. For the record I dont count auctions.

(Why? Because they are stupid sellers if they are doing auctions.)

Even just looking at BINs on 360, you see $5 here, $8 there. I guess it's not bad for a comic that was a $1, but nothing mind-blowing.

I'm sitting on a couple copies, and would love to see the price jump, but I don't see it.

  5. Found this guy in the wild recently.

    DO-16-205.jpg

As much as it hurts my wallet to say it, now people are buying the subsequent prints (sometimes at a higher rate than the 1st prints), copies will be showing up everywhere.

Not to take away from your recent find at all; I still want to find one of those.

I went looking for later printings at my LCS of anything to do with Doomsday and came away with a lot more than I expected.

  6. Would slightly disagree - anything post 1981. Late 70s books were still returnable.

Anything post-81 is not even worth talking about, and I'm just speaking in relative terms of BA scarcity. All those 1976-77 #1's were mass speculated - I had collector friends who 20+ issues of any new character #1, like Nova, Ms Marvel, Champions, and of course, new titles like PPSSM.

That was also about when newspaper articles started coming out about old comic book sales, like a record amount for Action 1, which fed speculator fever even in the general public. Back in the early days, I used to see lots on eBay like this from people who had no clue and had no other comics for sale. "My dad just bought a pile of #1's" was a standard reply.

If I had known this stuff was going to explode (Ms. Marvel? Really?) I could have made a bundle buying these issues.

In order to make a bundle, you need to not only buy, but then sell.

You tend to do one but not the other. ;)

  7. Made it through the whole bag; I have a few questions for those more up to speed on Batman than me.

Any interesting issues in the following runs:

Legends of the Dark Knight 1 - 70

    Shadow of the Bat 1 - 40

    Batman 400 - 600

    Detective 600 - 700

And one last one: Anything of note from Impact! comics?

    Good haul. :applause:

Tell that to my girlfriend. ;)

Need to find an easy way to get these out, now. Also, a lot of Superboy the Comic? And Catwoman. And the usual surplus of 90's Image.

  8. Does CraigsList count in this topic?

If so, just got home with a carload of comics for . I went in expecting 4 stacks -- about 200 comics as per the pictures -- but the owner kept throwing in more comics until he didn't have any left.

I haven't had time to go through 1/4 of it, but from the small picture on the CL ad, my hunch on a stack of Batman Adventures paid off. Essentially the whole run, including #12. $$

While packing it up, I also saw a Batman Knightfall and Knightquest run, Shadow of the Bat, Hush, some Legend of the Dark Knight, basically anything 90s to present. He was packing up the Marvels, so that should be a treat.

Not too shabby, but I'm supposed to be down-sizing, not loading up. Expect a giant sale soon, though I'm not looking forward to bagging everything.

    Nice!!

    Have to love craigslist.

This time, yes, I do love CL! Totally hit or miss.Like others have said, don't expect the comics to come to you; have to do some legwork (sometimes a little, sometimes a lot).

With this pick-up, I may seriously consider getting a small booth at Mighty Con to move it. hm

    :baiting:

  10.

I think that's the seller of the book, not the buyer...and not the person who sold the book here.

    "Harold" has many addresses.

I believe that Sharon is correct. The timeline has Kindle buying the book in December then posting in the AF 15 club thread shortly thereafter. He also referenced he was going to upgrade his 2.0 when he offered the book to Joe and me.

Ahh, got confused with everything. I'll modify my posts accordingly.

  11. want some thoughts on this before I proceed in other threads etc.

Picked up a book from a new seller here on the boards. Book arrived yesterday and found the book had a spine split running about 1/3 of the back cover. Seller had not disclosed this in their thread, nor had they disclosed this when they placed the book in the PGM thread.

Book/price paid was based on the grade given by the seller/and those who gave graves it in the PGM thread.

I contacted the seller this morning regarding the books defect and his reply was that he was not aware of the spine split. He says he sold the book at a loss to me and would not accept a return as he does not want the book, but would buy the book for about $75 less than what I paid him.

There was no return policy on his sales thread. I assume I am SOL unless I go the paypal route.

    Thoughts?

    You should out them!

  12. Do you have any better pics showing areas of concern?

How was the book advertised? Do you not agree with the assigned grade, or is there something more to it? If it was advertised as a CGC 9.2 old label, what more would you expect than a CGC 9.2 old label.

I don't have any better pics atm but all in all it is just sour grapes from being spoiled on the forums with books. It has some really bad tears at the staples with additional imprints from pressing and some SCS on the upper over hang.

I'll send it off for a reholder and chalk this up to remembering to wait and find something on boards.

I'm definitely no expert, but one of the "advantages" of an old label book is that it usually pre-dates the pressing explosion.

What makes you so sure it was pressed? And what is SCS?

  13.

Picked this up from a low feedback seller during quadrupole rewards last week. It was defiantly not as advertised and I have my doubts about it even holding the 9.2 if I was to resubmit it. I should have known better but I really wanted a 129 doh!

  14. Let's assume that GIJoe's dad actually did monitor his emails/PMs (instead of just saying he did to get other parents off his back), and let's assume that "monitor" means reading through every single one of them.

If this is true, from strictly an email/PM perspective, he would see his son buying comics, then later coming back and saying they are not the grade stated. Not sure if one can make the jump (without hearing conversations b/n the two) from that to knowing his son was not telling the truth about stated grades.

*** Note: I did not read through every post here, nor track through every FB message, so if there is definitive evidence about the grade negging, I will eat crow.

  15. Still believe, as I said when this was first revealed, this was not ALL done only by the 12 year old. Not only the content of the posts and PMs but the timing(during school hours) and frequency lead me to believe the dad was posting just as often as the kid.

His dads Facebook says he is home schooled

I also thought a FB post said something about GIJoe helping out his science teacher or similar.
