  1. ...some of those post-codes are pretty sweet for all the reasons mentioned. Is it my imagination, or do the Atlas books also seem a bit different in terms of shade/ color tones compared to the pre-codes... as in a possible tech jump in printing quality???
  2. Well, that would be Honker's Ale. Goose Island is just about all I drink these daze....
  3. Thanks, Matthew. Here's an AIU appropriate for this season, I believe...
  4. ...maybe he looks more like the Skywald heap? I dunno, but something about him is very familiar?
  5. Revisited: AIU 39. Got to looking at the panels on the cover. Is it me, or does the "creature shadow" look akin to the Wolverton WToF flying beastie? Also, how 'bout old fish face in the center panel. Does he looked swiped from that one cover of BEWARE, or is it my overactive imagnation again?
  6. Yeah, the DRR was hard at work at ACG.... at least this one has a cool theme as the grace that saves it...
  7. Not at all. I may not post on the thread much, but I am always looking at the new eye candy posted here. Likewise. I make sure to check the thread daily.
  8. I'm glad the editor put the word balloon on this one, or I'd have never guessed what was going on...
  9. First scan of 2009!!! My, how the years fly by. I think this is where I left off with this run...
  10. What th... That's the Bethlehem Collection. Link Flee, are you messing with us??!! Actually no. My forum Christmas gift exchange Secret Santa bghkoyama sent me the 3 precode comics and the Haunted Thrills appears to be a Bethlehem copy. I am appreciative and flabbergasted. Wow. Speechless...
  11. What th... That's the Bethlehem Collection. Link Flee, are you messing with us??!!
  12. i love it! Me too!! That's a cover desirable in any grade!
  13. Finally!! I have scored a reasonably priced copy of Adventures into Darkness # 11. This completes my run!! Here it is!!!!
  14. Yep..Dragon's Lair was a huge part of growing up with comics for me. They came to the mall twice a year...Larry and Rose. A married couple that travelled in a van and set up at shows at malls. Great books and prices, loved the shows for years, it was by far the best comics event in Denver. My friends and I would save our money like mad for the two shows. Bought my first pre-code horror from them. The red dragon bags were cool, long flap and all. I wish I still had one! Those bags with the dragon logo bring back some great memories!! I vaguely remember Rose picking up the slack at the local mall shows when Danny quit for a while to get or work as a CPA (according to Rose.) I also remember her saying "He'll be back someday!" ... and she was right.
  15. I take that back about Maverick's, I just remembered my cousin shops at one in Finneytown on the west side of Cincy.
  16. http://local.yahoo.com/info-15820062-maverick-s-sports-cardscomics-kettering Maverick's used to consist of several stores in the SW Ohio area. I thought the last one was in Fairfield, and sold out to Queen City Comics a couple years ago, but I see that isn't the case.
  17. Yeah, the Bookery is top notch, at least it still was when I went there last, but that was like 3 years ago...
  18. I hope so, too. I owe lots to Danny for being so cool to me over the years. Great guy. He told me once he had a basement full of GA books...
  19. Dale, I hope you don't mean Danny isn't with us anymore!? Last time I saw him was probably 2003 at the Turtle Creek flea market in Monroe, where he was sharing a booth with some guy who was selling dvd's. I heard through the grapevine that he may have been working at the Dayton Books & Co. in 2007...
  20. Who was working the counter? Was there a skinny guy in maybe late 40's/early 50's with short, curly hair & a moustache? If so, that would probably be Dan Wilson. He was not a "partner" in the last incarnation of the store to my knowledge, but I guess he was hired to run the place since he knew the customer base. You're right, the 1 story incarnation was a mere shadow of its former self.
  21. I only got to go there a couple times. Once, back in "the day" of the early 1980's when it was 2 stories of good stuff including tons of old books (not the comic type) upstairs. The second time was maybe 8 years ago, when it had been reopened as just a one level shop for a couple years. Pretty sure it has shut down again. However, I bought gobs of back issues through the years from Danny Wilson (one of the original partners) when he did those traveling "antique shows" that went around the local mall circuit. Man, those were the days.
