  1. For that pricing model to work they all have to be the same grade, not "high grade" which could mean 8.0 to 9.6.
  2. Ebay is a selling channel, not a single entity where there are uniform prices on books across the boards. Who are the ebay sellers I should be pricing my inventory against?
  3. So both of you use a business model where you trust the raw grading from Ebay. Which from the many Ebay posts over the years I find is not always very accurate. So if your expecting me to look up raw books on ebay from sellers I don't know to price my books I'm not sure I'm the guy you would buy from. My experience from selling raw books on ebay was that it was a complete waste of time. All I did was pay for the sellers who couldn't grade because if I listed a book a NM-/9.2 raw on ebay I saw offers of VF. Regardless of the book. Besides I have a website with hosting costs of less then a penny versus ebay which nickels and dimes the seller to death.
  4. I agree, why would you go to a con if you can buy 9.6/9.8 books for less then the cost of grading them. Which is the general theme of this thread, no? As dealers at shows I don't work off osmosis or Vulcan mind melds so how would we know what the "buyers expectation" is if they don't tell us? Yours is that online buying doesn't make it worth going to a show. And if you do go sellers better have something priced right that interests you.
  5. No I'm trying to find out your "buyer expectation". I didn't say you expect to buy high grade at half guide. I was asking since you stated 30% over guide that maybe you were a buyer who is willing to pay guide or less depending on the discount. My point was that to sell the book at 80% of guide I (dealer) would be paying 50%. High grade collectors generally don't sell high grade books for half guide. 4x guide on a Iron man #99 is very aggressive.
  6. LOL. Not exactly sure why this has to be blasted over the PA system since I wouldn't be at a show unless I wanted to sell books. Maybe I would have added "If you want to buy books make sure you have some money" since I can't tell you how many times I get "If I win the lotto I'll be back for that book"
  7. And if I may ask did that seller discount his books? Since 30% over guide could become 10% over guide if he discounts 20%. Or are you a buyer that wants it priced at guide and then discounted a certain percentage? Not picking on you. Just leading into this. Who is selling high grade at half guide for that dealer to make money on?
  8. Ok, they don't see the company name on the booth. How about title/issues? I was at C2E2, I bought a lot of great material, before, during and while the general public was out and about. I would not assume that all my pricing is above the market place when my website has the ability for customers to make offers.
  9. What were the titles/issue #'s of the books that were 30% over guide or more? Who was selling them? I love vague, how about specifics. We won't get offended. I would just like less vague and more fact.
  10. What exactly is fun about seeing you buy books from Gator?
  11. When you think small you are ($80 for $800 for $1500 for $15000). If you have a accurately graded/fairly priced collection and can read a exhibitor list I think the big show is where my best chance at doing big sales lies. You can go to the local show and sell to local dealers but you are confined by the local "financial demographics". National dealers have "national budgets" and frankly I would love nothing more then buying a new unseen collection of fairly priced books then looking at my competitors inventory. I would think that more local dealers would seek me out at shows and tell me that they have some new books versus me having to seek them out. I have had some local dealers do that and spent a lot of money with them. Being fair worked out for the both of us.
  12. If a out of state show is not a multi-day show (ticket prices will probably be higher/booth costs) then I am not driving 2 1/2 days to texas to come say hello to collectors who spend no money that are glad to see me. Unless the national dealer is local I doubt they will set up at a local show unless it is financially worth it. I am not sure what the attraction to small/local "Comic book only shows are". A one day show requires me to load in and load out 4 times (Once from my office to the minivan, unload to the booth, setup, breakdown the booth, load out to the minivan and then load out back into my office) x 45 boxes. If I do $500-$1000 at that local show it is a WASTE OF TIME. I can sit at my computer and sell that online and save breaking my back (4X 45 boxes).
  13. "but when will the consignors realize that the market is oversaturated and stop consigning their books". I have always wondered why the consignor's who don't get good results never post in these threads. I'm waiting for the "I took a bath by consigning to "Enter auction house name" thread.
  14. The same thing when you stop bidding in auctions.
  15. $67000 is not a horrible price for a 6.5. Unlike Gator I'm not retired. Ok so whoever bought that 5.0 and 5.5 feel free to consign it on my website. I saw the last AF #15 buyer zipped that copy over to Ebay in a flash.
  16. Yes I do know the seller for a long time. I bought the AF #15 from him. He hasn't sold me the Hulk #1 yet. Would like to buy it.
  17. I was told that they were military base copies but I'm not 100% sure that is true.
  18. Yes I know the seller, I have not seen the book in hand but have looked at large scans. Owner feels that the book is a higher grade in the holder (Don't we all). He is very optimistic on a possible 2 grade upgrade where I am not.
  19. You need to drink the kool aid in order to buy this book at the reserve.
  20. Bob who thinks Cal doesn't know how to spell or doesn't read what he posts. What "Inn" are you in right now?
