  1. CGC has been in business since 2000. They just started charging for notes in the last year. If a dealer doesn't know how CGC grades by now I'm not sure they ever will. That is not to say that I know exactly what they will grade a book but I have an idea. And if I'm off I generally will call to see if I missed something.
  2. Why does it matter what grade he is buying? Shouldn't a dealer know how to grade all grades? I feel that every dealer has his sweet spot of grading, the grade they overuse. If you find that sweet spot you will generally have very good dealings with that person.
  3. I could be wrong on this but I don't think Steve is doing the raw grading at heritage.
  4. So when are you paying Adam? Have you paid your phone bill? Obviously the computer works since you can post. Change your email address recently? Are those valid questions to ask?
  5. Sorry man, I'm still learning how to deal with it Beachbum style
  6. Borock's son right? Steve still owes me the babysitting money for watching this kid at San Diego one year.
  7. I'm sorry my information came through a referral. Jeff got my thank you.
  8. If you turned off your smartphone at dinner you might see some more things out in the world. Cha ching
  9. Dave kapelka is the only dealer I know that has used these. I have about 25-30 of them. If somebody wants to buy them I'd have no problem selling them. They are a little heavy so the shipping cost depending on where you are might be a problem
  10. Now while I'm happy to get some free press on this book I'm not sure throwing it into the "face job" camp is something I'm happy about. This was bought from a seller who bought it off Comiclink so I'm the third in line. Was it pressed, maybe but not by me or the previous owner.
  11. The FF #11 9.4 passed my bidding also. I was very interested to see it pass the $10K mark.
  12. Bought a FF #3 CGC 8.5. Very good transaction.
  13. And if you see a hot chick do you poke your buddies while stating "I'd hit that".
  14. Sports couch potato's like to grab their bats, talk about balls and dream of stuffing it.
  15. To be user friendly and to assist in the "transition" CGC could have enlarged the numerical grade to assist dealers for selling at shows while keeping the same font size for the alpha grade underneath. Would not have taken up my label real estate at all. But hey, what do I know about being helpful to the seller or buyer of CGC comics.
  16. Professional Opinion's Service has three categories of a graded book Limp Half mast Gave me wood Admit the "peter" meter goes hand in hand with the BSD segment of the hobby. CCG buying CI is the comic equivalent of introducing Viagra to the comic industry.
  17. All this talk of hard and soft just makes it clear that my Professional Opinion Service is definitely a need in this hobby. POS's opinion of a hard 9.2 - http://www.highgradecomics.com/images/catalog/as48gmwfc
  18. I've been around since 1973. I've gone through a number of dealers using their own grading "standards", Overstreet's and CGC's as well. I was not a fan of CGC going to a straight numerical grade. With many of their changes they very rarely consult anybody who sells their product on what they are planning on doing. Frankly I get VERY few people asking me what the alpha grade translates into numerically.
  19. Obviously you missed my Pressno's thread where the books are lightly spritzed, lighted baked and flattened and then as they are drying along the conveyor belt suddenly drop on the graders desks. How can this not be a conflict when the books are still warm?
  20. Richard, I didn't think there was a book that Doug owned that he didn't think could improve. If the book didn't upgrade than basically every different finalizer was used, CGC standards didn't get loose enough or the different set of graders didn't think it had a shot at 9.8 either.
  21. Almost all of these were owned by Doug. I would venture to say that they were pressed quite a bit. I would venture to say that a lot of time was talking about how these were 9.8's. I guess you have not been schmelled before until you cave so he stops talking.
  22. By the way there are a lot of upgraders doing the happy dance A major competitor has been eliminated with this purchase.
