  1. Finally got a nice (VF) copy of this guy! cloud9.gif

I wonder if these are the same pesky kids on Cain's roof from HOM # 175?

Won't they please just leave those Gargoyles alone?!!??

    Will they ever learn?! 893naughty-thumb.gif

These Gargoyle covers were among the main reasons I have always liked horror books. Which led to me asking N. Adams to put one looking over Batman, in my avatar.

Architecture in comics has ALWAYS fascinated me.

Good point, those cheesy side panels certainly do distract from the main image. Takes away from the classy look of what could have been a really nice cover.

How dare you downplay CRAZY QUILT!!

27_laughing.gif, He has gotta rank right up there with the worst , lame brain villians.

And yes I too have thought about how cool that book would be, if as you said.. it was an all Wolf/Bats, Neal Adams Cover.. thumbsup2.gif

The Art looks cropped, has anyone ever seen the Original Art for it?

  3. Nikos, that sure is one snazzy looking Harvey #1 9.0

What is wrong with it, it seems to be pretty solid. confused-smiley-013.gif

Christo_pull_hair.gif It's my book. I can see a BC non-breaking crease on the BC. This appears to be the most material defect. FC looks great!

Right you are Greggy, I did not see the

    quote, on Niko's post

Could the dust shadow have been the big flaw?, does not seem all that bad in the scan.

  4. That #162 looks fantastic.. all three look great, but the #162 looks to be in really great shape..hrmm.. an easy 9.2.... .9.4 perhaps?

I think I know someone who just got a few grading coupons in the mail.. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

And I too have recently been exposed to the "other " side, mainly due to this forum..

Being a mostly Marvel Fan for years.. I now have the honor to discover many new DC titles.... and I am loving it. cloud9.gif

How many more W.H. slabs do you have waiting in the wings?

Those 9.0 copies you have look fantastic for White page 9.0 copies.

    Thnx for sharing Sterling.. 893applaud-thumb.gif

and , welcome back Shiver.. hi.gif

This BA horror stuff is all so new to me , I just feel like a kid in a candy store. cloud9.gif

Just bought a reader copy of WH #1, read it last night for the first time.. and was blown away at how it was written, presented, from fonts used , to the story lines, everything about it was different then what I expected for a DC 1969 comic.

    I had a blast reading it. headbang.gif

Look foward to reading the entire run..... arent you jealous of my newbiness to BA Horror?

I have yet to read all this stuff for the first time!!

    What a treat... yay.gif

  6. Great post.

I think I have tried them all that were listed above.

Bubble wrap I agree , it is very handy, but does it harm them? not worth the risk

Shoe Boxes, yup used those too, but found they always left a little to much space, or were to tight to fit in, depending on amount of space needed to be filled up.

Cardboard, same thing, I would make little cushions, but found these had to be adjusted every time I added, or took out comics from box.

Gravity, or leaning the box backwards works just great, till you move the box, and hear them slide foward

So what did I come up with them?

    Towels.

Bath towels, the old ones, you have had along time, that had been washed many times over, and over and then I washed them again in plain water a few times also.

Fold these up to take up the space you need, they are light enough, and can fit any space, and also pad when moving around.

And use a hand towel , or full size to fit your need.

I cannot tell you how many times in past I have moved a box.. heard that sound of all my comics sliding towards front, as I then peek inside, and try to convince myself that nothing was damaged, and everything is ok.

  7. As a newer collector I have a question.

Obviously pressing has been around for ages,

with that said, only recently with CGC have graded books been getting cracked open and pressed, then resubbed and achieving a higher grade, for what I assume is a profit motive by the seller.

Therefore how rampant was pressing in raw books back in the day?, that no one had any idea it was being done?

I assume you all bought and sold GA, and SA books aplenty back in the day, and had no idea if it was a clean and press item.

But since CGC is around now for us to look up CGC slab #, and scans to look at, and therefor track comics easily. We can without a doubt verify a comic sold recently is now for sale again at a higher grade.

    So my question.........

Is pressing more rampant now because a bigger profit can be made by taking a 9.0 book and pressing it into a 9.6, and getting multiples of guide?

Or has pressing always been around with sellers turning decent books into HG books and we just bought them thinking them true..

HG, without knowing only recently it was a much lesser graded RAW book?

  8. . And the book was pulled very quickly after the thread appeared. IT HIT A NERVE!

It was pulled within minutes of your post Redhook, as I was looking at your thread when you first posted it, and then the auction was pulled within minutes of your post about it.

    Which I found odd.

Since Jason doesnt read these boards

    my 2 cents

  9. C'mon guys....can't we all just get along?

Stay outa this with your logical reasoning, and calm soothing comments.. gossip.gif

I was hoping to tape this and put it on PPV tivo. makepoint.gif

    j/k Beyonder..... 27_laughing.gif

But maybe the good natured banter between REd, and Murph will bring forth some more(new) facts about this super top secret , double secret probation thread topic.

  10. That's where the profit is, from taking an 8.0 to 8.5 book with a slight roll and a big splash of distro ink, all the way up to a CGC 9.4-9.6 with a bone-white cover.

Anyone who's seen the "before and after" photos I have, would NEVER be a fan of pressing.

    Thx Red, JC

As seen in this thread alone, this topic is a firestorm , with no end in sight.

As a buyer, do I care if a 8.5 was cleaned up, spit polished and pressed to a 9.2?

I am not sure, if I did not know and was ignorant as to it being done, then I assume I would be happy with my 9.2,

but if I then sent that in to CGC and it was in some way deemed a plod, then thats where the rub is.

Without a clear cut defination of C and P, what are we supposed to do?

Sellers are not at fault then for not disclosing this info to buyers since it is not deemed resto ? yet???

Buyers should then not care if it was done since it is not considered restoration ?yet?

Yikes, 893whatthe.gif I think I will back away slowly from this thread , slowly and not make eye contact with the beast that this topic has become ..lol

Oh crud.. it sees me makepoint.gifmakepoint.gif..

    Run Away

  11. I have wanted to ask you guys after reading this thread.

If 20 raw copies of DD #10 were on a table, all in 9.2 to 9.6 range, and 5 out of the 20 were pressed recentlly

Is it possible to pick out which of the 5 on the table are the pressed comics just by viewing them?

And since all these books had to have 9.0, 9.2 chareristics even before being pressed.

After pressing a comic , is there tell tale signs that is is not just a really well kept comic, is spine flatter?, book in general not as puffy?, is it too similar to a comic that was stored properly , stacked in a box for years?

And if not , then I guess that is where the problem lies.

As it seems from this thread , there is a definate line drawn in the sand , and either you dont mind a book being pressed as its not really restoration.

Or you think pressing is a mild form or Resto and consider the book to no longer be original.

So before I lose my original thought,

Can you pik out the pressed copies by a simple viewing, when compared to others next to it?

I personally have not had the pleasure of seeing too many really HG comics up close , so I would like to hear anyones thoughts on my question that has seen their share of HG..

    Thanks

    Z
