Good morning all.  I have been thinking about starting to collect Golden Age Sub-Mariner comics.  Of course there's always eBay, but curious if you all can recommend a good, reputable online shop with reasonable prices?  I would rather give my hard earned bucks to an online shop then eBay if I have a choice.  Thank you!

I would recommend the Golden Age forum. I think there's a whole thread on Golden Age dealers.

I have only just noticed that now, OUTSIDE ebays ludicrous 'Global Shipping' debacle, they are now applying "Import Tax" automatically on every comic purchase to Australia from USA, and I assume to other areas? (be nice to know if that's the case).

That's great, except in Australia, we don't pay 'Import Tax' or 'GST' on anything comic related under $1000.    We also don't seem to charge it to any other country via ebay.

    EG:

    Lot Of 4 Incredible Hulk Marvel Comic Books # 212 213 214 215 Avengers Thor NP7

    Incredible Hulk
    AU $27.84
    Sep-15 15:35
    10% GST will apply
    From United States
    Was: Previous priceAU $55.69

Is this new (I knew about the GSP 'tax' and like 99% of Aust/NZ buyers ignored those sellers that used it.) - if so, this will surely significantly reduce international sales to Australia for American sellers?

Are any countries exempt now from this mystical 'Import Tax' that Ebay just decided to add to sales from USA to the rest of the world?

It seems really odd to add an unilateral tax which will only drive down sales.

Do dealers now charge this tax as well?

Thanks for replies as i genuinely only noticed this tax outside of the Global Shipping Programme today!

Who exactly is applying the 10% tax?

I checked the ebay listing you included, and there is no mention of a 10% import tax. There is the standard "Goods and Services Tax (GST) may apply" disclaimer in the 'Postage and Payment' section, but that's always there.

(Hope you didn't pay US$57 postage!!

  3. image.thumb.png.8505f6f517540653382cdb4d55a5428f.pngI search for "Captain Marvel" on US EBAY and this I find!!

I search for "Captain Marvel' on the US ebay site, and I find this.

Is this some sort of targeting the buyer?

    If not, it's freekin' weird.(:

And I can't seem to delete the extra screen shots that somehow appeared!! AAArrrghh!!

80s were great years for D.C. Just saying (sorry off topic)

They went with that "D.C. Comics aren't for kids" sloagan full fledge. And although it was a cliche it did make a difference. Most of their titles were brilliantly written with the mature reader in mind

Marvel had Art Adams which was good and bad. Good cause of his quality and stylized art. Bad cause he single handedly inspired the whole Image staff to create horrible books.

The 80s also had the European invasion. Moore, Bolland, Gibbons, Hewlett.. Marvel did good w adapting Moebius graphic novels through Epic. Some of these are still sought after to this day

    Just to stay off topic!

What would a DC Graph look like?

  5. Recently purchased these on ebay.au

Are they variants or B/W reprints? They are both from  the 1950s.

Atlas had both a 'Navy Action' and 'Marines in Action', but the covers don't appear to coincide with any of the originals.

I'm only assuming Atlas. The 'Navy Action' has that angled stripe on the top left corner, same as Atlas issues of the era.

Are the covers from interior splash pages?

I'm after any connection to original US printed comics.

There is NO information anywhere on or in the bloody things to give me any idea of their origin.

    Thanks.

  6. Without the foxing, this book looks to be about a 7.5. With the foxing (to that degree "moderate") I'd say 6.0, 6.5 tops. Does the BC exhibit the same amount? hm

Foxing is a stain, and impacts the grade based on its severity. :)

Sorry, forgot to add mention back cover!

Yes, it has the same amount of foxing.

    Thanks.

Then no higher than 6.0, and to those who despise foxing, even lower.

I put it up on ebay last night as a 5.0 (VG/F). The BIN was hit within an hour. Sold for a price I was very happy with.

    Thanks for info!
