I would agree that nailed up for display by the news dealer. If it was the owner maybe a hole on each side. I have seen old photos of comics clipped with laundry clips on the top left on a string.

Cool books either way. At a good price, I would happily buy them.

Here is one clearly not done by a news dealer but rather shot at with a gun!  :sorry:

Gotta disagree with the holes being made by the newsstand vendor.  No kid is going to buy a brand new book with a hole through it.  Clipped on a string yes - a nail hole through it - no way.

Besides, a vendor would not have the time to fiddle around trying to hammer a nail through a bunch of comics.  He would have to get that product displayed ASAP.  Nor would the vendor have time to remove the nail from the wood every time someone wanted a comic.  He could though, easily and quickly unclip a book.

Having a nail hole through the books might have even affected the vendor's ability to return them to the distributor for credit damaged as they'd be.

I'm blocking 8481randy because he bid on a book and then asked to cancel after it ended and he won.

Reason: he states that the book is worth 2x-3x more, and I should relist it with Buy It Now at a higher price. (shrug)

Thanks Randy but last I checked I set my auction prices, not you.

This guy's too stupid to follow his own advice.  If he feels that the book's worth 2-3X more then he should buy it and then resell it at the higher price!

He should be blocked for non payment AND stupidity.    :makepoint:

Here's someone from Sydney, Australia named 'David Richardson' selling a Romita Sr (incorrectly identified by him as Romita Jr) color Spidey, framed, from 1993. He joined the group three weeks ago; his Facebook account has posts since 2017. Different guy?

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/100761773610059/user/100010051785240/

It says "To Nicholas" but he says Romita did it specifically for him.

This is the part I found confusing.  I would presume that the transactions should have occurred with PP G&S (as that is the rule for sales threads).  If that's the case, it felt like people really jumped the gun on probation when it's something that could (granted with more effort than necessary) be filed with PayPal and refunded.  At that point, the only person who loses is the seller who has to pay the G&S fee no matter what.

On top of that, none of the responses indicated from the seller that they had confirmed the intent to :takeit:.  There must have been behind the scene discussions because many claimed ":takeit: per PM".  I don't know how many people actually got far enough in discussions to get PayPal details and issue payment, but as far as I could see, one person issued payment, but despite that it seems all calculations on how much was "paid" and not responded to were based on what books were claimed in this thread.  Again, I can only go off of what I see.  It's possible every person who claimed a book did in fact issue payment.  It's also equally likely that a few people waited for the end of the sales thread to pay their invoice at the end in case additional books were listed that they might be interested in.  My point being that unless more evidence is provided, only one person has legitimately spoken out that they were financially wronged, while all other potential buyers have yet to come forward with more than "he ghosted us before we could exchange assets."

None of this excuses the seller for ghosting.  I do think there is some leeway because you never know a persons circumstances.  If they really were hard for money, there could be a number of things that easily derail them.  Logging in and not responding to messages isn't a good look, but without a full picture, the level of judgement in such a short period of time felt extreme.  If you know others are counting on you to complete a transaction, you should strive to respond to those sales in a timely manner.  Full stop.  But that doesn't excuse members from violating Rule #1 of the HOS/PL Rules.

(NOTE: I still don't have all the information.  If it turns out more parties were aggrieved, then I'll revisit my opinion and change it accordingly.)

Sorry but if you've got the time to log on - you've got the time to type a sentence explaining the situation.

BTW - do we even know whether these are his books?

Thinking about selling this and buying an unrestored; while the market is low.  I had vintage comic fever the night I bought it; is this not too bad as far as restored goes?  I've since learned the effect of the 'purple label' on value; but this is a beautiful book!  I'm a 55year-old, humble kid reclaiming his youth; & learning the hard way.

Don't learn the "hard way" - learn the easy way - "Educate first - then buy".

  6. I thought that there was paper work that you could fill out that allowed you to send books to CGC; get them graded; and then allow them to be sent back to Canada without having to pay duty - on the book portion anyway.  Ask CGC.  Failing that, let's see what follow Canadian collectors have to say.  Failing THAT, contact Customs.

You may well have to pay tax on the grading portion.  I seem to remember that if you have your car repaired in the US you could be liable for tax/duty on that so paying tax/duty on grading would be a logical extension.

This is one of the "minor" pages I bought from Conrad Iron Man 249 pg.17. I also bought the first three pages of the same comic. Conrad had every type of art collector covered. I no longer own the Doom Renoir art and I don't know of the FF5 pg. whereabouts(It was over my budget, congrats whoever owns it). The ask for the Kirby FF was $7,000 in 1998. This shows the range of art. Conrad also had pre-hero, sci-fi and fantasy art. Just an unbelievebale eye for the best art. I hope as a community we can support Conrad's family if the opportunity should arise. This is a time to be human first. I only posted this art to give folks who don't remember Conrad a taste of his inventory. He was ahead of the curve along with other respected dealers like Mitch.

    * I no longer own IM 249 pg.17 I regret but that's life as a collector.

Didn't Conrad have, at the same time, this page AND the page before or after it?

I bought that Godzilla cover from him too. Had to sell it seven years later to pay medical bills. Would love to buy it back but I haven't seen a trace of it since.

Back to Conrad though, was he a police officer before dealing in comic art? Or am I thinking of someone else? (I know Joe Jusko was, that may be it.)

I believe that he was a police officer at the same time as he was dealing in comic art.

I was supposed to receive an order from CGC with an insured Value of $800.

The box was found open , outside my building without the contents inside . (Graded comic books from CGC )

When I go to the Fedex website it says I signed for the package which I definitely did not .

When I spoke with a local Fedex rep they started an investigation which I believe included talking to the driver.

I was then told the driver had someone in the office of my apartment complex sign for the package .

The office staff says this is not the case as they are not even there on Saturday .

Regardless I did not sign for the package in person and the package contents are  missing .

I tried to call the national Fedex number but they only determined by what I believe is an automated response that

    the package was delivered .

I again called a local Fedex office and was told to file a claim or contact the person who shipped it to have them file a claim .

Any ideas as to how to proceed?
I have put in one of the written requests explaining the situation to CGC yesterday but so far have not received a response .

It seems pretty clear that Fedex did not fulfill their duties and even said they did and then gave a different story and the second story

does not appear to be true either .

    Thank You

    You should also:

    1. Post here a list of the books and their CGC numbers so that the Board can be on the lookout for them.

    2.  If necessary, contact the major auction houses with the same information.  That might be dependent upon what books are involved.

    3.  Visit all of the LCSs near you and provide them with same.

Not sure if Gold Key returned any of his art.

I've never seen a single solitary page of his Mighty Samson art.  Have you or do you know of anyone that has any of those pages?

I don't know what the Gold Key policy was.  All I know is that there is precious little of it out there relative to what was produced.

A number of artist held onto their art, Frank Thorne was one of them. About 8 years ago he sold all of his artwork. He figured his family wouldn't know what to do with it when he died.

I don't think that Frank kept any of his Gold Key art.

Ebay recently replaced its Global Shipping Program (GSP) with eBay International Shipping (EIS). EIS has some limitations: it doesn't currently support combined orders for more than one item, and it didn't support sales over $500, although apparently that was recently raised to $2500.

We've never used GSP, we handle our own international shipping. I've heard mixed to negative reviews in the past from eBay buyers about their experiences with GSP, but that was several years ago.

Any eBay buyers here outside the US have recent experience with shipments sent via either GSP or EIS? Do you like it or dislike it when a US seller uses GSP or the newer EIS?

It's been a disaster for foreign buyers.  I will not buy from anyone who uses any iteration of eBay shipping.  Too many stories of shoddy packaging; damaged items; items missing components; unwarranted/illegal duty etc etc

Continue with your current shipping method.
