  1. Why would you send the book back to CGC for inspection? Send the book to an unbiased resto expert to find out if it's actually trimmed or not. I wouldn't send it back. Who knows what shenanigans might go on. As for possible trimming, have some others with JIM 83s measure theirs. See what the spread is. I will do so with both of mine. Guaranteed not trimmed. This might help, but it won't be conclusive. If a book is trimmed and still measures within the spread, there are other indicators to determine trimming. I know, but nothing else we can do from behind are 'puters. Just trying to be proactive.

My comment was meant to ridicule the idea that sending the book back to CGC could possibly resolve anything. I completely agree with you.

If I remember right, the printing process when these books were manufactured varied widely as did the dimensions from each batch of books. Not by inches but enough that measuring isn't remotely reliable. Yeah, but if we can see what the spread is, we can at least know if the "offending" book is in the ballpark. My 2 are: 10 1/4 10 3 and 1/2 /16 Measured dead center FC.

  5. I don't think the buyer did anything but get lucky. Would you send it back Bob? I wouldn't. Buyer isn't flaunting anything. He's actually being very humble about the whole thing. He didn't do anything other than to LMK that I was right when I originally started this thread, in that CGC is NOT as consistent as everyone thinks they are. Well, they were consistent when they graded it blue, twice. Consistent = 3 for 3 (thumbs u Hey, 1 for 3 gets you into the HOF!

  7. As to the trimming issue, the simple, best way for CGC to proceed is only label it trimming when it is beyond a shadow of a doubt. The JIM was graded twice as a blue 6.0, once a res. 7.0. That leads me to believe the 6.0 was the correct grade, the res. 7.0 was the mistake. So, that it was trimmed was not a slam dunk. The CGC graders should have erred on the side of caution, like they did TWICE, and not label it trimmed. That was that the error on that sub. Another question is, did they give a gift full grade bump because of the suspected trim?
  8. That or Chris Hemsworth is the buyer and resubmitted it, and the graders thought"he is the real Thor" so they gave him a better grade and they are a fan of his too.. Nah. Hemsworth would have gotten the blue AND the 7.
  9. Bottom line, when those people make mistakes, people may die. I sure as hell wouldn't want anything less than perfection from them if I had to depend on their opinion. Why settle for less? The doctors and lawyers are certainly liable for their mistakes. Even the president has to answer to congress. Of course, people don't die because of a CGC mistake. But it may cost you money. Even though they may be human, would you settle for less with your comics? Are you willing to suffer a financial loss because of their error? I don't think so. Of course no one wants to be the guy who got screwed. But, we all get the shaft on occasion. If one says they don't, they're either a liar or a fool, maybe both. You may not want anything less than perfection, but how often to you get it, and how often do you settle for less? My point is, this does not mean CGC can't be trusted, or is now "bad." It means they blew it. Here, and most likely many others. No business is perfect. There never has been one, never will be one. I'm not being a CGC apologist. They need to do better at fixing these things. I'm sure someone is reading this from them now. Tighten up the ship. New procedures in place. Better training. More staff. Whatever. Get better.
  10. Sorry to hear that S-D, that really sucks. So, it was a blue label 6 twice, and a PLOD 7 once. So, we can assume the PLOD was wrong. 2 outta 3. The response was bullpoop, but standard, and expected. Every company does it. Buy expensive cars. Dealers love telling you weird mess is "normal". Grading is subjective, and opinion, ALWAYS, whether CGC, you, or me. People make mistakes. I'm sure CGC has made many, many mistakes. We'll never know, books are encapsulated. Bottom line, don't expect perfection. Doctors make mistakes, lawyers make mistakes, presidents make mistakes. People. Make. Mistakes. We get over it, and move on. It WILL happen again. Part of life. BTW S-D, the buyer must be bat-poop ecstatic.
  11. Had to get this thread off of page 2! Guess this will be my undercopy?
  12. The longer you stay at it the more chance you have at completing it. I never thought years ago I would ever finish my run of Amazing. Now almost 30 years later I have completed collecting every issue published from 1959 to 1979 from Marvel. Good luck on your collecting quest! You ARE inspiring, brother..... I'd have trouble just figuring out what was needed for a complete Marvel collection.... really. THAT in itself is impressive. GOD BLESS.... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u P.S. It would probably be best if we don't tell them what happens when the cute new girl starts at work and we start thinking about getting a new 'Vette to impress her...... and what becomes of the comics then Thanks James. I really enjoyed putting together all the runs. And still enjoying hearing about how other people are building runs themselves. If anyone thinks they will never complete something...just keep at it. One day you may complete that run and all the time leading up to that is what makes collecting comics fun. And this is what a complete Marvel set looks like. Yogi Bear 1-9 NOW I'm jealous!

Not for the cute girl(wife wouldn't like that) but I sold off all my good stuff back in 2006 to buy a new 2007 Vette.
  14. TMNT #1 (fourth printing) - 60,000 Not aware of a 6th. Thanks. 6th printing Ahhh. Cool, thanks for the info. (thumbs u
  15. TMNT #1 (fourth printing) - 60,000 Not aware of a 6th.
  16. Sounds pretty good for you... any idea if either book has been pressed? Neither was pressed. The TMNT was bought off the rack, signed at a show. Guy is the OO.
  17. Ok guys, question about a possible deal I can do. Amazing Spider-Man #121CGC 9.6 + $800 cash for a TMNT #1 CGC 8.5 w/Eastman and Laird sig inside cover. What say you? Good deal for me or him?
  18. Great product, great packing, great service! Couldn't ask for more!
  19. If the new owner is a boardie, tell them to post here. (thumbs u Here I am! And here it is!
  20. and yet iron man has consistenly had a comic produced monthly (even in 2006/7 it was near top 50), where as TMNT couldn't even muster the sales to maintain a monthly comic during most of the 2000's, right (does anyone really count that 23 issue image disaster? ) Alan Scott doesn't have a book at all, not for a long time, so All-American Comics #16 musta tanked big time.
  21. Wrong. Twice. I didn't know there was a TMNT movie coming out. I knew that TMNT was turning 30 and I could still afford a high grade copy. Secondly, I knew that turning thirty plus a tiny print run does not mean that people should wait. Wait for what? More to be printed? For the "newness" to wear off? There are VERY few copies of Action #1 and Detective #27. What happened when there were a couple of high sales? The whole ship rose quickly. Do you think one low sale can knock down Action #1 and Detective #27? It only takes a few sales of a tiny print run to make the price insane... for good. If you think I'm just talking about the Golden Age big two (Action #1 and Detective #27), try buying a Maxx Black. I think your main problem is that you keep trying to compare actually culturally significant books, from different ages with singular unique characters to TMNT. That's a reach, and that's putting it mildly. No one is saying that the book isn't worth anything. What most are saying (as the results of your poll also indicate) is that a NM+ copy of TMNT 1 < VG AF 15. And that applies now and 10, 20, 30 years from now, whether each franchise releases 10 movies or 0 movies. What's that old saying about asking questions that you don't want to know the answer to? -J. Why are you under the impression that TMNT isn't culturally significant? The animated series was the third highest rated cartoon for kids aged 2-11 last month. That seems like something.
  22. I'll respond. No. He isn't. (thumbs u How so? Who's bigger, right now?
