  1. I'm unclear, was this cover sold sight unseen or just sold prior to release of comic but with image available so the buyer knew what they were getting? Either way I don't have much sympathy for buyers remorse when you drop $18k for a cover of an unreleased book because the hyped story didn't pan out the way you expected.
  2. I contacted ComicLink and all they did was change listing to say "attributed to John Buscema" and add a note that says "The provenance of this piece goes back to John Buscema, but we can not say with certainty that it is by his hand." I asked what the "provenance" consists of besides the consignors word but haven't heard back. I think the description is still misleading when the piece is obviously not by Buscema.
  3. hm, what are the the odds that a penciled cover layout//prelim that has full title dress passed through the Donnellys' hands? https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/gil-kane-werewolf-by-night-20-preliminary-cover-original-art-marvel-comics-1974-/a/121823-12100.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 http://www.coollinesartwork.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=298894&ArtistId=411&Details=1&From=Room Somehow I just knew I would find it there. I would have liked to see it before they got their hands on it...
  4. recently the complete 22 page story from Amazing Spider-Man #505 sold on Heritage for over $20k which surprised me. is this some sort of key issue or is there any other reason to explain the strong price?
  5. ha, good catch, I didn't check the address. The piece looks dubious and it surprised me that ComicLink is offering it since they sell big buck legit pieces.
  6. The ComicLink summer feature preview includes a Dr. Suess sketch with a certificate of authenticity from Reel Legends. is that a reputable company? I am no Dr. Suess expert and am not saying this piece is not authentic but this immediately made me of all of the forged sketches flooding ebay in recent years (Gallery on Baum, "NYC street fair" finds, bad Wattersons, Bob Kanes, etc. etc.)
  7. this was published in 1981. Funny, if it was listed as a Miller instead of Buscema I'm sure it would fetch a lot more, though I prefer the Buscema.
  8. FYI, the ComicLink June preview has a cover prelim that is inocrrectly attributed to John Buscema (Marvel Treasury Edition #28 Superman vs Spiderman). I own an actual Buscema prelim for this cover, compare images below. This same piece sold on ebay years ago and was discussed here, I believe the consigner purchased it then and believes it to be a Buscema. does anyone recognize the artist of the first piece?
  9. I normally don't ship outside the country when selling on ebay due to the hassle/cost, but have received a plea to ship something to France. My understanding is that to satisfy paypal and prevent a claim of non-delivery the package must be fully tracked, is that correct? for those that sell internationally, what is the best option? (The item in question would ship domestically inside a 9x12 flat rate priority mailer.) any info is appreciated, thanks!
  10. Scott, as a professional artist I'm curious which books are your favorites?
  11. Thought I'd pose a few questions for fellow collectors of the Artists Editions/Gallery Editions/etc.books: how many different volumes do you own and what is your favorite? how do you store them? what would you most like to see that hasn't been released yet? do you only buy books collecting material that you've read in the past? or do you buy books based on artists you like but perhaps titles you never read before? and has anyone removed a page from a book to frame and hang up? I have about ten books. I started with the Rocketeer and the first couple of IDW releases but had to become more selective as numerous additional volumes have come out. The Daredevil Born Again is one of my favorites, I really liked the inclusion of the pencil art and other bonus material. I keep mine in the original cardboard boxes they come in, in a big stack on the floor next to my desk. I would love to see a John Romita Jr. Daredevil volume (or Punisher War Zone). I purchased the Will Eisner Spirit book without having read the original material, also the Wrightson Muck Monster portfolio, and I think I'm going to pick up Toth's Bravo for Adventure having never read it but being a fan of his work. I haven't removed any pages to frame but was thinking about it with the Marvel Covers book.
  12. I have a couple of Artist Edition books that I'd like to sell or trade for other Artists Editions. I will be attending Art Con in Hasbrouck Heights and East Coast Comic Con in Secaucus. Ping me if interested. Sergio Aragones Groo Mike Mignola Hellboy (1st edition) Dave Stevens Rocketeer (Betty Variant)
  13. I have a twist on this topic, not modern art that's penciled/inked separately, but reuniting vintage John Buscema finished pages with the corresponding prelim/rough. I've been able to do it three times and twice I ended up paying more money for the prelim. http://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=50399
  14. I started collecting around 2000 when I discovered Spencer Beck and ebay. my interest is mostly late 80's early 90's Marvel, favorite artists include John Buscema, John Romita Jr, Mark Texiera, and Bill Sienkiewicz. http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=17793
  15. these look better than the average fake but simply based on offerings (Dr. Suess, Bill Watterson, Bob Kane...) I say fake, thoughts? http://www.ebay.com/sch/artforsale01/m.html?item=332141798919&hash=item4d5531a607%3Ag%3AKF4AAOSwWxNYtocA&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562
  16. Great topic! My contribution is a Savage Sword of Conan page by Buscema & DeZuniga: http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=321826
  17. I fall in that age bracket and the early 90's are my nostalgic 'sweet spot' too. I think much of that material is locked up in collections and pieces that I'm interested come up rarely, like Whilce Portacio Punisher pages or anything by Mark Texeira. Sleepwalker and Darkhawk? In fifteen years of collecting I think I've only seen one Darkhawk cover and one Sleepwalker page come up. You mention JRJR Punisher, the problem there is he only did 8 issues of PWZ interior art, 6 PWJ covers, and the Batman/Punisher crossover book so there isn't a ton of that material (although he did more issues of Daredevil, Ironman, and X-Men and that stuff is also hard to come by) . I was fortunate to pick up some great JRJR Punisher stuff from his art rep when I first got into collecting art years ago. I've also managed to get quite a few JRJR convention sketches from the early 90's on ebay. http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=17793
  18. I enjoy getting sketches in books too, though I don't have anything as elaborate as the original poster. My collection includes books by Sergio Aragones, Simon Bisley, Frank Cho, Darwyn Cooke, Juanjo Guarnido, David Lloyd, Mike Mignola, Phil Noto, John Romita Sr. & Jr., Stan Sakai, Tim Sale, Mark Schultz, Mark Texeira, Dean Yeagle, etc. http://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=35058
  19. fosworld is back at it with a terrible 'Kirby' sketch: http://www.ebay.com/itm/JACK-KIRBYS-CAPTAIN-AMERICA-1974-SIGNED-9-75-X-10-PEN-AND-BLACK-INK-/262460882198?hash=item3d1be33d16:g:4i0AAOSwOtBXTGnT
  20. ugh, another ebay ID that's five minutes old selling garbage...
  21. another bad Romita from a brand new zero feedback seller... http://www.ebay.com/itm/John-Romita-Sr-Original-Art-signed-1970s-Marvel-Comics-/111999091051?hash=item1a13aa816b:g:aW0AAOSwXSJXOVOo
  22. more potential fakery from the guy that brought you a treasure trove of dubious Charles Schulz, John Romita, Dr Suess, and David Bowie (?! that sold for $7256 ?!!?) "originals"... this time a Jeff Smith Bone watercolor. http://www.ebay.com/itm/231875639657?afsrc=1&rmvSB=true
  23. Seems it was this piece that was copied: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cllHLuW0Z4k/URG_8jAqTRI/AAAAAAAAJ4E/s63oQFL1H5c/s1600/john+romita+sr.+wolverine.jpg
  24. caveat emptor: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Framed-John-Romita-Sr-Wolverine-Original-Art-Ink-Sketch-Signed-Rare-X-Men-1-of-1-/391363656377?hash=item5b1f177ab9:g:F4wAAOSwJkJWlcM6 and if you like that one he's got a nice Bob Kane too...
  25. upon closer look it seems this may be someone that was a victim himself since the photos of his items include COAs from Ducoso, unless this is some sort of alias ebay account.
