  1. like everything else, it came floating around the bend again Pity the water damage! Seriously, that's a great set of white paged beauties, and the 23 is an awesome copy of one of the very best covers in the run.
  2. Are you a condition freak? I ask because for that money you can obviously acquire a very early issue (with Kirby interior art, e.g., 2-17) in low-mid grade, an upper mid-grade Adams issue (56-63,65), or an ultra high grade Byrne or Cockrum issue (102 and up). All are cool books.
  3. Kudos to Doctor Watson (I presume) for the lightning fast and bulletproof shipping on a couple of stunning high graders!
  4. So besides being a killer copy, this is a probable Green River book to boot. Do you remember who you acquired it from, Angelo?
  5. Nothing beats high grade raw books.
  6. Coup de grace. Unless you plan to overthrow the government, that is.
  7. Yes. It's from the Heritage auction. I thought that I had also won the #98 and 106, but got beat out on the floor auction. I'm collecting mostly Golden Age books now, but I have a soft spot for Thor. Love the cover of that 153. And, you're right, Bob. There was some great stories during this time period. — Rick Thanks for clearing that up Rick Be happy you won that great book from Heritage: I thought I won 3 books only to lose them all to the floor I was lucky enough to win one book from the Janowicz collection, an FF29. The colors and whiteness are spectacular, and I wish now I had bid more aggressively on others. Congrats again to Rick on a gorgeous JIM 103.
  8. Not now, Arex. However, as I get closer to retirement age, the time nears when I'll be parting with my remaining slabs, as I have done already with my ASM run...(while planning to hold onto my oo Bronze collection tenaciously).
  9. Beautiful JIM 103 with great cover colors! Is that from the recent Heritage auction of the Janowicz collection? Here are two of my favorite later issue covers. The plots were consistent nail-biters during this time of multi-ish stories.
  10. Thanks Arex and Rhino for posting the totally cool stuff!
  11. And as a bonus book, here is the first ish of Thor in his own title. This is a surprisingly tough book to find in ultra-high grade. My copy is from the massive Las Vegas collection that singlehandedly bulged the CGC census on certain well-represented issues, such as ASM 14 and DD 1. This is an unusual cover, because it sports the protagonists much larger and up-close than was the norm up to that point. BRING OUT YOUR THORS!
  12. The end of the run: JIM 125. Simple, classic cover. I still need to scan and post the JIM Annual. I hope everyone will post some of their favorite Thor material!
  13. JIM 124, another from the Pacific Coast pedigree. Hercules enters the Marvel Universe, a being who potentially can match even Thor's awesome might. Greek and Norse mythology all rolled into one!
  14. JIM 123. Acquired from Pedigree Comics.
  15. JIM 122, Pacific Coast copy. Purchased for $130 from PCE in 1999. The book was slabbed onsite at Wizard Philly, and it became the first 9.6 copy of this ish. Odin takes center stage on the cover and in the story. This is the last ish published under Pop Art Productions.
  16. JIM 121 Boston copy. Another Pop Art Productions. Stan and Jack now figure that villains capable of approaching Thor's power should be very large. Nice absence of word balloons and hype boxes from the cover.
  17. JIM 120 sports stunning cover colors. It was acquired from Brent Moeshlin, who believes that the book is an unattributed Boston copy. Sure looks it:
  18. JIM 119. Pacific Coast copy, purchased raw in May 1999 for $125. As the August 1965 issue, this is the first JIM to sport Marvel's new "Pop Art Productions" moniker. Apparently, the move was judged to confuse consumers, because it only lasted for 4 months. Vince Colletta had settled in for a long run as Jack's inker. Hogan, Fandral and the voluminous Volstagg make their first appearance, and provide alot of muscular and psychological support for the Mighty One, as well as comic relief.
  19. Nik and Arex are our resident experts regarding Thor 168, so I defer to them. It is, indeed, surprisingly difficult to find in high grade for a late Silver Age Marvel superhero book.
