  1. Thanks for the thoughts everyone. Didn't think about this before...I sometimes put 4-5 books in a post because it seemed more efficient for some reason...didn't think about how that would affect load times... good to know.
  2. General question: In sales threads with a lot of books, do you prefer to see full size scans posted in the thread (which requires a lot more paging to make it through the thread), or do you prefer clickable thumbnail scans, which make the threads more svelte (but requires you to click to see big scans of the books you're interested in)?
  3. The "Pay It Forward" thread over in Comics General...the original thread starter posted something for free with the idea that any boardie can come along and claim it, in exchange for posting something else for free that any other boardie can claim, ad infinitum. So, whatever the current item is on offer, you (or anyone else) can claim it, then you have to post something that you will give to the next claimant, etc...
  4. Although the PIF thread exchange made it sound like the sender was charging shipping, manicnerd confirmed that he did NOT pay any shipping $ to the sender.
  5. Actually, looks like it was "$16.45 + tax", which I assume is what manicnerd paid? I'm making this inference based on the PIF thread discussion, here: 7th post on page 365 manicnerd, please confirm?
  6. Aside from the general principle of the matter, one thing keeps getting lost in the shuffle....it looks to me like manicnerd paid $15 or so for the sender to ship the Spideys (since they were coming from Canada). Is that right, manicnerd? If so, manicnerd paid the sender $15 for shipping for books that were never shipped. So, at a minimum, manicnerd might want that $15 back...
  7. Interesting technicalities involved here...could be argued either way. All I was saying is that if boardie A committed to sending boardie B some comic books (for whatever reason) and boardie A failed to honor that commitment, I wouldn't want boardie A participating in the marketplace until his/her commitment was honored...I don't care whether the commitment was made in the marketplace, the PIF thread, or out on the street.
  8. Good point...although, based on the thread, looks like manicnerd paid for shipping. Seems like it's more about the point of the matter...there's a board member who didn't hold up his end of a deal, so wouldn't we want that person officially on the list - that would be in all of our interests, right?
  9. Rule 1d states "A Transaction between board members is not confined to the CGC Message Boards. Any transaction between forum members, regardless of the venue, is eligible for inclusion in the PL." I agree - this meets the definition of a transaction, any way you slice it...manicnerd gave up something of value (i.e., his PIF offer), plus paid shipping costs, I'm thinking. What's more, this transaction DID occur on the boards (although not technically a requirement, as pointed out in the rules). If you don't like the PIF vibe, that's one thing...but given that it exists, this was a "transaction."
  10. Just bought a sweet X-Men 28 slab from Chris - smooooth transaction - tight shipping, great communication. Kudos! (thumbs u
  11. Just bought two L.B. Cole shark covers from Michael - another awesome transaction...superb books, packaging, and communication
  12. Hey Ed, thanks for providing the detail around the aborted transaction. Hope you didn't take my request as any sort of doubt/criticism, just a desire for details, which always help in these cases. Facts: June 11: You two agreed to a deal for an ASM 121 & ASM300 Jun 17: Second confirmation of payment being enroute. July 5: You graciously reduced the deal to just the ASM121 July 5: In the same conversation he asks about adding some other books to the order and you give him an updated price total on those books (including the ASM 121). July 9: He back out of the whole transaction. So he basically takes your ASM 121 & ASM 300 out of circulation for a month (Jun 11-July 9) when you could have sold it, listed it, or had it at shows. I think you can totally nominate him since the 30 days have passed both for the Initial agreement (June 11) and even your reduced deal for just the ASM 121. I think the subsequent books (H4H and others) were never agreed to (he expressed interest, you gave him the price, he declined), but the earlier deals should stand the scrutiny of PL worthiness. PM him that he's been nominated for the PL, and point him to this thread. He has 72 hrs to respond in kind and state his side of things. One question is: What does jsilverjanet need to do to "make things right" with you? (And that's between you and jsilver) It's just that the PL nominee needs a path to get off the list, even if that's simply "complete the transaction that you agreed to"... until he does that he shouldn't be buying anyone else's books on here, thus the purpose of the PL. This. (submitted my last post before I saw this)
  13. Sounds pretty definitive Also, per the PL rules: "1d) A Transaction between board members is not confined to the CGC Message Boards. Any transaction between forum members, regardless of the venue, is eligible for inclusion in the PL." The other unknown is whether robocard is even interested in pursuing the completion of this transaction via the PL mechanism, or just wants to let it go. Either way, thanks for bringing it up here in terms of its "FYI value" (thumbs u
  14. This scenario sounds like it might qualify for PL nomination proceedings...am I right?
  15. Unfortunate situation, yes, with many lessons (to be) learned from both sides. I sincerely hope the parties can reconcile this. Having said that, am I correct that we would agree that nothing in this scenario (at this point) is going to result in a nomination to the PL? If so, why don't we move this conversation over to the general discussion thread?
  16. Yeah, he was kind of annoying. In his (partial!) defense that is a disorganized sales thread. Lack of recaps, lack of marking some books as sold, and at least hinting that he was going to list books that, in the end, I guess he isn't going to. That said, though, he was offering a lot of great deals. Yep. There were a multitude of annoying sins in that thread, both by the OP and many of us....aside from the issues caused by the tantalizing pictures and extremely annoying book requests, we repeatedly pressed the OP to commit to starting times, so he did (questionable decision). Then, when things didn't start on time...an onslaught of popcorn munching and tangential discussions right in the middle of the man's sales threads ensued (while waiting for the postings to begin); then, long waits between books led to more thread discussions about more nonsense, etc...we all turned what should have been about a 20 page thread into just shy of 100 pages...downright crazy.
  17. Matt recently bought a 28-book bronze-age pile from me - smooooth transaction. Rapid payment and pleasant communication - hope to do another deal with Matt in the future! (thumbs u
  18. Just bought a gorgeous ASM 43 CGC 8.0 from Scott - smoooooth transaction: fast shipping, solid packaging job, great communication. KUDOS (thumbs u
  19. I was just looking at this. Also. Showing off books bought today at a LCS. Yep....duly noted.
  20. Here's one I picked up fairly recently: Horrors #12...for the life of me, I can't find his signature on the cover. Interesting, because he did all of the other Horrors covers as well (11, 13, 14 & 15), and all of those are signed...wonder why he left the 12 unsigned?
  21. Just received my second book from Don - a Crime SuspenStories #3 CGC 6.5 - just like last time, book was quickly bomb-proof shipped across the Atlantic - smooooth transaction. (thumbs u
  22. That is awesome, I did not recognize him. And I am a type/graphic designer, I know him for the "De divina proportione" treatise… Ah, yes...he was a mathematical genius...seems like Italy produces a lot of those...he did a lot of work with da Vinci (as vaillant knows) - probably invented modern accounting in his spare time, while he was resting his brain.
  23. My forum name comes straight from my real name...it's what I'd been using on eBay and elsewhere, so I just keep going with it.... My avatar is Luca Pacioli, the "Father of Accounting" (he invented the double-entry bookkeeping system...you know, debits have to equal credits and such...). (I'm an accounting professor)
  24. Rupp just bought my X-Men #94 7.5 to add to his hoard - awesome, smooth transaction! Hope he buys something else from me...
