  1. I see what you did there...at first, I was like 'what is Hector doing, trying to pad his post count...he already has more than 100.'
  2. I just had another awesome transaction with Jordan...he bought a stack of raw Thors from me, and the transaction was smooth sailing - instant payment, great communication. KUDOS!
  3. That bad, huh? Oh well, just trying to think outside the box...trying to think of a plausible mechanism that would make new sellers invest time/energy in understanding the community, if that is the desire (under the theory that a simple post count would not do so, because someone can just post 100 dancing bananas in a test thread, or some such nonsense). Of course, like a simple post count, some form of this quiz idea would also likely turn away not only some of the scammers, but also the legit Best in Comics types...
  4. Here's another idea...I'm only half kidding with this...I don't know how the admin/technology would work, but what about a "new member orientation quiz", that a new member has to pass before they can post/start a sales thread/etc.... I'm thinking 10 questions...things that a person would have to spend a reasonable amount of time in the community to know. Things such as: Question 1: Calamerica's favorite book is _________________. Question 2: The Cole Schave collection is a set of books that appear to have been jacked up by improper __________________. Question 3: The board name of the person with perhaps the best collection of slabbed Jumbo Comics in the world is _______________. Etc..... I'm admittedly into the red wine this evening, but I think there might be a kernel of an idea here. When you pass the quiz, you can start a sales thread.
  5. To further help think through what a good solution would look like, let's consider the recent case of new member Best in Comics - with their 6th post yesterday, they listed a $50k X-Men 1 9.2. A number of our most upstanding boardies instantly came in to provide a positive recommendation regarding this "noob." Just a short while ago, Best in Comics listed a $9k Sgt. Fury 1 9.0, with their 7th post. What hurdles would we want to put Best in Comics through before they would be allowed to list these books here?
  6. I hear you...I guess this recent rash of this nonsense just has me a little jittery. But, if a scamster wanted to get really sophisticated, here's a possible formula: 1. Go search the grade me forum to find a cool (and expensive) book that was posted by a user some time ago with a very small number of posts that appears to have gone inactive. 2. Create a fresh account claiming to have previously had an account here (referencing the inactive account associated with the grade me post years ago), but unable to resurrect it because of forgotten passwords, etc..., and offer for sale (without current pics) the very book that was posted in the grade me forum by the inactive user...wool pulled. Sounds like a sophisticated effort, I agree...but if the straightforward scamming approach is proving ineffective, perhaps one would invest the energy to get a bit more advanced. Having said that, I agree that it might be legit...as I said, I'm just a bit edgy because of the increasing frequency of apparent scams we've seen lately...
  7. About that Exciting #39 thread going on in G/S/B...still strikes me as a bit strange. I mean, we found "his" old username within an hour of looking using information he provided, and he himself was unable to find it? My mess detector is going off....
  8. Ed recently bought two large stacks of raw Spidey-related books from my Bronze and Copper threads - smooooth transactions all the way around. Instant payment, great communication. Would deal with Ed any day of the week. With a name like "Ed", I would have expected no less... (thumbs u

  12. Opinions seem to vary...as for me, I list any books Dec. '83 and earlier in G/S/B, and any books Jan. '84 and later in Copper/Modern, so you and I are on the same page.
  13. Yep - kudos for transparency. I suppose the argument is that the press was a value-adding service that he provided for the next owner of the book. Problem with that is that the book would be worth less to me now than it was pre-press...but that's just me...I'm probably in the minority
  14. Just completed my first deal with Andrew - he bought a few raw Bronze ASMs out of my thread - SMOOOOOOOOTH transaction. Fast payment, great communication. Hope this is but the first of many.... (thumbs u

  18. I'm ramping up for a Bronze age Amazing Spider-Man sales thread. I've had many of these books for over 30 years - sorry to see them go, but Bronze is falling further and further outside my current collecting focus, so it needs to be done. All books are raw - I'll list issues ranging from 102 to 246, with some gaps (I have about 90 books to list within that range). Most of the books are solid mid to upper-mid grade copies, although there are a few low grade/readers in the mix. I'll try to start listing books tonight, then I'll chip away at it until I have them all out on the table. NOTE: I will not be listing 121, 122, 129, or 194.
  19. I'm going to start sounding the leader of the Fantasyland15 fan club...but it's true. I just received two more GA slabs and 2 raw books from Don....he continues to please. A real gentleman, to boot.
  20. Just received two slabs from Steve (an FF 16 and a TOS 56) - sweet deals and fast shipping! (thumbs u
  21. Just bought 3 Silver Age ASM slabs from Mike - great deals, super packaging, fast shipping - KUDOS (thumbs u
  22. Different subject: shouldn't big sales threads that combine books from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s be in the Mixed Age thread rather than the Gold/Silver/Bronze thread?
  23. I'm no lawyer, but couldn't the doctrines of promissory estoppel and detrimental reliance come into play here to turn this gift into an enforceable contract? Did not the promisee rely on the anticipated gift of the promisor in offering his (the promisee's) gift to the next person? Can injustice be avoided other than through enforcement of the original promisor's promise?
