  1. Also, I don’t know Dale Roberts, although I feel like I know him better than I did yesterday. I urge any of you that know him to contact him privately and encourage him to take the high road and set a good example by either (a) asking the moderators to move his thread back to mixed, or (b) stopping being a lazy and separate his books into two threads…put the G/S/B in G/S/B and put the C/M in C/M…it’s not that difficult.
  2. Thanks. I apologize...I should have been more explicit in my initial rant. I’m talking about Dale Roberts’ thread, RIGHT HERE. See the first few pages for the initial action. He started this blatantly mixed thread (and stated this intent in his initial post) in G/S/B that he intends to run for a couple months, and the moderators appropriately moved it to Mixed. Dale then started whining and alleging that he would get his thread moved back to G/S/B, and he was correct - the moderator(s) made an inexplicable exception and moved the thread back to G/S/B, clearly communicating that the “rules” do not apply equally to everyone. Besides…Dale’s thread was doing fine over in mixed, and one could make the argument that he will get more Copper/Modern viewers in Mixed than in G/S/B, but that calculus is apparently lost on him.
  3. I realize that essentially, no one gives a mess what I think, but I'm going to anyway... When 1) people who should be taking leadership roles in our industry (and by extension, these boards) request blatant exceptions to established marketplace rules/norms (based primarily on the argument that, "well, other people have gotten away with breaking rules in the past so I should too"), and 2) those requests are actually granted by the people in charge, it might be time for me to take a vacation. I know, I know...."well, have a nice one Ed...don't let the door hit you on the on the way out"....right?
  4. Toast just bought two boxes full of raw comics from my Bronze thread...the transaction was a real pleasure - instant payment and great communication from a great boardie. (thumbs u

  6. This is my personal favorite because its subject matter strikes a personal chord. My wife has South American heritage, and my daughter's name is Elena. Amazing.

  15. Another great transaction with Marc - picked up a slabbed TOS 49 6.5 from him, and everything was smooth sailing - fast, secure shipping, good communication. (thumbs u
  16. I do agree with this, but in my defense (for the thread Ed is referring to), I actually know the seller. I've dealt with him on eBay for several months (sold him a lot of books), recently just did a deal with him for a book that I had here so I am familiar with his payments/shipping etc I agree...I have also had very pleasant dealings with the seller via PM (I responded to a WTB thread of his)...would have no hesitation about dealing with him again. I raised this point just to reinforce Rupp's concern...suppose we all voted on the 100 post minimum to start a sales thread. It's my understanding based on previous discussions that the board technology would not be able to automatically impose this constraint. So, a seller comes along with less than 100 posts and starts a thread...say someone knows that seller (or not) and posts a 'take it'...then what happens? Let them just conclude the transaction? Then what is the point of the rule, even if we pass it?
  17. OK...in that case... This is an excellent point. This happens all the time with the rules that are already in place. For example, a sales thread with a bunch of slabs recently went up in G/S/B with no payment info & no shipping info...the listing was since edited to include this info, but before it was edited, boardies were throwing up 'take its' like dogs on a bone. Is it time to consider some sort of sanctions (for lack of a better word) against boardies who transact with a seller that doesn't follow marketplace guidelines?
  18. A very similar poll recently was take over in the General Discussion marketplace thread: CLICK HERE ...in thehumantorch's post on 10/22 @ 9:24pm: 43 Yes, 6 No So, I think it's already time to go to the next poll Also, probably better to keep this discussion over there instead of here, since this particular discussion is not about putting someone on the probation list or taking them off the probation list
  19. Hector bought a DD 131 from my Bronze thread, and everything was smooooth. Instant payment, great communication. KUDOS! (thumbs u
  20. Jared recently bought a handful of raw Spideys from my Bronze thread - smoooth transaction - fast payment & great communication - KUDOS! (thumbs u
  21. I agree with your thoughts here, but I suppose this approach technically meets the listing rules (which state "List scans or information about the grade of the offered books"..."or" being the operative word). Having said that, without the listing enhancements you describe, I'll just pass right by a listing with grading like this...just not worth dealing with it. I also find fascinating the contrast between the very loose grading and the very precise pricing...I mean, the X-Men 4 is $243.04....not $243, but $243.04
  22. I hear you, Speedy-D...mentioning a "PayPal surcharge" in listings used to turn me off so much that I would simply not purchase books under such listings. The more I self-reflect about it though, the more I wonder whether it's the general principle of the thing that bothers me, or is it simply the pitch...the reason I'm thinking about this is that some listings effectively impose a 3% PayPal surcharge, just presented in a different way, and these alternative presentations don't seem as put-off'ish, for some reason. For example, which of the following listing terms are most and least offensive? (holding the issue of protection aside): 1) $4,500, PayPal, check, or money order 2) $4,500, PayPal only 3) $4,365, check or money order only (no PayPal) 4) $4,500, PayPal, check, or money order accepted (3% discount if paid via check or money order) 5) $4,365, PayPal, check, or money order accepted (add 3% if paid via PayPal) I think we inherently like to see #1 for some reason; but, if I'm comfortable enough with the seller (based on prior transactions, for example) to pay via check, wouldn't I like to have the option of #4 or #5? Also, interesting that often there are listings like #4 (which pitch the thing as a discount) which don't seem to draw as much scorn as the #5 phrasing (which pitch the thing as an add-on), even though they are effectively the same. So, what is it that bothers me so much about #5....
