  1. I think it would make everyone feel warm and fuzzy if you also said that you intend to pay Larry the originally agreed upon price (especially since the books have apparently gone up in value since the original deal). But, up to you, obviously...
  2. It would be more fair if the original deal was reconstructed in full, which would mean that buyer pays the originally agreed upon price. Not sure how buyer's acceptance of free books makes things fair.
  3. Sucks, but I think if the buyer here had simply put "please send your three best copies" in the PayPal note, we'd be having a different discussion. Just semantics, perhaps, but sometimes semantics are important, especially in this litigious environment we live in
  4. That was it! Ah, so I wasn't imagining it...you remember it too...
  5. I miss that discussion about whether being an unmitigated doosh is enough to get you on the PL. What ever happened with that, anyway? (ducking and covering )
  6. We get on this carousel so frequently, I can't remember if what I'm thinking actually happened, but I swear I recall a discussion not too long ago about someone (else) putting something about wanting 9.8s in their PayPal payment line...the seller shipped the books, and the books didn't come back as 9.8s, and the buyer made a big stink about it. There was some discussion about whether the seller's acceptance of the payment with that wording in the PayPal notes created an additional obligation, even though the books weren't initially advertised as 9.8s. I seem to recall that there were actually some opinions that favored the buyer's logic. Am I imagining that? I'll try to find it...
  7. Phillip just bought a 4-figure slabbed ASM #2 from me, and things were smoooooth. Great boardie to deal with (thumbs u
  8. I can't say that I find it annoying. However, I think most people misuse the term to mean really, really, white. However, it's far from that...bones really aren't that white. Actually, it's a technical color name that describes a range of yellowish/grayish whites... From the paint company Benjamin Moore, for example: Here's one with more gray than yellow: Actually, maybe it is annoying...the color name is not very descriptive, is it...is it yellowish-white or grayish-white? Why am I spending time on this? Stop stalling, Ed...get back to work....
  9. Now, you can add me to the list of people who Clinton has purchased raw FFs from...recently completed a deal for a moderate-sized stack. Smooooooth transaction all around, with great communication...KUDOS!
  10. from around p.137 of october's recent thread: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8353958&fpart=1 Dirty pool old man I don’t even want to know what that means in english… Pool as in billiards..... GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u Indeed. And dirty pool is playing in such a way that although you aren't breaking any rules, you're not exactly playing fair or 'nice' either Did you know that with the exception of a couple of good books, dealers won most of the quick selling stuff that I didn't? Congratulations. I move that we rename this place the Dealers' Society Message Boards. Other comments from p. 138: I remember a past Foolkiller thread where a certain dealer (with quick computer speed) bought most of the stuff, and resulted in some changes to how subsequent sales were run, so that those who were primarily fans/collectors could have a chance to pick up a few books for their collection. Shouldn't there be a dealer/flipper tax on this board. Automatic 25% markup on the stated price. If I understand things correctly, at some point in board history, dealers weren't allowed, then there was some sort of vote that brought them in.... Discussion?
  11. My vote is yes! +1 Very fair question to ask a seller. What if it was a book I pressed? Then I would feel much better about the book.
  12. John recently bought a slabbed Daredevil #1 from me on time payments. Just a smoooooth transaction all-around...great communication throughout (including letting me know when the book safely arrived), and payments sent ahead of schedule...book was paid in full in half the time agreed. KUDOS!
  13. Here's where JDub said he was made whole: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=7290971#Post7290971 , so all clear there
  14. Here's where it was discussed that since he was moving to the HOS, he should be removed from the PL: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=7279914#Post7279914 Around here is where people were thinking that the HOS addition was not warranted: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=7280345#Post7280345 Looks like it would be quite a mess to go back and figure out whether all of his individual PL offenses were rectified...not sure that would be a worthwhile exercise at this point. The bigger point is that it's just an illustration of why someone shouldn't be removed from the PL when put on the HOS...just makes things too convoluted.
  15. I searched a while but could not find the Menace PL nomination. Any idea what that link is? If we can find it, it may be a good idea to contact the original PL nominator and see if they want them re-added or if restitution has already been made. This will put you in the ballpark POV http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=7234139#Post7234139 Yep...that's the ballpark of the discussion. Also, from the list records themselves, Here's where Menace was added to the PL (12/6/13): http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=7233670#Post7233670 Here's where he was "upgraded" to the HOS and removed from the PL (12/21/13): http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=7279751#Post7279751 Here's where he was removed from the HOS and not returned to the PL (1/9/14): http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=7334798#Post7334798
  16. Having said that, I realize that in practical terms it probably doesn't matter 99% of the time whether they're removed from the PL or not when added to the HOS...I'm just arguing a technical point. But...I have seen some confusion arise when HOS automatically removes someone from the PL...Menace was the case, I believe...if someone gets voted back off the HOS after being put there, it's easy to forget to put them back on the PL. Seems cleaner to just keep the PL removal criteria consistent...the individual that put them there has to take them off.
  17. To avoid confusion, I'd remove him from the PL list. Kind of like dismissing the shop lifting charges when the guy gets convicted of murder. I disagree. As a general principle, addition to the HOS vs PL stem from two separate actions brought by different parties...one by an individual, and one by the community. Addition to the HOS is not simply an "upgraded" charge. A better analogy for me is to think of domestic violence charges brought by an individual victim (a civil court action, I believe) vs. domestic violence charges brought by "the state". The initiation of criminal charges by the state doesn't terminate the individual's action against the perpetrator.
  18. Perhaps the spine ticks "weren't there" when CGC graded the book. It has been suggested that "poor" pressing jobs can result in what appears to be CGC overgrading...that is, poor pressing may result in only a temporary grade improvement, until the paper memory kicks back in and defects return...AFTER the book has been graded and put in the slab, of course. That is, spine ticks literally may not be there when CGC grades the book, and then reappear later because the press didn't set properly. CGC can only grade the book as it sits in front of them, which will usually occur within a relatively short window after the press. This is a pretty interesting issue that I never thought about until I read a discussion about it recently in another thread: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8236804#Post8236804
  19. Yep! Here's the one heading your way ( formerly owned by a fantastic boardie ) .... which is made possible thanks to this upgrade (from another great boardie )....'round and 'round we go...
