  1. Yeah, and also don't give us that B/S about "I just want to read it...I haven't read that one yet" and then sell it for 30% more next week. Yeah, you wanted to read it. Just call it what it is.
  2. Yeah, it's a mixed bad. It's nice to have the dealers/flippers to provide liquidity, but can obviously hurt the collector-purchaser (which I think is what this community used to focus on, at least in spirit). I'm not begrudging anyone by bringing this up...and the new price being asked by the seller is indeed a fair asking price...I'm just waxing philosophic. Sigh.
  3. I should know better, or at least I should wait until tomorrow (Friday), but I just feel like reflecting on the practice of "board flipping" (which I define as buying a book on the boards and then flipping it back onto the boards). For example...back at the end of June, a book was purchased in a sales thread: Thanks! Thank you for offering it up. Feel free to post up a scan of that gem. I've never owned a copy higher than a 3.0 before. This morning, the book appears to be offered by that buyer (who is now the seller) in his own sales thread: So, is board flipping (a) good for the boards (i.e., at least it provided liquidity to the original seller when he needed to sell the book), or (b) bad for the boards?
  4. But wait...you're still using an envelope. And I won't buy from anyone who ships comics in an envelope, dammit!
  5. What if a seller puts the comic in a box, then puts that into an envelope? Would that be OK? Or still bad, because it's in an envelope? Or, really taking this to extremes, what if a seller used an envelope but sandwiched the enclosed book between two 8" x 11" pieces of sheet metal? (just reinforcing my point earlier that there are secure ways to pack books that involve envelopes...simply stating that "envelopes are bad" is too simplistic. The correct statement is "poorly protected envelopes are bad." Also, poorly protected boxes are bad. )
  6. I often ship comics in flat rate priority envelopes. However, when doing so, I assure you that the envelope package is as damage resistant (if not more so) than a box...it is literally unbendable (the solution involves using sheets of rigid wallboard rather than sheets of cardboard to build the sandwich that slides into the envelope). So, envelopes aren't the problem, per se. As mentioned before, you can pack a box or envelope poorly...you can also pack a box or envelope very securely.
  7. Time limit specification is the critical bit, for your own protection. Otherwise, nonsense can ensue on down the line...
  8. I took a turn earlier in the week. I stopped when I started feeling annoying.
  9. VERY sweet score, Steve I adore pedigree copies (particularly non-GFC pedigrees...of course, there were no romance GFCs anyway). There are a couple Crippens in my Modern Love run (both acquired from the good Dr.), but that's it...
  10. At long last, I'm able to present what must be a rare group shot...the complete EC romance collection. Special thanks to Dr. Love, who recently sold me a big stack of his EC books, including the three issues I was missing (the elusive Modern Love #5, Modern Love #6, and Saddle Romances #11), along with some incredible upgrades for some of the others. Thanks again, Dr. Wouldn't have been possible without you...
  11. How precious. I've spent over $7,000 on books from boardies within the last 7 days, and I support the 'no mystery box' rule. Who cares. I, for one, would hate to see you guys go. Hey...instead of leaving, why not just list individual books/prices for books or lots you want to sell and run normal sales threads, like the rest of us?
  12. Yep, someone's going to have to start hitting them with the ol' rules reminder template...rule #10. Don't make me do it. OK, I took the first one (DJ Diablo in G/S/B) to get the ball rollin'. Someone else take the next one... OK, I just took the second one...I hit JollyComics in G/S/B. You all feel free to jump in here...otherwise, I'm going to get to "FACT if I stop posting, trillions and trillions of transistors would be out of work" way ahead of schedule

  15. Brought this baby into the fold this week Tied with the Crippen copy for 2nd place behind a lonely 9.2
  16. I'm with you - clearly it's the 8th highest graded (CGC) copy. It's just like in golf. For example: Jordan Spieth - 9-under Dustin Johnson - 8-under Rory McIlroy - 8-under Henrik Stenson - 8-under Bubba Watson - 7-under ...Bubba is in 5th place, not 3rd.
  17. And if I could have only one Don/Maggie book, it would be this Mad #9...sincerely. Nice to know who has it. It actually holds a special place in Maggie's story. An excerpt from a Maggie interview I was reading: Toucan: Is it because of the influence of your parents that you kept reading comics as you grew older? Maggie: No, it was because comics kept being good. My interest in comics diminished until the EC line was in full flower and I bought MAD #9 off the newsstand. - See more at: http://www.comic-con.org/toucan/maggie-thompson-four-color-life-part-one#sthash.KpKlVRKq.dpuf
  18. I'm envious of this one...I love mid-grade pedigree copies...they're the best, in my book. If I could have a collection full of them, I'd be very, very happy.
  19. for my first Don & Maggie book...received today!
  20. Al recently bought my slabbed X-Men #4 on time payments - everything was smoooooth. Paid ahead of schedule, with great communication all the way around.
  21. Can someone give me the recap of what happened over in rube's G/S/B thread that's causing the dustup? Was it simply a listing error?
