  1. I did have 2 books (1 minor and 1 severe) out of 25 in my previous box and now 12 out of 25 books in this box which is ridiculous.  The box appeared not damaged in both cases.  I hope it is an isolated incidence.  I did not have any problems before.

  2. Update: CGC has just finished reviewing a previous book that was sent back with SCS and agreed to reimburse me for the book.  CGC is a very reputable company in my book and gets 5 stars.

Now I have to have them review this latest batch.  Wait until they get a load of these.

Here's my take on maybe why this is happening more of late. The design of the original new slab used tremendous pressure to hold the book in place. There was no inner well for the book to move around in with the thought that would solve some SCS problems. It turned out the longer term effect of this pressure caused the 'creep engine' effect with the comics sustaining damage. So, CGC brings back the inner well in the new slab design. This worked BUT, we now had the Newton Ring effect from the inner well pressing against slab. Never bothered me but most balked at this effect. So now, it appears, they have fixed the Newton Ring problem by having the inner well more loose in the slab. Now, the inner well is swimming and SCS is back.

I prefer the Newton Rings vs damaging my comic.

  4. Thank you Sean for the feedback:

    Black_Adam's latest submission result:

Thanks, those are all really good grades! The GL #16 (7.0) was graded 4.5 by MCS and the GL #16 (4.5) was graded 5.0 by WW but I knew it had a waterstain that would hold it back. The Flash #139 and the HOM #236 both bumped up a grade and a half from MCS and the VoH #39 also went up a full grade. I think the rest all went up a half grade - well worth it!

Hope you had a Happy New Year and there will soon be more comics headed your way!

  5. Have another book my last submission with CGC with SCS as well (Totallly Awesome Hulk #22 CGC 9.8).  I don't believe it is 9.8 with the small staple tears and shifting.

Concerned this is happening more frequently (9-12 books out of my 25 books)

    Perry,

That is some nasty SCS! I have had the rare comic damaged but it is usually to a top or bottom edge or a banged corner, not side to side. And usually it occurs on a smaller shipment from CGC, say four or less comics, when they ship them horizontally in a rectangular box that gets banged back and forth during transit. Usually with the bigger orders the slabs are shipped upright and are heavy enough that special handling is required by the courier. Your comics look like the box was dropped off the top of a building. Was there any damage to the carton? How were they shipped? FedEx?

Books were shipped in the 25 box carton so mainly upright.  I use to use FedEx and no problems.  Recently switched to UPS because issues with FedEx and CGC shipping in California.  Carton appears alright though.  The picture shows the worse one.  The others were varying degrees of shifting.

  7. I just got my most recent batch of books and I was very sad to see that 9-12 books had some damage with staple tears and mild to severe forms of Shaken Comic Syndrome (see pictures).  Has anyone else had this recently?  Did something happen at CGC to cause the comic to stick to the inner well and comic to slip and shift as seen in the pictures.  It is so ugly that I cannot even look at it.

  8. Seller offered to refund or send replacement.  Good news is that I get to keep some free reader copies. The Spawn Director's Cut comic is really cool.  The book is black and white and with the actual original art pages and with Todd's commentary/story plots.  Does anyone know if other books have this?  I feel is it totally worth reprinting and owning.
