  1. There was only the one pic, so no way to know. Really no way to know if CF or more center wraps were missing, so I think $10K was a bit of a risk. Unless they got more pics from the seller.
  2. Crazy auction just ended on eBay a short while ago. Lot of old comics, lol. Seller actually identifies that there is part of a Tec 27 (no Batman pages). But no way to know how much missing. Was at $100 when I went to bed last night. Ended at $10611 today. Wow. Could easily be worth double that, depending on what's there. Hope one of you got this, looked like 3 bidders duking it out in final minutes. I was strongly weighing a bid but went past what felt comfortable. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-Of-8-Very-Old-Raggedy-Comic-Books-No-Covers-Pulp-1930-s-40-s-/392283423936?_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l10137&nordt=true&rt=nc&orig_cvip=true
  3. I remember buying this and feeling ashamed with myself at what I paid for such a low grade copy. But it is one of those books that thrills everyone that sees it and one of my all time faves and I'm sure I'd pay far more to buy it again, it looks like a bargain today. So echoing some others, buck up when you see what you want.
  4. Yeah I've been hunting Planets since 2010 and still need 1 7 and 15 and you showed up with two of the them in your first post here so you seem quite lucky to me. I just tracked down 2 8 and 13 in the last year. But I've randomly run into tough issues, like my 10 at a small shop, you never know what will turn up. And that is one of the best aspects of it, IMO. 65 was my first issue and still a favorite. Good luck on your searching.
  5. take Gorgos and Real Life 25, if still available. Great sales thread!!
  6. @Zolnerowich Thanks for sharing those interiors! That Guardineer story is amazing, what a treat to see. And now I need to find myself a copy of Cocomalt. This also reminds me I need to share a few interiors from some recent finds...
  7. Beautiful books everyone! Another area I need to focus on, although I think I've missed the boat on prices... Feldstein was a master.
  8. Finally in receipt of my CC winnings, nothing quite like the thrill of getting 3 single digit Planets in one day (4 when you count Spyder's 6 undercopy, which arrived same day)!! But as I've been looking over my 2, I am wondering about the cover artist. CGC credits Lou Fine, but comics.org credits Eisner. I seem to recall reading something about it possibly being a collaboration... I'm sure there is a thread here somewhere, but wondering if anyone can shed any light on this.
  9. That was a wild auction. I was lucky to win two that day. Looking back at the prices, I wish I would've gone bigger on a few more. Nice work saving a summary.
  10. Yeah I recognized the name from seeing some early Tecs sell last year, but I'd like to know more about him, if anyone has any further info to offer.
  11. A few recent pickups, some of the nicest FH books I've ever owned.
  12. I was very lucky to run across an Okajima Indians 14 in one of Harley's many miscellaneous boxes yesterday. It is a post-camp copy, but my first, and I'm super-psyched to own one. The whole idea of this pedigree and the history absolutely fascinate me as much as any nugget of history in comic-dom. This one has the front and back coding and the certificate, but was de-slabbed.
  13. I have a 7 that is kinda weird. The book is fully laminated, including all interior pages. It weighs like two pounds. But it appears it was fully split down spine and brittle so it is easily readable now. Oh and the coolest part... it is signed by Joe Shuster! Here are pics showing quite a bit of the interior. Note the Flessel splash for the text story. I remember one story also features a yellow peril torture scene where they lock the victim in a body cage and introduce hungry rats. The Spy story features a great Hindenburg splash, and the disaster occurred in May of '37, so this comic was probably drawn shorty after. And of course the Thompson machine gun cover is a favorite.
  14. Here is one of mine, along with the nice ad in front. This one pre-dates the actual release of Action 1. I love the idea of opening a comic in 1938 and seeing an ad for this new book that is coming out and thinking that is something to look for next month.
  15. Nice score! I second everyone else, well done. Can't have enough Flessel in your collection, that is for sure! And those New Adventures are very tough.
  16. Things went better than expected on CC the other night... Feeling pretty good about these!
  17. Congrats on yours! Got my 12 a few weeks back from MCS. Presents amazing. But sadly missing a couple wraps. Still, it is a pleasure to behold. Gotta love the rivets!
  18. Agree with you here, I love these issues. What a trifecta for sale!!
  19. Taking home an older A-man with a classic cover and first Speed Centaur!
  20. Cross posting this here, I've already posted in the Restoration forum but wanted to get everyone here's take on this. https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/science-fiction/planet-comics-1-fiction-house-1940-cgc-fn-55-off-white-pages/a/121909-11945.s?ic2=mytracked-lotspage-lotlinks-12202013&tab=MyTrackedLots-101116 I watched this Planet Comics 1 in 5.5 sell yesterday for $6,600. I apologize in advance if you won this auction and are psyched about the book, as I'm chasing one too and I'd be excited about it. But it has clearly had color touch removed from the spine with an exacto knife or similar tool, and it appears there are even holes in the cover from this process. Leaving aside whether the grade is correct, I am of the opinion that this book should NOT be receiving a blue label. I don't believe CGC should set things up to incentivize cutting on classic books, and I'd bet the seller made a few grand off this "process". I personally think the book looks hideous now. These books have had a tough enough time lasting 80 years, why get a new generation cutting and modifying them to chase a buck? When someone is removing color touch, and in the process removing original color from the cover, they are pretty much by definition restoring/changing/conserving (take your pick) the book. I think these books should get at a minimum a Conserved label, and I think you could even argue this is a type of trimming. I'd appreciate hearing what some of you think about this issue. This also raises the secondary question of tracking provenance. I think CGC should be trying to provide provenance/history of books that have been re-subbed after these types of operations (when possible) This is no different than chain of title for a classic car or provenance for a piece of art, and would provide a buyer MORE info to tell them the history of the item and where it has been, which will help the market more fully understand one that is for sale. I realize this may not be easy. But with a Planet 1 with only 60 total graded books, it shouldn't be impossible to find out what this book was before, if it had been previously graded (obviously this would be far more difficult for a Hulk 181). And it would both cut down on re-sub grade chasers and restorers who can hide what a book was. Which also inflates the pool of information about what actually exists (and it wouldn't surprise me if they have an internal process for tracking some of these). After all what good is a census if some percentage of the total has been counted multiple times? But this is a different problem and somewhat distinct from the above.
