  1. It does sound like I need to invest some serious time reading The Spirit!
  2. Have to agree with Robot Man and comicjack, the Spectre takes the cake for me. Perhaps you could guess that from my sig line. The combination of super-hero and horror feel, the sheer variety of what he can do, the origin. I'm just wondering how he hasn't made it into a film (that being said, I wouldn't want the current people in charge to mess it up). And the later stories and covers, like the Aparo run in Adventure, his role in Kingdom Come, great stuff. Early Batman is of course so great (before he got too silly in the late fifties/sixties), and I agree with Bo on Sandman too, I love the look and feel of the early character. And I love the weirdness and origin of Dr. Fate, at least before they cut his mask in half. I've loved the Duck universe since I was young, mostly through the Duck Tales tv show, which took me decades to realize was just plots recycled from early Barks books. And I can't think of a better series to start young fans on.
  3. Love the "slide of death"! I've got a low grade example of that too. So much fun stuff going on. And if you notice, Dynamic Man actually has bullet reflecting bracelets, a full year before we see them more prominently somewhere else... I need a Daring Mystery 1 real bad, but they go for quite a bit more. That rocket car is breathtaking!
  4. That Mystic 3 is awesome. I've got just the front cover, but that scene is amazing. I recently acquired a low grade Timely which I am loving right now. Daring Mystery 2 CGC .5 missing back cvr with small amount ct and tape. The hooded menace guillotine cover is sensational. Early Schomburg rocks
  5. How much does it hurt the Cap 1 having the married centerfold, and why would this be the case? Seems to me this is much preferable to a Qualified with some other designations, like missing a chunk of a page or something like that. Does it really make the price (which we of course don't know yet) a half or a third of what a blue label would get? Seems to me like a great way to get a decent copy at a decent price (not like I can afford it). I never realized married pages hurt value so much.
  6. Absolutely stunning list of books. Each worthy of
  7. Thank you for going light on me, I think you might've taken it because I think I only went up to 2750. I was thinking it was a nice deal because the resto seemed pretty minimal for a book that looks like it is in great shape with awesome color, while the 30 was pretty rough for that price. I also really love Creig Flessel so that cover really appeals to me, even more than the Guardineer one on 30 (although it is cool too).
  8. I just scored the 34 and missed out on the 30. Should've gone a little higher! And a Daring Mystery 2 (.5 missing bc, but whatever) from same seller, feeling pretty awesome right now despite missing the biggest fish. I finally get to join the club, as I've never owned a pre-Robin Batman issue before. I spent hours trying to figure out what was repaired on that 34, but even seller's grader notes didn't help me out.
  9. Beautiful book, wish I had the funds to upgrade my copy! Got any other MFs you might consider parting with? Do you collect the title?
  10. What time zone? Clearly don't want to miss this!
  11. Thank you kind sir, yours is pretty awesome as well! I need to update it as I've picked up a couple other Spectre covers recently.
  12. I love to hear these kinds of collector stories, thanks for sharing! And you still tripled your money, that is a win in most people's minds. Now what did you reinvest in, that is the real question...
  13. Sweet books! Good luck with the sale. Startling 49 one of my all time favs!
  14. Great stuff from everyone. I'm a little late to the game, but here are my 3 favorite pickups from 2017. Happy hunting in 2018!
  15. Beautiful selection of books Rick! Got me seriously thinking about upgrading some of my copies. I would've already but I missed that 70.
  16. Absolutely fantastic! Thank you for sharing, that #1 in particular is a real stunner. I have bid on a few of these but never won one. What a great run this is.
  17. To me this thread is example #1 of why grading labels should be taken with a MAJOR grain of salt. When a savvy and knowledgeable collector/dealer can tape up a holy grail like a Tec 27 to chase a higher "rating" from some grading co and they don't even have the wherewithal to not grade a book that just got taped up with a higher grade, just wow. Talk about blowing a gaping hole in their credibility. I get that they have since made "changes" to their policies, but how the heck do you not know this when dealing with a book like a Tec 27 that they've previously graded? So much about this is just painful to consider. And I say all this as someone who would LOVE to own that copy, even with the tape, and I wish I'd had the funds in '09 to buy the 1.5 as it was a great investment. But when a few strips of tape can ADD over a hundred thousand in value, something ain't right.
  18. Beautiful books so far, with that Planet 33 leading the way! Was thinking about a move on it but too rich for my blood (and just missed it on the Bay last week when a pretty rough 2.0ish copy with holes punches almost reached $400, nearly doubling in price in the last 3 seconds). And that Pictures Stories from the Bible is just lovely with White Pages. Those Shadows are awesome as well! I jumped on a low grade Mystic 2 and a More Fun 62 (following the above comment that Purple labels are the only thing making some of these books affordable, although the work done wasn't too distracting, IMO), with that slide of death cover on the Mystic being one I've wanted for a long time. Looking forward to adding the MF 62 to my group portrait.
  19. Here is another interesting case in the same vein. Right now, Comic Link has the Mile High More Fun 43 in CGC 8.0 Blue label with minor color touch and minor glue and OW/W pages. But.... same book sold on Heritage in 2004 graded CGC 9.2 Purple label Slight Resto with small amount color touch and tear seal to cover and OW pages. So what happened? You'd think if someone removed or downgraded the resto it would be more obvious. And how do you go from 9.2 to 8.0? I can't see any major differences. Is it as simple as having a tear seal removed? And did the grading get tougher or easier? Thoughts? 20. I'd appreciate an answer to this question as well.
  21. Wow, absolutely stunning. What a group shot!
