  1. Cleaned out and moved an old dresser and some other things for my Mom over the weekend. Ran across a copy of Mile High Futures, from 88. I was headed off to App State at the time, probably my last issue . Neat nostalgia piece, check the prices
  2. More like the last 2 weeks in Bronze but trying to get a little more active on the boards
  3. l'm just a little after that, mid 70's say 74-76. Lived in Ashe County N.C. Marvel, DC and Archie were found at drug store, Roses Dept. Store, Singletons Dept. store and 2 gas stations/mini stores that my Uncle was part owner of. Likely some other spots but I only tagged along to those mentioned Never saw Harvey Comics issues. Gold Key and Charlton comics I would get from my 2 older sisters who were App State students over in Boone. Emergency! and Six Million Dollar Man were the 2 they would bring on break that I got into. Still have my original Emergency! #1. A low grade well loved copy but sentimental value off the chart.
  4. Eventually I'm going to try completing CGC runs of Tarzan and Monster of Frankenstein. Both short Marvel runs.
  5. I'm most active with comics and sports cards. I dabble a bit with advertising collectibles, hats-pens-keyrings. Some wrestling stuff, magazines-tshirts-figures. A little of this and that. Vintage Snapback hats. Posters on occasion. I'm a bit of a wanderlust collector, bouncing here and there.
  6. a. Easy. Zippy the Chimp. Dec 25, 1971 and a present day pic. If I ever get married(odds not good LOL) Zip is in the wedding. b. My childhood wasn't perfect by any stretch but it was really, really good and I never think about what I didn't get, I was blessed with everything I did get. c. None. Enjoyed them all then / now
  7. I'm not a Mister Miracle collector, but if I were I wouldn't have a problem putting that into my collection and displaying it. With no thoughts of resubmitting whatsoever. It's a really nice book
  8. First trip to a real comic book shop was in 1983, The Green Dragon in North Charleston. Had never seen anything like it. Great looking comics going way back to the 40's. Now, our local Book Exchanges always had a comic section. Some better than most. The one nearest to me, in Summerville, had a whole back room devoted to comics. On the wall there were Dell 4 Colors, numerous X-Men, Hulk, etc. Loved that place. Still have many comics remaining from there bought with gift certs or Mom & Dad's $$ back in the day. These were bought in 1982(among others), and remain with me to this day:
  9. DC got me in around late 74/ early 75 around 5 years old with Tarzan. Started reading Superman Family, Batman soon after. Didn't get into Marvel until late 76. Captain America, Daredevil, the Marvel Classics Comics series. By 1979-mid 83 when I was in full collector mode it was mostly Marvel. Cap, Iron Man, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Hulk, even Dazzler + others. Oddly no X-Men, didn't dig'em. Even when I bought back issues it was Rawhide Kid, Luke Cage / Powerman. Only DC title I bought monthly in that time frame was All Star Squadron, until Vigilante came along in late 83. I still liked Superman, Batman, other DC characters like Hawkman. But the Marvel stories just did more for me from an attention standpoint.
  10. I learned to read on Kubert Tarzans some 40+ years ago
  11. I only collect Cap and Tarzan. 8's are what I go after for personal(reminds me of my old kid collection, not perfect) reasons. I would go unsigned for a keeper like Finhead says.
  12. I collect Tarzan. From 40's Dell - 70's Marvel. I seem to be on an island most of the time, but I don't mind
  13. I tend to stick with older stuff, established. Comics and cards. Maybe 1% of what I have would be considered modern. Hell even my cologne and aftershave that I use in heavy rotation is from the 70's / early 80's
  14. I've found MCS's grading to be really tight and good. The last couple of years especially.
  15. Being the sentimentalist I am I've still got the first comic I ever picked off a spinner rack and the first comic I(okay, Mom/Dad ) ever bought at a comic store. Picked out the Batman in a Mountain City Tennessee drugstore in 1976. While not the first comic I ever had, this is the first one I ever got off a rack. My Mom , Dad, one of my sisters had bought me a few before without me tagging along. All things considered, not too beat up.
