  1. Ugh.

Seriously, die hard collectors who have been grading books on their own accord for what I would presumably say is at least 25 years for each of the board members who have replied to this....should be able to confidently assign ANY grade to a modern age book. That was my original point.

I was using all that DS # 1 conjecture as an anecdote but YES, I will back what I said with a $100 bet. There is a chance that I could be wrong, of course but nonetheless, I stand behind my grading.

My original post noted that I had not looked at the books in a while and they needed to be pressed, in order to fetch a 9.9....at least 1 of them should get a 9.9, possibly 2.

After I press them and there is no trace of any indentation and if they look 9.9 to me.Then yes, I'll put my $100 where my mouth is.

I'll take your $100, though that's a lot of additional conditions you added.

If you do go through with this you may learn that CGC don't give out Copper 9.9's as easily as you think.

I've only ever had two but they were both doozies.....ASM #238 and X-Men #211.

CGC only other guys give the 9.9's away

  2. I talk to lots of kids:

    Iron man #1 with/ Wolverine

    Batman

    spider-man

    Hulk SMASH !

    Captain America

    x-men

    Thor

    --------------------------------------------------

    Tier 2

    Dead-pool

red skull (shocks me but they know a lot about him)

    changeling (beast boy)

    Star wars

    TMNT

Be on the look out for Kamala khan young girls love her ! cant wait till she has a cartoon or something.

Harley is hot and has a following but I would not say top 5 !

Its all about the cartoons and the marketing the movies have made a huge impact ! and the toys

  3. See I wouldn't chase MTU 55 for that. It would have to be more for me like Avengers Annual 7 or something like that.

I just used Hulk 248 for the Gardner.

Marvel Two In One Annual 7 is another one I have been actively chasing in high grades.

Gardner's 1st appearance is Marvel team-up #55 and the beginning of the story that goes to avengers annual #7 - Definitely some Gem history as well. The first appearance of three(3) of the gems is credited to Marvel premiere #1.

    1st Gardner

1st mention of infinity stones (6) I think blazincomics shows that panel (good work)

    1st stasis arcs

Not a KEY but if mentioning hulk #248 this book should be mentioned with it. It does tie into the mystery of the stones .

  4. Ams #300 and NM #98 are loaded with high grade copies Hulk #181 is not even close to the same percentages and arguably wolverine is A -list character and more sought out than the others.

X-force number 2 is never going to see the same submitted numbers of the others, the value will drop before it gets to that point.

For as popular as wolverine is Hulk 181 does have a ton of copies compared to silver age key books but is not even in the same category as NM #98 Hulk #181 is super rare compared to the modern keys.

    Demand vs supply = price

HULK #181 (will hold and keep crawling out of its depressed prices, like it has been)

    Near Mint/Mint 9.8 83 0 6 0 89 =649 high grade copies

    Near Mint + 9.6 229 1 23 7 260

    Near Mint 9.4 337

    NM #98

    Near Mint/Mint 9.8 1482 4 198 1 1685 = 4509 high grade copies

    Near Mint + 9.6 1693 14 226 2 1935

    Near Mint 9.4 889

    AMS #300

    Near Mint/Mint 9.8 533 3 124 3 663

    Near Mint + 9.6 1622 14 285 20 1941 =4352 high grade copies

    Near Mint 9.4 1748

    X-force #2

    Near Mint/Mint 9.8 373 0 38 0 411

    Near Mint + 9.6 90 0 7 0 97 =538 just started.

    Near Mint 9.4 30

  5. 5 years? No Quick flip? I will list a few, some that are not the keys everyone is listing if you get them cheap you will do well in 5 years.

    Hmm

    Eternals 1st appearances Especially Sersi

    Demon 1

    Giant Size Defenders 3

    Avengers 167

    Avengers 162

    Hulk 228

    Hulk 248 & MARVEL TEAM -UP #55

Star Wars 1 (Yeah it will bump up)

fixed it. I agree with Sersi

  6. Just a reminder. Marvel no longer has the trademark for The Champions. There will never be another Champions comic.

"Since 1987, Heroic Publishing has used the name "The Champions" for a role-playing game series which has been adapted into comic books. The United States Patent and Trademark Office has ruled that Marvel abandoned its trademark of the name and can no longer use "The Champions" as the name of a comic book series. A planned 2007 revival of the series was renamed The Order."

Good info I did not know that !
  7. So does this mean that the Obelisk/Diviner is one of the Norn Stones? Will Asgard feature in the future of this plot-line somehow?

    Dan

It was the Terrigen crystals. I agree that was reader at the end. He has been in a couple of issues and seems like a decent character. I have read they have big plans for him.

In the comic he rescues a girl in china ( raina?) if not she could just be the current 616 raina. Some of her story could fit. I don't think it's Tigra but who knows.

  8. I know how to grade (decent) It does matter to me as well as several other collectors . You guys are dealers I am a collector and a customer. Feedback from people that spend money on books is always good right?

If i purchased a CBCS slab for the book, I would want it to match my collection . I would re-slab it and take the chance that the 2 company's grading standards where the same and I would have to pay more cash for the re-slab. Seems like a hassle and would rather just buy the CGC slab.

Why does the other company's books get priced the same as CGC books with so little history? If OSPG is so outdated it just seems risky to buy the unproven commodity regardless of the new company's CEO's history.

+1. It is my understanding that the vast majority of CBCS submissions have been and still are by dealers, so they do have a vested interest in promulgating the notion that there "is no difference in pricing" between the two companies realized. While I have seen some comparable pricing realized in grade when their slabs first started hitting the market, at least half the time, and even more frequently as time goes on, CBCS slabs go for less. The company has yet to earn mass market acceptance, and I agree with Paul, there is no reason why that should automatically happen overnight, just because some big time dealers decide to use them early, most likely because CBCS offered a discount for the business, and yety still expect to realize comparable CGC slab prices at auction. That is just not a realistic expectation IMO. I too am only a collector, and I know that I would never buy a CBCS slab either for many reasons. Here are a few of them:

    1) I don't like their labels. Too much fine print. Details about the grading are good, but I don't want to suffer eye strain trying to figure out what they say is going on with a book.

    2) Restored books have the same looking labels as non-restored books. This literally only benefits the seller of the book and/or the person who submits the books for grading. This seems an obvious kow-tow to those who wish to de-stigmatize restored books, but all it does is make me scroll right past CBCS books on the occasion I see them listed. If I'm doing it you can assume there are 1000 others doing the same thing.

    3) Not all CBCS labels disclose trimming, simply because it's "obvious". I don't care if it's "obvious" or not, if the book is trimmed the grading company needs to put it on the label, front and center.

    4) CBCS will "verify" an un-witnessed signature. Unless they have hand writing experts trained at Quantico on staff, sorry, you shouldn't be doing that.

    5) I am.not going to buy a CBCS slab because whenever I see one my first question is, "what was the person's reason/incentive for sending this book to CBCS instead of CGC?" and "Is there something about this book that CBCS won't disclose that CGC would?"

    6) If I have 100 CGC slabs, why would I want another random mis-matched slab, and especially of a super mega key book from a company that just started?

This has nothing to do with the integrity of the company, and competition isn't a bad thing. I also understand that there would be no point of their existence if they simply duplicated everything CGC does exactly. But CBCS is very late to the game, and the market is very conditioned to what CGC has done. And since they are the ones who came up with the entire slabbing and grading concept, it only makes sense that there is, and will likely continue to be, difference in realized prices. +100 and thank god someone that can write explained it better !

Personally, I wouldn't take Pedigree sales as an indication of market. Pedigree's market is limited because some people refuse to deal with Doug's past.

Personally, after seeing many examples of their books I have no problem with CBCS's grading standards.

I get it , that was just one example. I personally would not buy a book in their slab.

If you own a slab with an old label, you already have. Now, they just don't say 'CGC' on them.

Its not just about CGC on the label. Its the trust in the company. In time maybe but not now. There have been several slabs that look over graded from them and 9.9's are given out like candy.

Cgc has their "tight" and "loose" periods what was the time the "other guy was at CGC labled as ?

  12. Some thoughts and observations on the recent CC and C Link auctions for the AF 15:

The 3.0 on CC went for $9200. A very strong number for this grade, especially since 3.0's were selling for under $8k just a few months ago. 3.0's approaching $10k is just unbelievable.

That nice looking 6.0 going for over $30k was a very strong price and over $5k more than the last 6.0 went for in April (on GPA).

The result for the 7.5 graded by CBCS on CC shows that this new grading company is still not ready for prime time. The $48k realized is about what a CGC 7.0 goes for. I have seen quite a number of CBCS books under-performing compared to comparably graded CGC books.

The $85k realized for the 8.0 SS on CC was average. But I think it is common knowledge that that book has been repeatedly pressed and monkied with, and starting off at a 7.0.

The $25k+ realized on the comic link auction for the 6.0 with "white pages" on the label once again suggests that Marvel chipping is the biggest detractor on price for this book.

the 7.5 cbcs under performed due to the MC...had it of been a clean edge, I would have bid much higher (as would have many)... had nothing to do with "which" company graded it, but rather the eye appeal (imo)...I realize the same retail for both companies as long as comparable pq and eye appeal

hm That CBCS "7.5" had fairly light chipping to be taking a neatly $20k hit compared to a comparably graded CGC 7.5...

I have noticed CBCS books going for less on many occasions. I don't believe that company should automatically get the same prices and credibility as CGC. I have also noticed dealers that at first sent books into CBCS and a lot of those books are still sitting on their sites unsold. The 9.6 CBCS DD #1 that was on pedigree with a huge blunted corner did not seem like it belonged in a 9.6 holder. (shrug)
