It's not a "glue" issue. Your logic doesn't follow: if these books can be faked in the manner that you and Jaydogrules are claiming, then they are damaged books, and should be worth little to nothing....not "50 bucks", tops or not.

I am not claiming anything ! There was a site and i don't remember exactly what it was , I discounted it and the book it self. . also many many people have claimed that people have manipulated this book. Also your logic is off the error is damage!

So, you know what the answer to that is, then...

    YES:foryou:

Be positive and don't get frustrated by better type-rs!

I just want someone to positively verify that they have seen or peeled the foil. I actually think the video i saw a while ago, did show the foil off, If it really is a glue issue, it could be a leftover pattern on the book that could be similar, depending on where the glue was strong on the book. If that is the defect I really don't see how CGC could ever be able to tell the difference? If that is the case someone has been making a fortune slowly making these and submitting them. I wonder if there has been a slow, but constant CGC sub of this RARE mistake? If it can be a manufactured error then it is a crime and CGC should stop recognizing it as a special book. Should say "CAN BE MANIPULATED" and should be 50 bucks, tops!

I am sorry that you're unfamiliar with the critical thought process, whereby one derives answers to questions they have by objectively analyzing the facts to arrive at a conclusion. If I "always come across" in some manner, I would suggest that that is your interpretation, reading into comments your own biases, rather than what is actually written on the screen.

If you think there is a "strong possibility that these can be faked" in a manner that will fool CGC (which is the basis of this entire discussion), again..for the third time...I invite you to share such evidence. If you have no evidence, however, I would ask you to consider your obligation to your fellow collectors to not spread rumors that are unsubstantiated.

Really, I think you like to type! Go play in the wind man! I think a lot of people would get the impression that you type in circles.  Your should be called twist me amadeus

Dude! What I know or don't know about this book isn't relevant, nor am I making any claims about it. Someone claimed that a book someone else was selling was fake, and that he knew how it was faked. When asked for proof, claimant was unwilling and unable to provide any.

I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say "claimed that this happens." What is "this"? That these books are faked? Or that fakes are produced that fool CGC?

The answer to the first is "yes, absolutely", and the answer to the second is a solid "no."

By all means, if you have evidence of this book being faked in a way that will fool CGC, share it. The community needs to be aware of these things, wouldn't you agree?

Whatever your an enigma wrapped in a riddle DUDE ! you always come across like you know the answer, but in reality your just the devils advocate, I get it.  I know nothing for a fact about this book !  but the strong possibility that these can be faked ! you made it sound like you knew the material and had knowledge about it being not likely.

    The book isn't embossed.

Again if you're entirely unfamiliar with the book, the process used to make it, and the process to "create" fakes, how can you possibly say, with any degree of certainty, that the example you pointed to is an example of one...?

Dude! you know so much about this book and the process, Is it possible? , I mean I have been hearing it for years and there was something on the net a while back that I cant find. Seems like many, many people have mentioned or claimed that this happens , Are you saying that this has never happened? are you saying that its impossible? Do you know something that can put this "rumor" to bed?

Well i dont know anyone on here personally, nor do i have a horse in this race, but i do know a few years ago an ebay user did contact me with a proposition to buy about 10 or so black venom error comics.  When i asked how he acquired them after talking about how great a character venom was to us gro3qing up, he did confide in me that he knew a gentleman/collector who did indeed successfully remove the red chrome and had sent a bunch of them to cgc to be graded over the years.  All came back legit error comics, though he had made them.  The guy did show me pics of the 10 or so that he was going to sell me but i was turned off by how they werent legit errors.  With that said, id love to hear if anyone on here had tried removing the chrome and succeeded.

Book is a joke period, Should be worthless !

Here's my approach to answering the question. I'd say a "true key" has the following properties:

    • A book that isn't artificially scarce, so no incentive variants

    • A book that would have been available for pretty much anyone to order in advance at cover price (or a discount to cover price, with services that offer them) or been able to pick up for cover price in a store that ordered them

    • Has staying power past the run of whatever creative team made the book/character popular. (This is why I would discount many Image books, even The Walking Dead. I think once Kirkman is done with the book, that book will start to drop in value. It's never going in the dollar bin, but there will be a steady decline. Availability won't be significant, because too many people will be hesitant to part with the book if it's decreasing.)

    • Demand exceeds supply by a significant margin.

With that in mind, I think the best bet (and this will probably come as no surprise, considering my avatar) is Valiant books. They're selling a fraction of the numbers that Marvel and DC are, they're publishing a shared universe, and they have movies on the horizon. The problem with books featuring Marvel and DC characters that will be appearing in movies/on TV, is that there's not a ton of room for growth, unless either company decides to push an obscure character (e.g. Guardians of the Galaxy). Everyone who is already collecting comics already knows who the major players from those companies are, and either are or aren't buying the comics. Comic-based movies/television doesn't do a lot to convert viewers into readers. With good movies, Valiant stands to gain readers *amongst people that are already collecting comics* but don't know enough about the characters. Since the 2012 relaunch, there have been a number of new characters introduced, and a number of characters that have been significantly redesigned to essentially be new characters. Many of these books have reported Comichron numbers below 10K, some around 5K. If good movies spurs enough interest in Valiant to raise their readership to even 2% of the market, then that's basically doubling their readership. Back issues are tough to find in many cases (even the non-variants). Add in a new fan base, and any key issue will pretty much disappear, if you can even find one out there now.

If your going to be so specific. Kamala Khan presses all of those buttons.  Here to stay and growing in popularity. The CM17 is not a variant, its a 2nd print with a never seen before 1st appearance cover. even her other "Key" books are not huge print runs. If your talking the last 5 years I don't think there is a more KEY character!

Valiant has way to many incentive variants ! way to many, in fact it turned off a ton of fans and buyers me included. My 2c.  I also do not think that most properties have the power and reputation to keep characters alive and popular like DC and Marvel.

Great point.   I think this also limits the ability of creator owned properties of becoming mega keys.  The reason the legacy characters are so known, important, and valuable is they are perpetual. With  the creator owned stuff, if the creator decides to stop and the property is not a movie IP or the like, do those eventually fade away.

I think that is already happening to a degree with Walking Dead.  I doubt it will ever reach the highs it was at 5 or 6 yes ago again.

I agree. If the creator holds back on their best stuff while working for the big guys. It is almost impossible that their best stuff will ever be main stream .The 2 big company's bring a lot to the table.

I’m gonna say this was a bad decision. Over paid on a mis wrapped book. Better pray for a block buster movie and a big name star.

Did this really sell for 50 grand? WOW that seems a little high

I agree completely. This is the tip of the iceberg. Avengers craze lasted 10+ years. X-men hasn't even started yet.

I'll add that I think X-men will be predominately a streaming service IP though. This will likely become the future of the MCU in my opinion. There's more money in streaming and distributing your own movies than there is in the crazy amount of advertising that goes into blockbuster movies.

This +1000 i see them taking the entire 616 and doing all the things they used to do in comics on streaming. I really think in 10 years this will be the new comic world.

Refresh my memory - when did I tell you $20 a box?  $20 a long is the going rate for 90s books and store overstock but I’m surprised I would go with the $20 a long if there was older or better stuff.  But if you sold a few of the better boxes for $1,000 and are sitting in a bunch of stock you can see why dealers have to offer low since they get stuck with a lot of very hard to sell stuff in pretty much every deal.

LOL you must have just automatically thought I had 90s books. I should have taken some pictures or you as a dealer maybe should not think everyone has 90s stock. :foryou: no there is still a lot of gold left , it just takes so much time if your not committed to it. boxes and boxes of late bronze and cooper. i am glad I actually went thru it at one point i just wanted to dump it and feel free, I would have really lost out.

Whipple - There are enough decent books left to make an offer but the fact that he has taken the time to make a list it usually means his sell price is usually double if not triple what I can pay.  The lack of big ticket keys makes it just a ton of work to sell one at a time and thus the price paid has to be very low which leads to a mad / disappointed seller.

No offense 1cool but you told me 20 bucks a box for my un- picked stock and I ended up going thru some of it and sold the boxes for about $1000.00 a box. I still have tons of boxes left, but if i settled on selling for the dealer rate I was getting robbed. I think that is why there are a lot of sellers, its easy if you take the time.

The price of Hero For Hire 1 seems to have been slowly dropping for a little while now.  I think Spider-Woman is next... Spotlight 32 and Spider-Woman 1 aren't that hard to find.  I don't know what's keeping them afloat.

time to buy high grade copies
