  1. What about people collecting the new Valiant??? And you could say the same about many comics. What about stuff like "Bone"??? Very limited scope, as it's just one (or two?) self-contained series. But it still gets money and accolades. Just depends on rarity, quality, etc. Same with the Turtles. They died off, now they're back. Even if they weren't, you'd still get collectors. You can't compare Harbinger to the Turtles or even Bone. The Turtles have been in movies, cartoons, comics, toys, pretty much nonstop for nearly 30 years. The are constantly creating new fans, young fans. Bone, while not as popular as the Turtles, has been reprinted countless times by a very large non-comic publisher -- Scholastic. There are a ridiculous number of copies of those in print, numbers that dwarf Harbinger's numbers. Also, the first printing of Bone #1 was much, much smaller than Harbinger, and is legitimately much harder to find. Harbinger was a short-lived series that at one time was incredibly popular. The first issue may be a top-20 modern book now, but I don't think it's going to last. The most recent sales through Diamond were under 10,000 copies, the 199th most ordered book that month. I don't mean they're exactly the same. I was just trying to say that just because one group of collectors stops collecting something, that doesn't mean that no one else will start.
  2. [quote=kimik Looking at the census numbers right now, out of the 717 copies of Harby #1 slabbed to date, 131 have come back at 9.8 (blue, green and yellow labels), which means a little over 18% of the slabbed copies have hit that grade. That number does not seem to indicate it is as tough to land in 9.8 (basically a 1 in 6 chance) as I thought it would be - I expected it to be in the 6-8% range due to the long known production issues. If that number holds for the entire print run, then you are looking at 8000+ potential 9.8 candidates. Even if that rate is halved to 9% of the print run, that is still over 4000 copies in total as potential 9.8 books. BUT... you have to take into account the fact that there may be a lot of copies that people think aren't good enough to submit. If there's a lot sitting out there that would only get a 9.0, 8.0 etc, then they're never going to get submitted, and therfore this may be keeping that high 1:6 ratio going. Plus, isn't there the coupon thing to consider??? How does that factor in? Is the WITH coupon one worth more (I THINK it is, if I remember correctly). Many people may thinkg "Well, coupons not in, no point in submitting. All this talk of Harbinger #1 is making me want to get mine slabbed.
  3. The morning is good for music videos. A lot of time my wife and I will just watch like MuchMusic (i.e. Canadian MTV), MuchMoreMusic, or MusiquePlus (Quebec MTV, get to see some really goofy or non-manstream stuff, haha). Gets the energy going in the morning, and keeps us hip with the times.

  5. Very true for the variant thing. Only so many to go around. Especially for the ones that are very limited, or the ones that are actually cool and in demand.
  6. 1-About the wannabe X-Men thing, I mean, most Superhero comics are just copies of previous stuff. Not much you can do with them after so many years. 2-Regarding the Acclaim books, since there seems to be a few Valiant fans. Anyone know which Acclaim book had the first use of the Hip Flask character in a Comicraft advertisement??? I will be ETERNALLY grateful for this information. FYI Starkings couldn't even tell me. I just can't seem to find this info on the web.
  7. Never picked up any Valiant as a kid (was around 10-12 at the time), just Marvel. I did pick up X-O Manowar when it relaunched, though, based on the premis of the book. Thought it looked interesting, and am glad I did. It's pretty good. Picked up Harbinger, Bloodshot, and Shadowman as well. (to read, plus as a bit of speculation). I've kept Harbinger (have read maybe first 6 issues). Read the first 2 issues of the others, and just haven't got around to the rest. I ended up cutting them for budget reasons. They weren't bad though, but only so much Moo-La to go around.
  8. EXACTLY! (thumbs u Action Comics #1 has probably atrocious writing and a boring story, but no one's passing that up EVER. HAHAHAHA!!! Could you imagine??? "O, sorry, I don't really collect Superman comics" "Naw, I'll pass. I'm more of a Marvel guy".
  9. So true regarding the "Mythical Case". No one would sit on something like that for so long. If they could be making 300, 500, 1000 bucks per issue, it would have happened. Just regarding space even, like, a Mythical Case X every book that that rumour pops up about = a TONNE of boxes.
  10. Superbowl ads don't hurt. At least SOME of you guys get the good adds.
  11. I've read the first 2 I think. Wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. I'm still sort of confused as to why the kids did what they did. Seems kind of stupid, pointless, and forced. read past #2 for some answers Hahaha. Ya, will have to. I MAY have read 3. Not sure.

  14. Clint would have been a PERFECT Wolverine in his Fistful of Dollars persona. Also, Clancy Brown would make THE perfect Cable.
  15. I'm assuming you guys didn't watch the new Jump Street movie? . That movie looks AWFUL.
  16. Josh Holloway (a la Sawyer) IS Gambit. I think they even may have suggested it, but he didn't want to be typecast or something. :frustrated: Josh Holloway would be a cool gambit. I wish they would have casted Jim Caviezel as batman. ( check the show person of interest, you'll understand why) I thought Josh Holloway was great in Lost. He has a lot of swagger and confidence which I think would be perfect for Gambit. And the hair. That WAS Gambit's hair.

I wish they would have casted Jim Caviezel as batman. ( check the show person of interest, you'll understand why) 1-Ya, for sure! The character of Sawyer is quite similar to Gambit. 2-Person of Interest is amazing. I thought it would mostly just be episode to episode, the same thing. Good, but repetitive. It actually has quite a bit of variety and multiple layers of depth.
  18. is there anything special about any of the books that heat up here lately? Great stories.

  20. It also depends on what else the seller has going. If they have a ton of good stuff and buyers are looking specifically at their goods, not searching for specific books, that can drive up the price. I was watching ASM #317 last night in two places. One seller had a lot of nice bronze & copper issues, but not in the best quality, as was the ASM in question. The other seller had a much better grade copy but it sold for less. Excactly. I'd much rather pay $15 extra for those if I can get , say, get 10 other comics shippped with it in the same order.
  21. This is true. I remember ordering 20 copies because I liked the preview in previews. U mean Todd's first appearance
  22. Only if it the title gets more popular. (thumbs u Supply AND demand. Tiny print runs are no guarantee of appreciation. On the flip side, Batman 1's large print run was absorbed by demand. Ya. On the MAX, if 1 copy per person, then only 7,000 + ??500 trade paperbacks + online = the number of readers. So at the MOST, only like 10,000-15,000 people could actuall be reading or have read this series.
