  1. ???What do you mean??? That was probably one of the most anticipated, hyped, and sure-fire hit series to come out in the last 5 years. And with 37,000, people were deffinetly betting on it.
  2. You really shouldn't be down with any recent Image title having a shot of appreciating that much if at all. There will be a small margin on some titles insofar as they may no longer be available on the shelves after X amount of months. However, I reckon the secondary market for these is long term dead in the flood water. Image and retailers are now absorbing the additional speculator interest by pretty much doubling the print run of #1's since last year. (Saga is the exception here, but that was too hot not to print so many). #1 of anything like Pretty Deadly, East of west, Black Science, Velvet .... etc etc will be the most common issue available. Unless there is an unusually large spike in interest they are also not likely to grow the readership to a level that will be higher than the #1 print run ever. Slim chance of it happening. The Walking Dead did not do over 30K printed for a long long long time. Walking Dead 81 $2.99 Image 30,750 Feb-11 When Image titles were the thing to chase #1's generally had the lowest print run and were either reprinted or pretty damn hard to find. 2013 Pretty Deadly 3* $3.50 Image 21,079 Dec-13 Pretty Deadly 2* $3.50 Image 23,581 Nov-13 Pretty Deadly 1* $3.50 Image 45,833 Oct-13 Black Science 2* $3.50 Image 20,151 Dec-13 Black Science 1* $3.50 Image 40,873 Nov-13 Velvet 2* $2.99 Image 25,549 Dec-13 Velvet 1* $3.50 Image 41,897 Oct-13 2012 Manhattan Projects 1 $3.50 Image 17,955 Mar-12 Thief of Thieves 1* $2.99 Image 17,877 Feb-12 Saga 1* $2.99 Image 37,641 Mar-12 2009 Chew 1 $2.99 Image 5,246 Jun-09 2003 Invincible 1 $2.95 Image 10,751 Jan-03 Walking Dead 1 $2.95 Image 7,266 Oct-03 Pick an Image title this year... any one of their new releases that you think is the best one and buy 10 copies. That speculation is now accounted for and absorbed. There's nothing wrong in making profit on these, $1, $2... maybe $5??? That's great. However, I can't see the same kind of $30 or $60 appreciation that happened on titles in 2012. I would imagine that RRPs will still be chased on hot titles but those can be fickle in their own ways. I know there are returns when something is overstocked, but it still stands to reason that the speculator interest is being absorbed. It wasn't going to stay in rinse / repeat mode forever (thumbs u
  3. I was thinking more like Sliders personally.... But the Quantum Space Slide just sounds like a dance move. I used to watch Sliders all the time. I really enjoyed that show. (thumbs u
  4. Thrown together with Lost in Space. Si!!!! I've never seen Lost in Space, but from what I know of it, yes, it reminded me of that as well. So, Quantum Space? Lost in Leap?
  5. Hahaha.. Getting a lot done at work today, so I have time to take breaks.
  6. I am wondering why too, it's better than most comics that have come out in recent months. I'm down on the book's chances of appreciating, rather than the book itself. I don't see it having the features that suggest that it will be a market darling. And, by market, I mean the great big comic collecting world that exists outside of this board, where the superhero hegemony is still intact, and many collectors don't look twice at non Marvel or DC books. Personally, I found the art and story to be below par, but that's just my opinion. As a contrast, I like Blackacre, a book that's not everyone's cup of tea here, but I'm also down on its chances of appreciating, for the same reasons as above. Only read Pretty Deadly #1 so far. Story was sort of confusing, so I'm hoping it fleshes out in the following issues. Finished all of my Blackacres. GREAT story. No clue if it will go up or down in value, but is there actual hate for the story??? It was pretty interesting, good pacing, etc.
  7. 1-Hahaha! I LOVE looking at those!, the "upcoming" movies. Was looking at a few recently, and it's just SOOOOOO bad how off some of the articles were, in terms of "this movie is coming out THIS fall, etc". Some of the movies came out 10 years after the article, others have yet to come out. And they wrote it with such certainty. 2- Moi Auci. Part of the reason why I love reading this and other boards so much. Just love to see the trends and history. Love seeing other peoples opinions (I really don't have many, if any "comic" friends to discuss speculation with).
  8. I do the whole shebang. Comics, action figure, and statues. I even have a prop costume from LOST.
  9. They're comparable to Bowen in scale and price. I like the sculpts but don't like the fact that they're made out of PVC. does the PVC make them feel/look cheap? I wouldn't say cheap, but to my eyes they look a little too shiny/plasticy. Something about the texture bothers me. Take it with a grain of salt though; I've only ever seen two of them in person, and many collectors swear by that company. And if Ebay prices are any indication, they are gaining lots of popularity. One thing that's for certain is, the (retail) price is right. I have the Cable one, and it's pretty PIMP.
  10. (thumbs u .....and THAT'S how most comics gain and retain value ladies and gentleman.
  11. Question: Why did it get pumped so much? It was talked about a lot on here, everyone was going nuts for it, now apparently the prices have gone done, and it's considered a bust. 1-Why did it get heavily speculated on? 2-Why is it down now? In this case, it feels like it's almost the board members own faults. I keep seeing these same cycles; comic get tones of talk WAY too early on, people go in to a frenzy about it, the bloodlust wears off, people forget about the comic, and it go down to normal prices and interest, left to continue on a normal comic value/popularity trajectory.
  12. See: All comments from today. I know. It's actually sort of getting annoying that this mind set is setting in in some places. People are getting greedy with this instant gratitude stuff (needing huge profits within 2 weeks of issue #1 hitting shelves, stories needing to be phenomenal after 3 issues, a 1 month delay should mean the end of the creators careers, etc etc etc). Think of how many issues it took other great series to really get off the ground and hit their strides. :frustrated:
  13. I'm a little bit invested in EoW. I still have 50 raw #1s. I think the the time to sell has passed. However, I don't mind holding on just in case there is a some sort of TV/Movie rumor. Living on a prayer here, but alot of us are. What you said HAS to be put in the context of selling within 6 months-1 year, and/or selling for a large, quick profit. Most popular, well-done series (something comparable to East of Dub, in terms of quality, popularity, and scarcity) that last for, say 50-100+ issues or so, their #1's usually sell for a decent price over time. Don't forget, it's only in the last 5 years or so that comic value is being bolstered by TV and Movies. Unless you NEED to seel soon, just chill and try to think long-term. Think Sandman and Y.
  14. I'm not as heavily invested in EoW as most, but I guess id have to disagree. I have no evidence to support my claim here, but I think it will steadily rise...especially considering it's projected to last 50+ issues (or 16 years for those of you counting by Nowhere Men time). It's a top seller from the LCSs in my area. IF (and only if) the book fulfils its 50+ issue projection, I think demand will be slowly driven by the quality of the story, not by tv/movie speculation...kinda like YTLM........kinda. This is my thinking too. This isn't just a top stack book for me. Its THE top of the stack. Rat Queens, Todd, and now Manifest Destiny are right next to it. (thumbs u to Rat Queens. I didn't order it, but picked up a few from the stores for investment. Finally decided to give it a read 2 weeks ago, and have now added it to my reading orders. I like fantasy, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, etc, but don't really go for it in comics or novels. Just too much of it out there, kind of all the same, etc. Rat Queens was definitely a good read.

I think people have kind of become greedy with this type of stuff, in the sense that they get pissed if something spikes then drops within the span of 4 issues. Relax, gents. Give it time to simmer. Y wasn't told in three months.
  16. I actually wasn't alluding to the Black and White vs different cover, but thanks for making me sound smarter Your correct though, and a good point. Personally, I can't stand Black and White, or sub-par variants that go for high prices just because of scarcity.
  17. If the finished product turns out anywhere close to as nice as the production photos, that piece is going to be an all-time classic. I preordered the exclusive before it sold out. I too am already trying to formulate the excuses to give the wife once it shows up on our doorstep...but I couldn't resist. IT'S WORTH IT. So, now, go buy it, so I'm not alone in being nagged. I think it's hilarious how scared guys are of their wives. Hahahahah!!!
  18. Thx Swick! (thumbs u Nice Poster! I just put up the Djurdjevic X-Men, and Wolverine ones in my basement. (thumbs u
  19. Okay, I stand corrected somewhat. Manifesto would have to get pretty popular for the 250 variant to be close in price. The East of West RRP is pretty awesome. It's the same add they had up for the series, and I kept wondering where that cover was going to be until they actually came out with that variant.
  20. The thing is, too, with them, unless you REALLY like one particular character, once you have a Wolverine statue, or a few of them, that's kind of the limit for THAT character that you'll buy. So, the market for each character has a limit as well, and the availability of certain characters is large also, so those things play in to prices.
  21. Very true with the age thing. There will be awesome older ones, which can get hard to find, but generally the newer ones get better and better in terms of look, design, concept, etc. With regards to eBay, I find also that supply at any given time can be wonky. Sometimes you may see 30 of the same Thanos statue, and others times, there may only be 2 available, leading people to believe there's not many out there ( or tones available, in the other case).
