  1. Youre not the first one to not know that this blockbuster of a film was based on the comic book. Its amazing to me that the production crew of the film chose to adapt this book, especially at that time when comic book based characters weren't the status quo. This particular scenario teaches us alot about what happens so often today with licensed properties. The comic book was first optioned by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald in 1992 2 years after the book came out (by 1992 there were ONLY two 3 book limited series published by Aircel/Malibu). But the story/concept probably resonated so strongly with the production crew that they pursued this film to perfection it seems, after rejecting a complete take by director Les Mayfield. I could never imagine this happening to a comic book in the 90s created by relatively unknown artist/writer, and published by a very independent publisher at the time. I wouldve loved to hear the producers source of inspiration. Did they read the comic themselves? did they know the writer/artist? Was there any agenda to adapting this comic to film other than its inspiring writing? Wish there was a documentary about this
  2. Picked this guy up for 60 bucks from Freeport this morning. I've ALWAYS wanted one and couldnt believe when the seller asked for only 60. He also had a Wonder Woman Brian Bolland statue which he tried to package with Supes for 150.00, and although the price point was good for both I only went for the Supes Happy July 4th everyone!
  3. It's not full time for me but it may very well be. That's the charm of selling comics today. I can comfortably retire doing nothing but comics and real estate. Both provide tremendous cash flow and ROI. Each with its proportionate capital investment amount. Does it make sense for me to sell a 1$ book at 10$? Of course it does!! I have hundreds of boxes, 5 selling outlets, and nothing but time on my hands. Can I be more productive doing other things? Sure I can but I won't enjoy it as much.. actually I won't enjoy it at all. I gave up djing 2 years ago because of comics. Think about that for a second. I gave up a profession that I pursued for years that brought me nothing but joy for Decades. Because it no longer made sense to me to carry speakers to a gig and make 500$ when I can do that shipping sometimes 1 book in a package. 20 years ago I used to whore my DJ services just to get my foot in the door at a residency. Now doing an easy laid back gig at a downtown bar for 5 hours at 60$ an hour, getting drunk and flirting with chicks half my age doesn't interest me anymore Yes I admit. I got lazy. I got lazy and I got smarter. Ok ok.. I may have gotten a bit older as well
  4. Ive narrowed the search with criteria corresponding prices Spiderman 13
  5. It is finally upon us... 90's card dealers predicted it some 25 years ago and it has finally arrived: Modern Drek's payback time You know Drek, the bstard son of Image, Valiant, Marvel and DC. Well it looks like hes all grown up now and he's marching in with a vengeance. But the big question is... DID YOU PREPARE FOR HIS ARRIVAL? Did you stock up heavily on such titles as Shadowman 8, Spider Man 1 Gold reprint or even Spawn Batman ? Or maybe you preferred to just hold on to the NUMEROUS 1:100 newsstand variants of Spawn #1? (its called a joke ok????) No no no.. In this thread, were not gonna speculate on print runs, scarcity, or collection preferences. We all know Drek doesnt posses those qualities Were only gonna talk about Modern Drek thats heating up! For a book to apply, one has to have at least 4-5 sales in the $10 average. A $20 sale makes said drek - uber drek. And anything $50 and above gets a No Drek prize which I will reward to the notifier here on the forms. (its really nice I promise). BUT, it HAS to be Drek!! Speculation on upcoming heating Drek is, as always, very welcome here

  7. Chuck is a newsstand god But then again... I bought THIS from him so I cant really hate him that much
  8. Youre right! I didnt even bother checking the other sold listings duh Some of the 90s drek he moved actually may give a new meaning to the old "put-your-kids-through-college-with-comic-books" adage! Example A Example B And while no one may find this surprising today... Example C wouldve been a fantasy only a little over a year ago
  9. Does this count? Oh wait... Sorry, missed the "Bronze Age" part
  10. You know that the market gets extremely volatile when buyers apply stock rules to comic books... I assume the buyer thinks he can sell 300 copies at (even) 8 a pop at a click of a button..
  11. But wait... Theres more! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Modern-Valiant-SHADOWMAN-61pc-High-Grade-Comic-Lot-VF-MT-8-Duplication-/302217252682?hash=item465d8d4f4a:g:K2kAAOSwt5hYjPV0

  13. I use comicbase solely for selling books on atomicavenue. It's a little pain in the butt. But certainly easier than listing on eBay. I have the latest version and it is a little clumsy at times (pushing inventory to atomicavenue requires a couple of tries sometimes) but overall I haven't lost any data (yet!) I do backup constantly and in 2 machines. So not sure if it makes a difference as I'm relatively new to this. I had an issue at the beginning where I marked "one" under minimum quantity and it didn't push the book to atomicavenue bcs of that (told u I was new to this, right? Lol) so me and the girl at atomicavenue spent a good 20-30 min over the phone till we figured it out anyways, hope they resolve your issue quickly
  14. Nice. I once found a whole box with the entire run (cap America, spidey etc..) EXCLUDING the Archie ones. Maybe that's where they all went ?
  15. I'm a 70s kid but I never liked FF. Not then not now. I liked some of the stories. Dr Doom is by far THE rising star of the title. Probably as ultimate a villain as Darth Vader is in my mind. But the team is very campy and very.. well.. old However, I do agree that FF #1 used to be THE Marvel book to own in the 80s. Even while I wasn't a fan, I could only dream of owning that book back then, not AF15, not X-Men 1. FF 1 was the grail. Certainly doesn't feel that way anymore
  16. Power Pack will most likely be optioned sooner or later. Just like Cloak & Dagger were. Does anyone here has that chart that Marvel listed for characters "in development" for movie/TV shows a few years back? They had power pack & cloak & dagger on it. Not sure if new mutants were there as well
  17. OK so Preacher is on the rebound again. After flirting with being a 400.00 book #1 9.8 is climbing up again. Latest sales as high as 625.00 Theres also been a lot of movement on the series in general, not just #1
  18. I heard there are only 3 on the census!!
