I feel like a replacement will always come along. Even for eBay. It’s probably already here, just hasn’t reconfigured itself to take over the market. Facebook was around for years before it replaced MySpace as the popular social network. Ending the requirement for a college email coinciding with MySpace selling off and it’s new owners changing everything for the negative and the game is set. eBay is a major site but not too big to lose to something new
You mean, we don’t know it’s amazon yet?

Seriously, do you suppose the colorist did this on purpose as a prank. Notice that it's a slightly different "flesh color" than the guy's face. That means he thought about it and actually PICKED that color.
Just came across this, in “Comics Interview #59” there’s an interview with Linda Stanley of Sleepeck Printing, the company used to print Fantagraphics Amazing Heroes at the time among other indie publishers... In the interview they bring the Jack Kirby cover as a “Printer nightmare” but do not discuss the obvious color issue. More of a cropping matter. That suggests to me that there was probably a complaint about that in the past

Spider man 1 1990 is a timeless book. Timeless. It’s value-less raw, and even when in grade.
But add a Stan Lee sig to it and it’s a $350 book. Add a Todd sig to it and it’s $250 (again, in grade).
I’m sure that after this signing event there will be a mini recession for this book because I foresee a flood in the market. But that will change within a short year and rebound.
for longevity and appreciation values, stick to any version of the mcspidey 1. I’m probably gonna go with 10 copies myself.side note, I discovered a cool book a couple of years ago “Amazing heroes interviews” #2 which features a cover photo of Mcfarlane from that era.
I bought a few copies and waited for a signing. But then I discovered that all my copies (purchased from different vendors) have rusty staples.
there are currently 3 copies on the census, all 3 are graded 8.0 and one of which is offered on the bay.
the graders notes says on all 3 existing copies “rusty centerfold staples”.
So I guess I’m not submitting those.
a shame, cause they’re all very nice copies and I guess we’ll never see a 9.8 copy of that book- ADAMANTIUM and Shawngk

I bought the softcover ed when it came out. Remembering how painful it was that I couldn’t afford the hd edition (bcs I think a month or two prior I bought the Cadillacs & dinosaurs limited signed ed from them) Absolutely love that book. The Frazetta section (although tiny) is amazing.

This is, essentially, the Donut Business Model.
Convert $1000 into $5000. Rinse repeat.
Absolutely agree. if you have the time and efforts, turn $200 to $1000, but if you dont, turn $1000 to $1200
Nothing wrong with both strategies, but depending on your aspirations

Having under 10 copies on the CGC census just means people dont give acrap about slabbing it. Doesnt mean the book is a ghost.
Actually that’s the textbook definition of a ghost. Means that book is so scary no one wants to own one

Nice score. Serious question. How do you know when, for instance, a 9.4 that lays flat with sharp corners could get a 9.8 with a press? When the difference between making and losing money on slabbing is whether it comes back a 9.4 or 9.6 it’s a vexing question. As far as the results of my purchase. Some valuable books that deserve slabbing and thousands that are worthy of slabbing if I could guarantee 9.6 or better. The condition is excellent and the scope of the collection is broad. The OO was no kid when he was buying books. Tons of high grade magazines, hardcover first editions. Of note are the large amount of newsstand books including a spawn run to well into the 100’s. Still going through it but lots of fun.
Nice looking books, sounds like quite a score with a nice variety of books, well done sir
As far as the press issue is concerned, I only press books that are not flat or have a little bit of a curl to them, I am not a pro by any means but I think thats when it counts the most.
With moderns I set up a pre-screen to 9.8 if it comes back rejected I list it as NM raw and call it a day, theres your $5 loss.
Those ASM 225s were friggin mint, seriously, some of the pages were stuck as these copies were never read. Flat and sharp, if youd see them youd know these are 9.8s. Some other books are questionable at which point I give them a quick press.
What if? What if Disney Purchased eBay?
