  1. He will be at the East Coast Comicon Sorry, I'm struggling to get an update done before another show comes and goes... RICH HENN was taking submissions for this show. I believe Celestial Comics will also be there taking submissions.
  2. So people should accept abominations like BATMAN & ROBIN, GREEN LANTERN, IRON MAN 2 and THOR 2 for the sake of the comic book movie's longevity in Hollywood? Screw that. Comic book movie or not, if a film is , I will call it out. Same goes for my hate for the idiocy of BATMAN V SUPERMAN. I've already stated why I don't like this film and refuse to try to convince people who loved the Kool Aid why they should view it my way. That way leads to madness and time wasting.
  3. Honestly, I thought the movie was aight, and generally worth watching if you're a comic fan. But a lot of people don't want more more of the same That's my point. This film shouldn't have been just "aight". You can get aight in the theater any day of the week. This starred the biggest two characters in the DC stable and they just couldn't get the story straight. I know I shouldn't be surprised considering DC's history with films but I still can't help feeling confounded by the whole mess. Meanwhile, where their films fail the TV Shows flourish. Go figure.
  4. If you like the film, fine. Just don't tell me it's great because it sure as h-e-l-l isn't. I didn't want to hate this film but couldn't help feeling like I flushed money down the toilet. It was just so idiotic from beginning to end. I say this as a fan of comics in general as well as movies but I respect great storytelling more. I feel we as fans deserve more than a few CGIed scenes slapped together just to call it a good "movie". I can forgive a few lapses of judgement in a film but when they are as monumental and plentiful as they are in BATMAN V SUPERMAN, it needs to be pointed out and be heard so they can avoid making another turd. We deserve better than this and WB / DC doesn't respect us enough to give it to us. The idea the peeps at WB / DC keep spouting about comic fans loving this film is a complete lie because not all fans are alike and our tastes vary. I believe the big drop in box office sales has to do with Word of Mouth which has a better chance of destroying a movie's longevity and success more than all the critics put together. VOX does a wonderful job breaking down why this film is as bad as it is-- http://www.vox.com/2016/3/26/11308944/batman-v-superman-dawn-of-justice-review-spoilers-nonsense http://www.vox.com/2016/3/29/11322002/batman-v-superman-dawn-of-justice-flaw-spoiler They also list recommendations to get the bad taste out of your mouth -- http://www.vox.com/2016/3/28/11319086/batman-vs-superman-dawn-of-justice-streaming-animated
  5. Seems like J Scott has a new variant cover for Midtown Comics coming out for CIVIL WAR II #1 http://www.midtowncomics.com/store/dp.asp?PRID=1532606&utm_source=Midtown+Comics+Newsletter&utm_campaign=2afdd6630b-PreOrder_201604&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_81354e559b-2afdd6630b-63598753&mc_cid=2afdd6630b&mc_eid=01ab4b4012
  6. I had the same look on my face (similar to Superman) after watching BATMAN V SUPERMAN. What a mess of a movie. They say people don't intentionally make a bad movie but I can't help feeling otherwise when I got out of the theater. ***SPOILERS!!!!*** The movie was long by an hour. The constant god vs man allusions were beyond annoying. Do we really need to see Batman's origin again? The only reason Batman doesn't hand Superman his death sentence is because their moms share the same first name? The JLA cameos where more like YouTube videos. The dream sequences were absurd. The best scenes were in the trailers. Storylines from DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and DEATH OF SUPERMAN are fit awkwardly together. The Senate hearing was nonsensical. The legless man is angry at Bruce Wayne because...? Batman was awesome although he was more Punisher than Batman. Wonder Woman's overextended cameo was nice but the reasoning for her being in the film was over a photo that she couldn't access but Batman could? Alfred was cool. Luthor was GOTHAM / BATMAN & ROBIN overacted by Zuckerberg. Lois Lane was boring and was literally a simple plot tool. Superman? Well, Superman continues to look annoyed that he has to save people. You'd think he was made to "save the day" by being threatened from afar with a kryptonite bullet from a sniper. Emo Supes should just slit his wrists and call it a day. This was aimed more at a Transformers / TMNT film going crowd. And I, proudly, am neither. He was mad at Superman cause he was the one who made the building crumble that made the I beam fall on him that made him lose his legs.

  17. Glad I didn't fall for the $600 Frank Miller trap -- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Frank-MILLER-Autograph-4x-Dark-Knight-III-Master-Race-1-DK3-CGC-SS-9-8-KUBERT-/301875499969?
  18. Not taking shots at Hellboy, but have you ever checked the sales? They aren't outstanding. And there it is. So the alternative to low sales is to create a false impression of collectibility, so that more people BUY it - not to read and enjoy but to get a sense of excitement, that they have something, that may be WORTH something - when in reality, they own something, they don't even really want, and that won't be worth anything more to someone who didn't really want it in the first place? And that is the mentality that has nearly destroyed this hobby. - Thank you. The "fans" are as much to blame as the publishers. If you don't buy it, they won't make it. The issue is that there are some who are completists who will collect a title simply because they love a character -- no matter the creative team, the storyline or art. I never understood that mentality of collecting and refuse to give my hard-earned money to . I love Batman, doesn't mean I'm going to collect anything and everything he's involved in -- directly or indirectly. The pricing of books is a turn off to me so I'm much more selective about what I get. I don't buy #1 issues immediately anymore because the novelty has worn off on me and nothing really changes. I like many variant covers publishers produce but that's not the reason I buy books. For that, I can just buy a print, frame it and admire it on my wall. When I see people plunking down serious money for supposed rare modern variant issues, I can't help but think that cash could've gone to a real Key Issue, First Appearance, First Team-up, First work most associated with a creator -- actual collectibles not falsified ones. But that's just me.
  19. The guy is right on the money regarding what's currently happening in the business today. IMAGE rarely goes multicover and usually that's in the pivotal issues of WALKING DEAD (#100 and #150 being examples). IMAGE and DARK HORSE don't depend upon the gimmick variant covers like MARVEL, DC, DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT, ZENESCOPE and AVATAR do. This, coupled with the ever increasing prices of issues, the rehashed storylines, constant reboots, deaths/rebirths/returns and new #1s create this bubble that will eventually burst. One title that provides a prime example of what the BIG TWO and other publishers can do is the HELLBOY model of publishing. The beauty of HELLBOY is that, for the most part, the title has always been a series of mini-series. There isn't this constant need to put out product, month in / month out to meet the demand. The demand will always be there. There are breaks between series storylines which allow artists and writers to fully realize the world without any kind of economic, publisher or fan pressures thereby maintaining the quality of work the fans have comes to enjoy. And I say all this as a person who is not the biggest fan of the title but I can certainly respect what they do and how they do it.
  20. Really? I thought it added to it considering he created Daredevil. I don't like when Stan Lee's sig are on books he had absolutely nothing to do with, prime example being NEW MUTANTS #98. People, for some reason, like his sig on that book more than they do Rob Liefeld or Fabian Nicieza. Go Figure.
  21. Personally, I prefer the art and storytelling of a younger Frank Miller than what I currently see from the man. Other than SIN CITY, I don't like anything else he has done. The rough art fits the world of his crime series but looks awkward anywhere else.
  22. Seems like a few of the recent signature series Frank Miller books are coming down somewhat -- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Batman-Dark-Knight-3-III-The-Master-Race-1-SIGNED-Sketch-Frank-Miller-CGC-9-8-/371554580915?hash=item568260f9b3%3Ag%3Arm8AAOSwKtlWtBZq&nma=true&si=OpnhmyLnUJYCzr4ImNoKmqgkJTk%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Batman-Dark-Knight-III-CGC-9-8-Midtown-Variant-Signed-Frank-Miller-and-more-/182016630561?hash=item2a61095f21:g:na4AAOSwKtVWt~NX http://www.ebay.com/itm/RONIN-1-CGC-9-8-SS-FRANK-MILLER-top-graded-s-s-copy-1st-ever-to-market-NM-M-/381539465714?hash=item58d58639f2:g:MvgAAOSwpzdWtWph http://www.ebay.com/itm/Batman-The-Dark-Knight-Returns-1-1st-Printing-CGC-9-4-SS-Signed-Frank-Miller-/262280911657?hash=item3d11291b29:g:3xMAAOSwB4NWuAqP Someone picked this up and I totally missed this one. 23. Lately Neal Adams is hit and miss art-wise but, in this case, it's a hit. Great piece! Congrats!
  24. I haven't bought original art pages in a long time and I wanted to rectify that in 2016. Posted two pages I bought earlier in January from THE ARTISTS CHOICE during his annual Christmas sale. Thought I'd share some pieces I got in the mail this February -- 1. SPIDEY #1 sketch layouts by NICK BRADSHAW: Won this in an auction and am happy to say it was pretty inexpensive. Bradshaw is an amazing artist who puts great detail to his work. He also happens to be a really nice, down to earth guy. Art is on 8 x 11 paper. He took two, blank Marvel Pages and shrunk them on the photocopier machine so that he can print these pages out. He uses them to roughly layout the pages of an issue before he really draws the heck out a page. He was kind enough to sign the page for me as well. 2. HITMAN #5, Pages 20 & 21 - Original Artwork: Bought these at a BUY-1-GET-1-FREE sale that is currently good for the month of February on all of John McCrea's pages. I've loved HITMAN since I picked it up out of curiousity so many years ago. Always wanted to get pages from this title that wasn't out of my price range and am happy to say that I've accomplished just that. The beauty of this set is not only the fact that it is sequential but it also included rough layout McCrea did before creating the final product. Now all I have to do is get Garth Ennis and John McCrea to sign my pages.
